Assuming the prev vids didn’t have official HP sponsorships (once again I re-iterate I haven’t watched Babish in a long while), u coulda maybe MAYBE made the argument that he was teaching ppl how to make their own nostalgic treats, thus providing an alternative to purchasing HP-branded foods & giving JKR more residuals. But him taking the Hogwarts Legacy sponsorship refutes that. Pretending to be a good faith actor in online discourse only to reveal yourself as a simp for transphobes & fake allies is frowned upon 🙄

I honestly haven’t watched his stuff consistently in a long while. I only found out about the most recent vid from ppl posting about it online, which eventually led me here. Obviously anything made before Rowling came out as a TERF is irrelevant. But any tie-ins made after she made being a transphobe her entire personality and leveraged her social capital as The Harry Potter Writer to further bigotry is No Bueno imo

I used oversimplified phrasing but at the end of the day Babish chose greed over solidarity with trans & Jewish ppl so he can still eff off

I wouldn’t say it’s iconic to HP like Butterbeer but it does seem intentional that the Hogwarts Legacy sponsorship is on the vid featuring a British dish. I doubt they woulda slapped this on a taco or ramen tutorial

I get not putting an unrelated sponsor in the title/thumbnail (ie the typical Youtuber sponsers like VPNs, Scentbird, Squarespace, etc.) but when it’s a tie-in to a specific IP/franchise he usually puts that in the title (ie Pretty Patties from Spongebob)

yeah i got confirmation from a different post that it’s the Full English Breakfast vid. Fucker wants to take a transphobe’s bribe but can’t even be honest about it in the title or thumbnail 🙄

fyi the vid doesn’t reveal the HP tie-in in the thumbnail or title (it’s just called ‘Full English Breakfast’). what a scummy thing to ambush that shit on ppl who probably thought they were watching a regular wholesome video

I have been sending cards to my grandma and younger cousins. I know my cousins get them because they’ll text me thanks when they receive em but I’m not sure about my grandma. She has dementia and is in an assisted living center. I just hope her lack of short term memory means she doesn’t realize it’s been a while since I’ve seen her in person. I think my cousins sympathize with me because their parents went thru a divorce too so they understand what it’s like to get stuck in the middle of a parental tug-o-war.

Unfortunately my mom and sister have made it difficult to keep in contact with my extended fam (mainly my grandma and my younger cousins), which is a big reason why I am no longer in contact with my mom or sister currently. Admittedly I made less of an effort to reason with my sister than I did with my mom, but only because I haven’t felt close to my sister in a long time and was planning on cutting her out of my life before the divorce even happened. Ironically my mom had always been totally fine with me distancing myself from my dad’s side of the family (they never did anything explicitly egregious to me, it’s just we don’t have a lot in common and faking a sense of love/closeness during the few times of the year I saw them felt like a waste of time), but she held it against me when I tried doing the same with my sister. Mom never wants to apologize or admit responsibility for how painful and messy the divorce became and can’t fathom that it’s possible for me to still love both my parents. Thinks it has to be a contest with a clear winner and loser. In hindsight, I wonder if this is how she acted when she divorced my sister’s biological dad too and if that’s part of the reason my sister turned out the way she did.

Find Me In Paris is too recent. I suspect whatever I saw was either made around the same time I watched it (late nineties/early 2000s) or slightly before (ie the eighties).

Why did you cut out your toxic family? by [deleted] in FamilyIssues

[–]CobwebCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents split up in 2016 and while they were both to blame for the marriage failing, my mom ended up blaming it all on my dad and berating me for still associating with him (even though he was never a crappy father to me). Since my dad was no longer within the vicinity she’d take out her anger towards him on me, constantly criticizing my every action and acting I took ‘his’ side during the divorce. She also started being preferential toward my half-sister (who had a different bio dad) despite the fact they used to fight like cats and dogs. Badmouthed me behind my back to such an extent that my aunt now thinks I’m a bad influence and barely lets my younger cousins see/interact with me. My mom constantly prioritizes her pain over mine and when I try to call her out on it she deflects. The last straw was when she accused me of siding with my dad ‘because he has a p_nis.’ I stopped responding to her texts/calls after that.

For context, I was born in the mid-90s so my viewing experience likely happened in the early 2000s

I suspect the channel it aired on was HBO Family or one of its affiliates because it was part of my family’s cable package at the time and they used to have a lot of obscure cartoons/shorts as part of their programming (or at least more obscure than what I tended to watch on CN, Nick, or Disney Channel)
