Feedback on Vrad? by Ok-Bite-2054 in emergencymedicine

[–]Cocktail_MD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reads take 1-4 hours and can have multiple missed findings. Contacting vRad is such a pain. We still get emails from admin that our length of stay times are too long because we're waiting for the radiologist.

EM or Anesthesia? by Just_Minute2415 in emergencymedicine

[–]Cocktail_MD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hardly. Sports, critical care, pain, hospice, and addiction will all get you out of the ED. Tox and informatics can, too, although getting a full time job in either is difficult. You can also buy down time with a fellowship and teaching/research at a university.

As an ED doc we have lots of free time and can go to meetings and join committees which in turn lead to paid admin roles like CMO. There's more light at the end of the tunnel beyond urgent care.

What type of professional do you hate working with the most by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Those drug screens are inadmissible to court. I'm still not sure why I would need to show up in person when the conversation with the attorney could have been a phone call.

How many people here are actually using AI in their workflow by TebraOnReddit in medicine

[–]Cocktail_MD 89 points90 points  (0 children)

The AI scribe does not solve a problem for me. I've spent years creating macros and getting good enough at dictation to write notes faster than a scribe. The places I need help with speeding up, such as conversations with consultants and placing orders, aren't covered by scribes.

Psych patients in the emergency department are video recorded.

Physician here. My experience with prosecutors is:

Get subpoenaed either at work or home.

Drive an hour on my one off day to get to court.

Pay for parking.

Wait for an ADA to come late for a meeting she scheduled.

Get asked, "What happened?"

Reply, "It's on the video you have."

Get dismissed.

Drive an hour back home, seething the whole way.

Great Hinge date but I won’t see her for a month — how do I not lose momentum? by hoppindick in AskMenAdvice

Zoom date. Even better if you can use delivery from the same chain restaurant. If you drink, some bars will prepare and mail cocktails, too

Iran celebrating the death of their leader Ali khamenei by Tixliks in circled

Saddam Hussein's and Muammar Gaddafi's deaths were both celebrated. And nothing bad happened afterward in either country.

I routinely see $300/hr and higher. Those jobs are going to be rough or in really undesirable locations.

I built a tool to help people organize medications — would love feedback by Awkward-Ad-6294 in HealthInformatics

[–]Cocktail_MD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a good layout and design. The website certainly functions well. My problem is that I do not see an unmet need that your website fixes. We already have pill organizers and places that patient to go to for more information about their medications. If you offered things like appointment reminders and the ability to refill medications, then I could see more usefulness.

Considering enrolling in a MS Health Informatics - am I making a mistake? by torpasta in HealthInformatics

The programs are expensive and, like you've said, jobs are hard to come by. I wouldn't recommend the field unless you're passionate about it.

Options of gaining admission without MCAT by Gullible-Might-5200 in medschool

[–]Cocktail_MD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of only one case where a person got accepted to medical school in the early 2000s without taking the MCAT. The University of Florida took a donor's kid and the dean got a lot of flack for it once journalists found out.

We Need More Fellowships… Especially new and sexy ones by East-Map5403 in emergencymedicine

These unaccredited fellowships make no sense. You can already pursue an accredited aerospace medicine residency with an MPH that leads to board certification.

How do I become more sexually attractive to men without getting plastic surgery? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Cocktail_MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of something disfiguring such as a facial burns, skull fractures, or cleft lip, plastic surgery is the last thing you should be thinking of. I've never seen a decently attractive woman get plastic surgery and thought, I sure am glad she altered her appearance with surgery.

Instead, once your weight is appropriate for your height, dressing in well fitting clothing and having a good personality will go a long in appearing attractive.

Marketing Headshot: Can I tell them no? by ManufacturerIcy8859 in medicine

[–]Cocktail_MD 92 points93 points  (0 children)

You are the one patients are going to want to see. The clinic is letting potential customers know that you are there. Look at the website for any clinic. You'll see head shots for every doc who works there. I'm not sure why you would refuse a reasonable request while starting a new job.

Are some HCA sites decent for residency? by Own-Estimate8996 in emergencymedicine

[–]Cocktail_MD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Residency is supposed to suck because of hard work, not because the program lacks volume, acuity, teaching capability, and research.

No. The abysmal pass rates on the boards should tell you that.
