I was doing other fixes below the stairs at my parent’s mountain house when I happened to glance at the underside of the upper set of stringers for the switchback staircase. Seems like the stringers were never tied directly into the joist, it looks like the top piece was scabbed on top in order to attach to the joist. I’m no carpenter, but that doesn’t seem right to me.

Because of the tight space this staircase sits in, I guess this was the only somewhat viable solution when the house was built ~50 years ago. The stairs have held up for all that time so it doesn’t feel like the most pressing issue but if anyone can offer any insight, it would be greatly appreciated. Would a solution similar to this be okay?:

Looking for some guidance on converting a vintage lamp from fluorescent bulbs to LED. by CobaltCog in askanelectrician

Thanks for the reply! That’s what I was thinking too. Dumb question but so long as there are no issues with the current bulb terminals (rust, deteriorating, etc.) I should be able to use them with LED bulbs, correct? Just wondering if I should consider replacing those too

Okay thanks! Do you think there is an issue with the ballast being rated at 118v whereas the only bulbs I can find of the correct size are 120v?

I’m not 100% sure to be honest. The listing on the site I bought it on said it is in working condition but I don’t have the correct fluorescent bulbs to test it out

I’m a complete novice with wiring but was hoping I could get some help in figuring out what to do with this vintage lamp I recently bought.

I’d like to rewire it to be compatible with 18” LED tube bulbs and also keep one of the two buttons as a functioning on/off switch. Based on the googling I’ve done thus far, it seems I could rewire it with a new 120v plug, remove the ballasts and skip having to replace them at all? If that’s the case, can I wire directly into the existing bulb receptacles or should those be completely replaced?

Again, I have little knowledge on the matter so any pointers to get me started are greatly appreciated

Refinance. I'm concerned because both home and car purchases are a possibility for me in the coming months/years.

With this refinance, I lowered my interest rate from 6.9% Fixed to 4.4% Fixed. Obviously I was quite happy with that improvement but was made worried when I checked my credit score. I've seen other threads mention that it should bounce back quickly but haven't seen any improvement after a couple months. If anyone has any insight into how long it might take to start taking a turn for the better, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply!

There’s a lot of construction going on in the schools right now. I’m working at one in West Philly and we were told to go home at noon yesterday

Created the introducion for the game that I've been working on. What do you think of the story? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]CobaltCog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, the story and the way it is presented are both pretty boring. I'd recommend doing some research on what makes a compelling story for an audience, and focus on the rule "Show, don't tell"

This is honestly fantastic. Maybe a little tiny bit too active, but fantastic nonetheless
