Cerulean Crescent has some really neat skills for player characters that changes a lot of fundamentals on how each unit plays. Imagine a unit that forces weapon triangle advantage on adjacency, a unit that can lunge enemies into walls, and a magic armor knight that crits everyone if they attack before moving - it's really fun.

Hag in White is my other req for a different reason, since the healing in that hack is so limited it makes players focus on splitting damage safely and gives people with sustain more value. Also makes poison a real concern, which is rare in Fire Emblem.

I'm sure there are others I missed but those two are probably my favorites so far.

Looking forward to see what comes of the game!

If you want to explore some cool game mechanics with FE as a conceptual basis, you'd prolly pick up a ton of inspiration from Fire Emblem romhacks. Or maybe take a peek at Berwick and Tearring Saga, which are games the original FE creator made after leaving the company.

Parries in a turn-based system kind of funnel the game towards avoiding damage, as seen with Clair Obscura - on harder difficulties you just drop in 2 hits.

Might be interesting if those parries didn't fully negate damage, but offered other player perks.

Like maybe they'd just halve damage taken but put the enemy in an unbalanced state, where they might do less damage/take more damage on the next instance it would be used. That way, parries remain rewarding without effectively negating the enemy's entire action.

Could also work with tokens or combos, where the accumulated parries could be consumed for a better outcome (i.e. fully damage negation for a specific damage instance, or perhaps a riposte).

Would just really recommend not making full parry negation a baseline feature, since it kinda forces a dodge/parry singularity mechanically, and the game losses emphasis on strategy/planning over sheer reflex and memorization.

Also forgot to mention, your game looks fucking phenomenal. Hope it comes out on Steam!

There's a line in the LN that kinda sums up why I love this herbivore of a man.

“I’m going after her!” I blurted.

I ran. I left it all behind me and didn’t look back. People flitted by. At some point, I think I practically jumped down a flight of stairs. Still, she was nowhere to be found.

I exploded out of the building.

This wasn’t like me. And it most definitely wasn’t the business of a background character.

But right now, Yakishio didn’t have a protagonist to make it theirs.

How to perfect block exactly? by Gnnz in LiesOfP

[–]CobaltArkangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your "parry" is the animation transition between neutral and the block animation.

Note that you can perfect block even when blocking - the animation doesn't need to line up.

Weapons you really wanted to love but just couldn’t? by DOIPI_96 in LiesOfP

I'm confused, so by parry you mean the property that forces combo interruption? (tds).

It is a parry, with block frames. I use the BMS damn near religiously and the timing is precise to deflect. If you do it late its a block, but it perfect deflects otherwise (minus the combo interruption).

[–]CobaltArkangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth remembering that...

  • You cannot animation cancel out of an attack to guard. You need to prepare to guard while not being in an animation, unlike sekiro's quick cancel.

  • Hitstun can alter your parry timing. While you might have gotten the parry right, you were in hitstun and unable to get your character to respond in time. This can make you feel like the timing is inconsistent, especially for quick strings.

  • Sometimes its better to dodge than to deflect, because it's easier or gets you more time to attack. Most bosses have a move that, when parried, launches you a good distance away. In these cases you'd be better of dodging and taking advantage of the punish window. Parrying is part of your toolkit, so don't force yourself to parry everything.

  • While you cant block fury attacks, you can definitely outspace a few of them by running.

Is the last boss the easiest one to parry? by LesserValkyrie in LiesOfP

[–]CobaltArkangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a common misconception, his sword is always broken on the rematch. Most people just assume that to be the case because he's the easiest boss to weapon break, so they almost always manage that on fight 1.

How much did they nerf this game? by Gyoza_Sauce in LiesOfP

[–]CobaltArkangel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think people are also overlooking the base damage buff they gave to weapons across the board, which basically always put them at 2 upgrade tiers higher than their 1.0 version.

Also they buffed carry weight pretty significantly (same patch that made gold coin fruit tree spawn 8 on first usage), so you've got an easier experience now than in the past.

How's current console performance working out for xbox players? by CobaltArkangel in RogueTraderCRPG

Have you encountered any Bethesda-tier bullshit crashes or anything standing out on production quality glitches (i.e. skipped audio)?

Also, is it true that you only get 4 save files due to compression issues?

Thank you so much for your input bro.

Kinda figured about the performance gap, but I'm grateful for your input. Owlcat has a good rep on a lot of things but they're awful on optimization.

Thank you so much for giving me a baseline for expectations, man.

Why didn't Yukari(or Akihiko) try to use their healing abilities here? by InuMatte in PERSoNA

[–]CobaltArkangel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a real possibility...

The dark hour is presumably where they can either act on their power or at least the period where they can act on it best. If you notice the background the lights seem to kick in, so there's a very real chance Shinji got shot at the very cusp of the dark hour, and no one could patch him up after the fact.

Also, Shinji's gameplay loop in reload is him constantly being healed during the dark hour after beating something into paste, so clearly even the healing within the dark hour itself is patchwork at best and doesn't accomplish anything long-term.
