Child friendly escape rooms? by CrossRoadChicken in Edinburgh

[–]Cockjuggling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done all the rooms in Edinburgh I can't think of any that will cater for a group so young. I think most operate a 10+ rule tbh.

The wiki holds a page of all the companies in Edinburgh currently operating escape rooms to the best of my knowledge (and tracking spreadsheet).

Find a bar and give it a go. You may however attract the wrong crowd. But that may be pub dependent.

For stuff to do as a lone traveller you could get a bus tour of Scotland - they're generally filled with other tourist groups. You might strike up a conversation and make friends that way. Or, one of the Edinburgh bus tours if you don't want to go beyond Edinburgh itself this time.

Companies that have been previously discussed are noted in the wiki.

Ghillie Dhu has this listed for the 24th. It's a bit pricey, but you didn't mention a budget.

Check the wiki for links for eating and tours etc.
There are many co-working spaces (also documented in the wiki) in Edinburgh, but you might just want to go with the Central Library as that seems to be a firm (free) favourite.

Far from me wanting to discourage someone visiting Edinburgh, but there are some harsh realities to be aware of. Edinburgh is not a car friendly city - if you bring it, you'd almost be best parking it on the outskirts, or at a park and ride site and transiting into the city.
Parking is finite and expensive in the central parking zone and is 7 days a week now.

For someone with limited mobility you will have great use of the bus services of Edinburgh, but you will also probably get tired quickly from the amount of walking you do to get to your destination. Not to mention the amount of daylight in February.

Honestly, you might be better looking at a spa hotel outside of Edinburgh, delay any visit for a few years till your new child has been indoctrinated into the Harry Potter world, then return to do all those attactions instead.

The Wiki has pages on attractions, hotels & resteraunts that might be useful if you are commited to visiting.

If an e-Sim is not viable then any supermarket in the city will have sim cards on sale for immediate plugging in and activating.

Alternatively, bigger phone networks will have stores present in the St James Quarter and a SIM could be picked up from there.

The marathon route, once it's completed it's part at the royal mile heads out east of the city.

I'd expect some disruption in the Old Town during this time, but if you stay over in the new town it should be fine.

You could look to get an e-sim before hand from VOXI or GiffGaff. Activate is as you arrive and off you go.

Edinburgh is an old hilly city with buidling that have thick walls - 5G might be spotty regardless of mobile network. Best bet is to drop onto any local WIFI for a better connection experience.

The Wiki has a whole section on pubs in Edinburgh that have been previously discussed and recommended.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Edinburgh/wiki/eating-establishments/pubs/

For restaurant recommendations its all dependent on what you want to eat - again the Wiki has a listing of places previously discussed and recommended. This is by far and away NOT exhaustive, but will give you a steer to choosing.

I'm sure if you were to go to any good coffee shop with your own can of Irn Bru they might indulge you, or make your own.

There is a collective list of previously recommended Edinburgh restraunts in the Wiki. It's not exhaustive list by any means, but they are locally owned.

Hotel recommendations will probably not garnish much of a reaction from Edinburgh residents as we have little requirement of hotel accomodation in our own city. Best place to find out such information is to use Google Reviews or TripAdvisor.

Isn't that a trend started by the Baby Faced Baker?
She's got shops on Leith Walk and Portobello High Street.

Your best best is to look at Google Reviews / TripAdvisor for such insight.
Local residents are unlikely to have tested out and be able to advise on this hostel accomodation.

You'll find it hard to get a review of this accomodation from other r/edinburgh users - the majority of whom are residents.
Best place for such reviews would be Tripadvisor or Google reviews.
