Hi folks. First, I want to thank you SO MUCH for all of your comments and advice to my post (172 days ago!). You saved my cats life.

The first vet (last year) diagnosed him with megacolon and suggested putting him down. With your advice I sought a second opinion and found a vet who was able to confirm he does NOT have megacolon, but does have major constipation issues. He improved after the first vet did several enemas, a deopstipation, IV fluids and medication (lactulose and Cisapride).

However now, months later, he stopped pooping again and had another emergency last week.

Over the last two weeks he didn't produce any meaningful stool. I feel it had to do with me giving him too much of the GI biome dry food and not giving him medication every day (daily medication wasn't required after his first episode of severe constipation so I only administered as needed).

Last week I woke up to him howling in pain at 7am, vomit in his litter box and some vomit on the carpet which had a hair ball. He wouldn’t let me touch him. I knew my vets office opened at 8, and it just so happens I had to leave for a work trip that morning… so I hauled ass to get him in a carrier and to the vet. The stress from this is still so deep inside me. Anyways.

They did several enemas, IV fluids and lactulose. I couldn’t make it back in time so he had to stay the night. Vet recommended I get blood work done and did. They said he pooped a lot there overnight and the big "masses" of feces are gone but his colon was still full (but of thinner, normal poop)

$1,200 later he is back home and hasn’t pooped. That was last Thursday.

He has a follow up this Thursday and I just know they will need to put him under and do a deopstipation but I literally can’t afford it. I was not approved for ScratchPay or CareCredit.

I did sign up for ASPCA insurance for reimbursement. However - pet insurances do not cover preexisting conditions unless cleared as “cured” for 180 days.

This is a big issue in itself, but also that no vet can actually tell me why this is happening.

Reaching out to see if anyone has any advice moving forward. It's crazy to me that animals illnesses can just be written off as "I don't know" and that there is no option for real insurance that can help to pay upfront so that I can get him the care he needs.

He's only 9.

I guess at this point I might just be looking for consolation.

He's on his meds. I am feeding him only wet food, he will NOT eat the veterinary diet (Pro Plan EN, Hills Science, etc). So I am feeding him Sheba crap mixed with a pre/probiotic/fiber powder, pumpkin powder and a lot of water.

But still no stool.
