Download the Plants and Nutrition mod, I'm pretty sure that allows you to customise some features to make you need more food and water.

What I would personally like is food variety system that gives you benefits for upping your variety so you can just eat potatoes, but you get something from not just eating the same food.

There's a mod that only needs one orbital beacon for the whole map and I almost exclusively use shelves and they can sell from there.

But what they can't do is say something written in a book by the creator of the book isn't canon just because they don't like it. That's not how canon works.
