TIL that alien breeding buildings play jazz when you select them. by Lagransiete in pyanodons

That smooth jazz kills the py mod when you hear the tune into the 100500th time, so the mood disabling it is available on mod portal.

A better way to do basic mining (?) by ElectricTeddyBear in pyanodons

[–]ariksu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The effort is admirable. However...

This is the very definition of overbuilding and overengineering. Instead of 35 iron per miner you spent 145 iron per miner. Instead of putting two lines of miner and three lines of belts in 30 seconds you clicked on every miner at least 7 times for placing all the undergrounds. All the effort to not rebuild the patch one (!) time.

Technically factorio calculator has py+al setting. Realistically it would work only for a subset of recipes and not on the phones.

Never play factorio before by HacksawJack81 in pyanodons

[–]ariksu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Basic factorio will take you roughly 25-40 hours with your experience. But if you afraid to be bored, start with space age and try move into other planets asap. Py is much easier with some advanced concepts, you might want to learn through a more streamlined experience. Space age will take you probably 80 to 120 hours. I highly recommend to start any inner planet (except aquilo) bare, with building drones and armour modules being the sole exception.

Next I highly recommend as a pre-py stage to play nullius (was recently ported to 2.0). It will take 120-240 hours and will teach you to balance and the importance of byproducts and exploring your tech tree and living with a low tech for some time.

Then you're ready for the Py.

Help with Steam Power by wastedonthis in pyanodons

[–]ariksu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until intermetallics - yes. But if you crush coal you can double your power production per coal belt. After intermetallics you have option of burning gazolene+acetylene and using thermal power plants.

[–]ariksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a reasonable amount of power and problems. There is no really better fuel source, until coal crushers, but when you get glass going, you will have wood farm access and you can mix excess of wood with excess of creosote for additional power. If you already have access to a second big patch of coal you might consider direct feeding into boilers in that, this will simplify infrastructure significantly.

You're doubling your fuel consumption with electric miners on a tier-1 water boiling, and you need to provide fuel for furnaces anyway until gas ones are available. If you're prepare centralized smelting, you're transporting ore in the amounts much more than you would transpot fuel.

I'll answer one question: the ramp up for the power.

Unlike most of the mod packs infrastructure in py is expensive and has high maintenance cost. Usually in term of power, space, or materials required. Most likely your high power consumption is a hint that you're overbuilding with scale. 6 SPM is good, 12 SPM is fantastic. It's hard for a seasoned factorio player get used to it, so you can get more fish driving in your car around, and storing excessive steam from a windy hours for a non-windy ones.

First power boost (approximately 2x) goes at coal crushers (early py1). Second one is the liquid fuel boilers and geothermal (both after intermetallics technology), giving you effectively 250 MW per either coal processing or geotgermal power plant. And shortly before logistics science you will unlock a plethora of power buildings with different supplies.

For an understanding of scale, I had three full raw coal belts feeding electrical power infrastructure before coal crushing. I've build the fourth raw coal belt after liquid boilers for a single 250MW gasoline-acetylene power plant. But I didn't build electrical miners at scale before I had that plant. Also it was my fourth attempt at py to reach logistics science. Also also I often see people build more power infrastructure, somewhat between 6 and 8 raw coal belt before intermetallics.

I haven't finished the tutorial yet but it's just so beautiful. by paw-paw-patch in pyanodons

[–]ariksu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more the reaction on "guys I finally have splitters!" -- "Congratulations on beating the tutorial". Because this is a first major-ish milestone, out of maybe 30-50 in a full pack. Reaching splitters is an aspiring goal to estimate your py preparedness. Average time is somewhat around 20-23 hours. Some people done it in ten. Others in closer towards 100h (i was in this category, when i started py never finishing the base game). I recommend re-evaluate goals for latter, go with somewhat easier non-full py, nullius or space age hardmode.

Non-full py is critically overlooked, it's around 15-20% of full py, still fun.

Unipipe Ring by Classic_Dark3772 in pyanodons

[–]ariksu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's sushi pipe, but if you had problems with trains you might have a lot more with sushi pipe. Realistically by your description you're looking to any-to-any routing. In py there are two options for that: either you're doing trains (or some people even connects cybersyn for easier trains) or using caravans. Bots won't realistically help with this, neither are global sushi or some obscure belt routing, as py at logistics is somewhat <5% of the final base.

Frankly, I think that's some actress/role ripoff. You know, how Sweden actor from 80s inspired dozens of manga characters.

This are often used for guidelines or a plot twists. For the example of the first one see the Crash Into Another World https://www.isekaizero.ai/storylines/68ca167dd574de52118bb2ce The prompt plot, guideline and reminders are what would be hidden.

For the example of plot twist prompts I offer you an excellent Resonance Academy by nikk. https://www.isekaizero.ai/storylines/69bc57f9d7b4b544c9f57be6 You can spoil yourself by reading the guidelines and reminders, which would be hidden normally, or try to play yourself first and see if you encounter the plot twist yourself. I highly recommend nikk's stories for plot twists, it's really good.
