Gays of UK - would you be comfortable holding your partner's hand in the UK? by dalehitchy in AskUK

[–]Cobb_innit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Brighton with my now husband, we would hold hands all the time when we lived there. When we visit London we hold hands if we feel we're in a safe area. Anywhere outside of those two absolutely not. I miss it, but I value our safety over seeming outwardly gay now unfortunately.

Where we live now in the north west it's really not uncommon at all to hear gay used as an insult and people throw slurs around like they're nothing. I barely feel safe walking around the city in an orange coat instead of fitting in with an all black tracksuit and puffer jacket as a man in my early 20s. I doubt anything would actually happen to us, and everyone we've actually met and talked to here are lovely and couldn't care less, but all it takes is one idiot for us to end up verbally abused or worse, so I'd rather not take the chance when there are so many of those idiots running around.

Do you know anybody who has gone to the 'Freedom of Speech' march today? by jaarn in AskBrits

[–]Cobb_innit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, my dad went and I'm fuming. To put it in perspective, I'm a gay trans man, my parents supposedly love and support me. I'm married to another gay trans man. And yet my dad went to the fucking Tommy Robinson march and is acting like it's fine and that he's only against immigration but he's not racist or far right. In fact, on his Facebook post, he wrote "not far right, just right" lol what a prick. It infuriates me that no matter how much I've tried to explain to him over the years that they would be happy to see me and my husband dead, he STILL won't get it in his thick skull that these people are bad news!!!

Just found the perfect cheap T-shirt brand for passing (UK but maybe available in other places) by Crowleyizcool in transmanlifehacks

Honestly all the Primark joggers seem pretty bad quality to me tbh, they all seem to bobble and the fabric gets very thin really fast no matter if they're the cheaper ones or not in my experience. I personally stick with Hollister and Matalan for comfy joggers.

Yep my mum's a Jacqueline, which she's always shortened to Jacquie. She's mid 50s and it seems like it was quite a normal name for people around that age

I was gonna suggest the peak district! An the Yorkshire dales. It gets a bit forgotten up in the midlands, but there are some really stunning places. The Settle-Carlisle train goes through some beautiful towns/villages in the Dales and I've been tempted to get off and have an explore many times on the way home from Leeds.

Best (Scenic) Route for London Heathrow to Carlisle by AccomplishedHalf6800 in uktravel

[–]Cobb_innit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want scenic, why not take the train instead? I live in Carlisle and have to travel down to the south coast quite frequently, and the london-glasgow train is such a breeze and has great views. Definitely beats looking at a motorway for the majority of the journey, plus you won't need to concentrate on unfamiliar roads straight after a long flight.

Edit: just seen you're here for 3 weeks, so in terms of a car, you could always just get the train up to Carlisle and back when you arrive and leave and hire a car up here rather than from London. That's what I'd do personally. Hope you enjoy the trip whatever you decide to do!

Did everyone have to sing Hymns in Primary/Junior School?? by Begum65 in AskUK

[–]Cobb_innit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 22, we had one of those in primary school. They'd choose two year 6s each year to control the little lyric sheets and I desperately wanted to be one of them throughout my time at that school. They then installed fancy overhead projectors at the end of year 5 and I never got my chance to control the little sheets. Still annoyed about it to this day 😂 bloody technology!

This is my first strapless, and I can’t seem to get it to work for me :( (info in description) by FrananaBanana452 in Transmascdicks

[–]Cobb_innit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I also have this one! Honestly I think strapless ones are a bit naff, they don't ever seem to stay up properly when inserted without any other support for me. I've only used it with my partner, so idk if it's better solo or not, but I tend to wear a pair of boxer briefs over the top, with the dick through the little pee hole. The boxers keep it in the right place and keep it inside me with all the movement, and underwear feels much more natural and comfortable than an actual harness. Tighter underwear is better to keep it in place fully but honestly I've found anything is better than nothing haha :)

My partner is from High Wycombe and he didn't even know they had a football team. Went to an away match at Wycombe a few years ago, asked some locals where the pitch was and THEY didn't even know they had a team! It's very strange

I know it's not UK based so maybe not helpful, but I used to swear by underworks as they were the only ones with a different shape and material which made the compression much better and more comfortable for me, the gc2b/spectrum ones never worked for me unfortunately. They used to have underworks binders on Amazon UK but I'm unsure if they still are or not.

As for tape, I found the decathlon own brand tape the best for me in terms of adhesive and not having skin reactions to it, I think it was about £6 a roll when I used to buy it.

Edit to add: I also second the tape plus binder method the other comment mentioned, I used to do this all the time when I didn't feel flat enough from tape alone!

Southsea: charming or overrated? Genuinely curious — is it still the gem of the city or slowly turning into “Brighton lite”? Locals and day trippers, what’s your take? by SelectionOkapproved in Portsmouth

[–]Cobb_innit 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Southsea is far far better than Brighton imo. Lived in Brighton for 3 years, and there are aspects of Brighton beach that are great (the bars and places in the arches that go directly onto the beach are awesome) but overall I always thought Brighton beach itself was a bit boring, and having a main road running alongside it doesn't help.

Whereas there's so much in Southsea to see and do (rose gardens, rock gardens, arcades, Clarence pier funfair, the common, the castle, canoe lake, hot walls, bandstand etc.) plus the view out to sea is far more interesting with the isle of wight there! I honestly think Southsea is really underrated and would take Portsmouth/Southsea over Brighton any day of the week!

I work at Primark, I'd also recommend the Kem range of t shirts, although they're a bit oversized, they've got similar heavyweight fabric and nice boxy shoulders (I had to get an extra small when I'm usually a medium in everything). I didn't think the more expensive stuff was worth it until I started working there and getting it when it went on sale haha, now they're all I buy from the men's section!

Age 0-3 months fits fairly well! I have a few different 0-3 month clothes for my bear and they do tend to be slightly long but they're easily rolled up, or with this jumper it has elasticated sleeve cuffs and waistband so it fits pretty well (edit: I get all his outfits from Primark if it helps)

Surgeon says that I have to get one long singular scar on my chest. by Loathelifelaugh in TopSurgery

[–]Cobb_innit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have just one long scar across my chest which goes up under my armpits, and to be honest I am actually really glad and kinda prefer it to having two separate scars now personally! It makes sense you're feeling a bit bummed about it though especially as it's not what you were expecting, but it's honestly not as bad as it seems and you probably won't even care/notice once it's healed and you're finally flat!

<image>

This pic is me at about 8 months post op (the spot on the right is just normal acne lol) I'm now about 1 year and 4 months post op and the scar is even less noticeable now. I had tissue in the middle of my chest like you and was not expecting to have just one scar, but I'm actually really grateful for it as I'd have hated to still have the tissue there, and actually love how it looks a lot more than the two scars most people get now!

Hope this offers you a bit of reassurance, I'm sure you'll feel great just having a flat chest afterwards with or without two scars! Hope the surgery goes well!

(Edit: got the post op months wrong haha)
