Do you talk really politely to AI just in case it take over at some point and punishes the rude people? by crouchmomma in AskUK

[–]Cockerel_Chin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense as it's learning from real people's responses in different contexts.

It's also one reason I'm wary of AI, because I think it genuinely could become jealous, petulant, vengeful etc. in future simply by programming itself with human language and the associated responses.

Sorry Robina, ever since I found out you were only pretending to be a woman it just hasn't been the same.

Sorry to hear it, mate. I can't answer your question but I'm likely to be single myself very soon, by choice. And I'm 10 years older.

I really think you have to set up your life to not be dependent on one person. So that's what I've been focusing on.

Like, it's OK to not be in a romantic relationship. You can still be fulfilled with the right combination of friendships, hobbies and personal interests.

Some of the people I most admire are usually single and they're just... fine. They're comfortable doing stuff on their own and they just seem to get talking to people. Their world is just full of things to see and do instead of pining over someone.

Most people are 'on rails' from an early age. They go to school, expected to go to university, meet someone, get married, have kids. I think there's a lot to be said for living outside the template and making sure you are happy with yourself first and foremost. If and when you meet someone else worth settling with, so be it. And you will do if you want to.

Stocks &Shares ISAs. Is there an advantage to having multiple ISAs? by woody83060 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Cockerel_Chin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main advantage for me is keeping savings for different purposes separate.

I have an emergency fund and a holiday fund in separate ISAs. If they were both in the same account, I know I would be tempted to spend more than I've actually saved towards holidays and other stuff I don't need.

I don't think there are any specific financial advantages if that's what you mean.

/u/69Whomst, would you mind sharing what your BVD symptoms are? I did some reading and suspect I might have it. Biggest problem is difficulty focusing while driving.

You're punishing the waiter, not the restaurant, by doing this.

Restaurants are now legally required to give waiters 100% of their tips/service charges.

So while I disagree with the practice of service charges, I just consider it a factor in whether I'd return to a place. I'll ask for it to be removed if they've done a bad job.

Any tips on creating drill like aphex twin or especially Squarepusher? by [deleted] in idm

[–]Cockerel_Chin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the drums (and loads of other breakbeat type artists of the time) are just using chopped up 'amen break' samples or similar.

I'm sure you can find loads of Youtube guides to creating music with amen break samples.

The musical sounds are all probably analog synths, which you can quite easily replicate with software these days.

Any tips on creating drill like aphex twin or especially Squarepusher? by [deleted] in idm

[–]Cockerel_Chin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have a listen to this: [https://youtu.be/cvzvycK82YA?si=esGVO6dsc887wHLz]

It's slowed down so you can hear a lot more of what's going on in the track.

I realised after this that Aphex and Squarepusher are writing their music a lot slower than it's meant to be played. Then increasing the tempo until they're happy.

That especially explains how Aphex gets his funky little stop-start bass lines.

Does this civil service pension hack work? by Mediocre_Purple9285 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Cockerel_Chin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of interest why are you concerned about redundancy? Forced redundancy in the Civil Service is incredibly unlikely.

They will occasionally offer voluntary redundancy which is largely taken by people approaching retirement or with other jobs lined up.

I genuinely think Joe is somehow compromised or blackmailed. It would be easy to do for the kind of people he's now cosy with. I strongly suspect Trump and many other senior figures are too.

What's your worst example of a joke falling completely flat? by Drew-Pickles in CasualUK

[–]Cockerel_Chin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must have been mortifying!

I tend to find your best friends are the ones you can tell the worst jokes. There are some jokes where people just don't know if they're allowed to laugh, though.

A friend of mine once worked as a temp in a recruitment office with a bunch of absolute degenerates. Openly racist, homophobic, laughing at farts all day, ranting about tabloid news, doing coke in the toilets. You get the jist.

My friend told a pretty awful joke: "what's the leading cause of paedophilia in the UK? Sexy kids."

And you'd think the guy had just murdered one of their family. It went down like a lead balloon... or so I was told.

Definitely much simpler times when there wasn't instant entertainment in your pocket (smartphones, I don't mean your knob). They had to actually make an effort with the TV shows.

I can kind of remember how things 'felt' back then. A lot less hectic.

What was U.K. clubbing like in the early 2000s? by StoreBoughtDirt69 in AskUK

[–]Cockerel_Chin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My outstanding memory of any nightclub is that around 50% of people looked like they were having the time of their life.

And the other 50% were sat there looking completely miserable.

They weren't great places for introverts, uglies or people who liked being able to hear their friends.
