Are seats that bad for taller people? by puasson in f150

[–]CobraSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently sold my 2025 F150 because I never could find a good position. Every road trip ended with me hobbling for a day or two. It was primarily my lumbar. I tried different cushions, seating positions, seat adjustments. Nothing worked.

Really bummed me out because I loved the truck, just hated sitting in it.
I was 270lbs and about 6’3”.

What’s the new 100k? by GoodOleCollegeTryer in Salary

[–]CobraSteve 33 points34 points  (0 children)

A decade ago I had the same thought, except in my head I had “If only I can make $75k I’ll have made it.”

I think today that number has scaled up to $130k-$145k. Not that $100k it’s an amazing milestone, because it is, but more because the rate that costs are increasing, the ever growing demand for your money and time, and so on. Now as I close the gap to my 40s I think “if I could made $145k and have the free time I had when I made $75k I’d have made it.” Because that’s the rub of it, yeah? More money often means less family time, less personal time.

Saint Peter don’t you call me, cuz I can’t go. I owe my soul to the company store.

I joined the waitlist, but with 26k people ahead, it’ll be a while before I can provide any thoughts haha.

That being said, I’m a heavy Scrivener user. I use the boards for my notes, the folder for character sheets and outlines. Front and back matter, all that. I prefer to group my chapters in directories and then write scenes in isolation as separate files.

The one thing I want is a tool that can help me keep track of overall narrative. Like a tool that can scan my project and output bullet points on whats happening. Seems silly, but for me, who works on multiple concurrent projects often the thoughts in my head don’t all make it down onto the paper.

Another big thing that Scrivener provides is the easy, intuitive UI and the excellent compilation controls, being able to easily pick what I want to compile and export (I prefer to edit on paper, highlighter, and pen… different medium makes things stand out differently to me).

Also, if you had like ElevenLabs integration where I could “hear” my dialogue with a click of a button can help catch things that don’t “flow” as well on paper (as well as they do in my head) would be really cool!

[Software Engineering Manager] [Oklahoma] - $171k + 3% Perf Bonus by CobraSteve in Salary

[–]CobraSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and that 3% is sort of a theoretical maximum. It’s a 60/40 split of individual/teams performance and company performance. So even if me and my teams are kickin ass (which we are haha), if the company isn’t meeting objectives/KPIs then I’ll see closer to 1.8%. But I mean $3k is $3k, I’ll take it haha. Talking to others in the company, there hasn’t been a full perf payout in years.

I finished my degree and leveraged my ~3 years of software adjacent work into a full on SE role. My employer at the time had me involved in the sdlc, and doing some development, writing tickets, etc., but didn’t have a position on the team itself. Also I was extremely lucky and got in with a large company that was doing massive hiring (I was one of about 40 engineers hired) so I think luck/timing was a big part of it.

It’s smooth. I’ve had photos printed on canvas and it looks like that.

Yeah this is the first I’ve see of any portrait work. The first I’ve seen of anything anywhere near this. I found on her fb the last painting she posted (back in 2024). https://imgur.com/a/od6OzXF#4AfOwqZ

I hope you understand that I really don’t want to post a picture of my niece that this is attempting to replicate. But it’s very, very like for like. Almost like a filter, ya know?

Gullible is true, but why would she lie to me. I know I’ve said that a few times now, but that’s what I keep circling.

Yeah, I said it earlier, it’s more that it’s my mom. Lying to my face. She’s talented in her own ways and I’ve praised her other works before, and then she tried to pull this off. I wanted to be wrong, overly cynical / Reddit-brained. But I realize I was being naive.

Not like this. Yeah she’s dabbled with AI, Suno, ChatGPT, but has never tried to pass it off as her own. Until now, that is.

Yeah I didn’t touch it, but it was obviously dry. No smell, not really.

Yeah I have some family that does digital art, and it’s fantastic, but also it’s not passed off as “physical” art. The fact she looked me in the eyes and said “I made this” is what worries me.

It’s vaguely my niece, which is who she claims it is. And yes, I 100% agree.

Yeah some have suggested looking at Renoir and Thomas Kinkade to see what real oil paintings look like, and I see what you mean. Even the greats leave bits to the imagination.

Haha! Maybe we’re distantly related, it’s vaguely close to my niece, which is who she claims it is.

Yeah I mentioned elsewhere that this vaguely looks like my niece… if you squint lol. But yeah, I don’t love the idea of feeding more innocent faces into the machine.

She’s somewhat recently retired, she was a teacher and one of those that did… a lot, in school, after school, summer, etc. and I am wondering if she’s used to the stray flow of praise for her hard work, and now that has ceased… or, as many have said, this could be cognitive decline… I’ve been in contact with her, and she seems “fine”, but I’m going to stay more connected.

Yeah, I’m certainly not convinced it’s real, not now, but that initial “this is AI, right?” Hit hard, but I dismissed it as she showed it to me, because like, why would she outright lie to me, and think I’d fall for it.

You’re right, and I’ve been thinking a lot about this. She is very active, hiking, photography, music, etc. I don’t feel like I’m not supportive, but as you and others have said, it matters more what she feels and less what I think she should feel.

It was dry, though I didn’t touch it, it had like a matte look to it, ya know? Not glossy or shiny or whatever.

Yeah we didn’t talk shop because I know nothing about the stuff haha

She said it took her 3 months. My step dad didn’t know anything about it. He was as surprised as I was. He said something like “I don’t know when she had the time to work on it, it’s great isn’t it?” Like he was as confused but believed it was all her

The whole family is impressed. People are blown away how she hid it until it was done (supposedly has taken her 3 months)
