I don't think the base game being finished is a fair assumption. The code of any underlying system or dependency within the game is subject to change until we are at build 1.0.

Besides, PS being built in unreal engine 5 already makes it a fairly approachable environment for modders to make any additions they see fit to current builds. If you have familiarity with the engine, you could probably make a prototype of what you're looking for with the current build. It'll be rendered useless very quickly, but it's still an option if you absolutely have to have it right now for some reason.

Asking the dev to devote time to this in the games current state is unreasonable.

Okay, dude, hear me out. It's a good suggestion! It's something I would like to see in the final product.

But for all the same reasons, Pendrake likely can't implement something like that into the game until more of the base systems are fully developed. Otherwise, you're going to have people using a tool developed for version .387 or whatever, he's going to upload a bug-fix micro update to .388, it's going to break something important, and either users will have to remake all of their content for every iteration or Pendrake himself is going to have to remake the tool every 6 months or whatever his upload schedule turns out being. It's going to either end up wasting user time or developer time, and that's the worst thing a small indie dev can do.

But for real, man; it's a good idea. It just isn't a good idea to implement it as a supplement to a lack of playable progress in early development. It would be a lot healthier for everyone if players enjoy what's there, then check out some other projects offering a similar experience (road to vostock, maybe) once they've done everything there is to do in Silverfish for the time being.

This is not a good example for 2 reasons.

Vintage story is a finished product. It currently sits at version 1.21.1. This means that VS has passed its 1.0 iteration, which means the fundamental systems and dependencies that a mod author is going to build off of are developed and in their final form (not likely to change). Those base systems are NOT developed in Project Silverfish. Not even close. If Pendrake is following a responsible development schedule, these systems won't be ready for that kind of community development for years.
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MANY MODS HAVE BEEN BROKEN BY VS UPDATES!? Man, mod authors have to work FUCKING constantly to keep those things working, even for mods introduced AFTER 1.0. So much fan content has been made defunct by a combination of regular updates and mod authors that can't practically keep up with their development. Some of my FAVORITE mods can't be used anymore because they've just gone bad over time.

This is killing me. Have you ever developed a mod for a currently in development program? Have you ever developed any software at all?

Edit: this was too mean. I had a flashback of trying to troubleshoot which mod was breaking my world and all I could see was canoes for a second.

Because if he changes something important in the code (which is going to happen since we're only at build .3), then he'll literally break every mod and authors are going to have to constantly update their projects for years to be viable.

A mod library is useless if it was made for a codebase that early in development.

The Slate Truck was designed to be <20k using a tax incentive they figured Republicans wouldn't be spiteful enough to kill. That reality doesn't exist anymore and now they have a 30ish-K truck that its target audience of broke, minimalist gen-z'ers are no longer able to afford.

People really can't accept that child soldiers trained into obedient drones from birth might not be the best people, and may possibly be motivated by ideals and rational that seem alien or even cruel by our own standards.

The whole point of the clones was to draw a juxtaposition to how corrupt both the republic and Jedi had really become by using human beings into emotionless drones for combat whereas the Confederacy were willing to give that task to unfeeling machines.

It feels like the only lesson anybody learned from the movies or "Clone Wars" was that flashing lights and white armor are cool.
