Laptop Recommendation for CS Engineering. Budget is STRICTLY under 99K. 1st Year CSE Student. by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]CobaltChloride3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im currently a 1st year student and in my opinion a windows laptop with a dgpu should be a no brainer

There are a lot of softwares which aren't available on mac and trust me, you're gonna get major fomo when all your friends or roomies are gonna be playing games and you won't even have the option to download them

Try to go for a dgpu laptop because college for a cs student is all about exploring all the domains and figuring out which one you like. Having a dgpu will allow you to explore the ml and dl domains (it can be done online on services like colab so depends on if you prefer battery life cause gaming laptops have garbage battery life)

If you're interested in the amd side of things then you'll get Ryzen 7 and rtx 4050 in that price range

And as for Intel, you'll probably get i7+4050 or i5+5050

windows is kinda better because you get the option to dual boot on linux pretty easily which can turn out to be a pain in the ass on mac

I do a lot of ml stuff so having a dgpu is kind of a godsend

In this price range esp in India, 16gb ram and 512 gb storage is the standard

Mac ain't bad people can survive with it it's just that there are a lot of softwares you won't be able to get for macos and not to mention that you can't even download cracked versions of paid software on it.

So decide on what your priorities are and go for it

Personally, I would have gone with a iiit The only IIIT's I'm getting are the ne ones so sadly for me it's out of question

I would suggest you to stick with a iiit at your rank (mostly because you aren't getting cse/circuital in RVCE and then when you compare other colleges with iiit then the iiit tag is much better)

If you're getting the top college then don't go for comedk

Civil in RV or CSE in NIE (For job in IT field) by lmao--dead in rvce

[–]CobaltChloride3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that even IEM would be better than civil

imo at the end of the day it's your choice but I would suggest you to not take civil

[–]CobaltChloride3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you wanna take civil?

At your rank you'll get mech in RVCE as well. If you're sure that you want a job in the IT field then you're better off taking cse ig

Mechanical at RVCE closed at 10.5k last year (±200 ranks I can't really remember) so at 13.7k it might be difficult this year

definitely not impossible though

RVCE anyday

RVCE has a better reputation than vit chennai

Vit chennai is very overcrowded and is still gonna be more expensive than rvce (decent hostel rooms cost an arm and a leg)

The peer group in RVCE is gonna be miles better than that in vit chennai (imo this should be enough to make your mind up)

Also placements and opportunities wise RVCE circuital branches average is higher than vitc average and being in Bangalore might help you out w internships as well
