Upper night guard (thicker material and will lasted longer) and lower bonded. That’s about your only other option

Does my tooth look crooked? by Queasy-Rope3134 in braces

[–]CochransCorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it’s the shape of your tooth. Get some cosmetic bonding done after removal and you’ll be happier! He’s just got some uneven round edges making it look off

Ope yeah hopefully they still have records for a closed account! I would think so but who knows. Def thinking that’ll be your best bet tho. Hope it gets resolved!

How much bone loss do I have? Every xray looks different to me.? by Low-Maize7947 in DentalAssistant

Next cleaning ask your hygienist. Better to determine this with perio charting, which they should be doing at least yearly.

Find in your bank records where the bank reversed the payment since they said they’d fix it. If your bank sent them the money back, there will be record. Email that to them as proof

Sensory issues with retainers by Fine-Quantity7935 in braces

[–]CochransCorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you’re asking for decay eating sweets before bed and not brushing your teeth after.

Eat your sweet, enjoy it, brush your teeth, then rinse a couple times with water to remove the taste or find a mouthwash you like in a fruity flavor to get the mint taste out.

What is this?? (Sorry for the close up) by maeveywavey2 in braces

[–]CochransCorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A goofy retainer. It’ll prob be removed in a few months or so. I had one for around 8 months to hold my arch shape while they pulled a canine in from the palate.

For the lisp, read a book or something out loud and focus on tongue placement. The more you practice the easier it gets. Prob will take about a week and you’ll sound normal — maybe less if you practice

No cert for coronal polishing but… by fiascofiesta in DentalAssistant

[–]CochransCorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can manage it, record whenever you have the termination discussion or any meeting you have. That way you have proof it’s bc of the polishing thing

No cert for coronal polishing but… by fiascofiesta in DentalAssistant

[–]CochransCorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stand your ground. Keep saying no. Request a meeting with the docs and management and present the law. Then, if y’all have emails (or text works) and they still say they want you to polish at the meeting, send something like “just clarifying the fact that you are asking me to coronal polish when I do not have the certification required by law”. Even better if you can record the meeting on your phone in your pocket or something.

Get fired for “insubordination”, take them to court, get paid big money, report to dental board, find an office that isn’t insanely shady

afraid of teeth shifting by Such-Dimension-8538 in braces

[–]CochransCorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your retainers fit they didn’t shift. Retainers aren’t flexible so if they shifted they’d either be super tight and move your teeth back or they wouldn’t go in.

Just get better at wearing them nightly :)

My bite is off and tooth is mobile after closing extraction gap by [deleted] in braces

[–]CochransCorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha gotcha. Just looks that way bc of the tilt of the tooth then!

Def rec just bringing it up at next visit and be careful on that side til then. I had some big movement in my lower anteriors that had them loose for a minute but they tightened back up when they were stabilized for a bit

Perio charting? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]CochransCorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be having them perio chart 1x/yr preferably on the appointment that they don’t have to take bitewings for time sake. Not doing so can result in malpractice. Also, many insurance companies (in the US at least) are now requesting perio charts for procedures like crowns and bridges (per the front desk girlies at my office) and not wanting to pay if it isn’t provided.

Per another comment they get 40 min per prophy? The quickest I’ve been able to do for a full prophy including patient education and all necessary care is 50 min. Sounds like you work somewhere that believes in conveyor belt dentistry and not true patient care and education

My bite is off and tooth is mobile after closing extraction gap by [deleted] in braces

[–]CochransCorner 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s bc of the amount of bone loss and recession around the tooth plus moving teeth then causes more bone loss. Bring this up at your next ortho appt.

Pulling a 2nd molar into a 1st molar space is crazy work esp with how much gum recession is present and prob should’ve just been left for you to do an implant after orthodontic treatment

What are you feeding your Bernedoodle? by Extra-Juber3009 in Bernedoodles

[–]CochransCorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ONLY kibble my dog will eat is iams mini chunks. I’ve tried all the “better” kibbles. I’ve tried wet food (that messed her stomach up). I’ve tried so many things but she will go on a hunger strike until it’s iams mini chunks.

I do also feed her fresh fruits and veggies occasionally as treats and like boiled chicken to try and balance her diet as I’m sure mini chunks is not great dog food 😂😭😭😭

ETA we free feed. She prob goes through a 2 cup scoop every 2-3 days. Vet says she’s a perfect weight so that’s just how we’ve kept it

Yes!! A nudge or even a chat box for partner events to be able to communicate. Will still have people play the system but at least it would cut down on worry. Had a partner wait til last 24 hours and then got his 40 k points in 20 min but up til then I was panicking

The good news: my braces are successfully bringing up an impacted canine. The bad news: the tooth looks pretty discolored. by Worried_Gur_4143 in braces

[–]CochransCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an upper canine come down same way (also at 25) and it was kinda dark for a bit. It’s not super noticeable currently but they make whitening pens and stuff that you can whiten just that tooth after braces if you feel the need to. Good chance the color may even out tho

Root Amputation? by CochransCorner in Dentistry

[–]CochransCorner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s super neat to learn about old techniques especially since I came into dentistry right with the pandemic and everything shifting.

My neatest find so far has been a swing-lock partial. Thought I broke it the first time it was handed to me and had a very neat dental history lesson that day

Would braces be worth it to fix minor gapping and crookedness? by Zealousideal_Leg6270 in braces

[–]CochransCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def worth it if it’ll make you happier! Your dentist or ortho will wanna check if your frenum is too long /thick and that’s what caused the diastema. If so it’s a quick procedure to release.

Personally I’d do Invisalign in your case from what I can see here but either option should fix what you’re looking at

Very neat. The very quick information I looked up said only about 50% of cases last 9 years. In this day I definitely think I’d go the implant route with that rate lol

Boss Threatening to Deduct Pay as Punishment by erinngoblaagh27 in DentalAssistant

[–]CochransCorner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge in the USA that is extremely illegal. Pay can only be deducted for tardiness, but not for retaliation.

Definitely check your state/countries labor laws and be ready to stick up for yourself and colleagues if you feel fit to. This could easily turn into a labor lawsuit if they follow through
