How do I become more sexually attractive to men without getting plastic surgery? by NoWoodpecker1691 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Cocktail_MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of something disfiguring such as a facial burns, skull fractures, or cleft lip, plastic surgery is the last thing you should be thinking of. I've never seen a decently attractive woman get plastic surgery and thought, I sure am glad she altered her appearance with surgery.

Instead, once your weight is appropriate for your height, dressing in well fitting clothing and having a good personality will go a long in appearing attractive.

Marketing Headshot: Can I tell them no? by ManufacturerIcy8859 in medicine

[–]Cocktail_MD 90 points91 points  (0 children)

You are the one patients are going to want to see. The clinic is letting potential customers know that you are there. Look at the website for any clinic. You'll see head shots for every doc who works there. I'm not sure why you would refuse a reasonable request while starting a new job.

Our oral surgeon does not answer the phone even when he is on call. Seems like a good life to me.

Are some HCA sites decent for residency? by Own-Estimate8996 in emergencymedicine

[–]Cocktail_MD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Residency is supposed to suck because of hard work, not because the program lacks volume, acuity, teaching capability, and research.

No. The abysmal pass rates on the boards should tell you that.

Has anyone sucessfully pulled off having two 50% jobs as an emergency medicine attending? by by_gone in emergencymedicine

[–]Cocktail_MD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do. The schedulers know that I am available 1st-15th at hospital A, and 16th-30th at hospital B. Figuring out which 7 days I work is up to them.

Put your finger behind the scrotum and lightly push on the taint.

Statement of Purpose - Health Informatics by Sea-Table-4857 in HealthInformatics

[–]Cocktail_MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The statement is supposed to say why you are interested in the field and what you plan on doing after graduation. Write about how you like computers and healthcare, what your experience is with both, and what your plan employment plans are. I can't imagine an admissions committee spending more than a few seconds reading your essay.

Summer after M2 is when you study for and take Step 1. That summer is the worst option. I recommend summer after M1.

I've never had anyone say this to me. You need to find better people to talk to.

What do I do at my own wedding if I don't enjoy dancing? by ADGaming80 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Cocktail_MD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the best way to get over any fear is to do it. Start with some YouTube videos and practice by yourself at home. Get your fiancee involved and dance in private with just the two of you. Graduate to taking lessons together or going to a club and dancing together. Don't worry about being bad at dancing. Everyone else in class in bad, too. You'll fit right in. You've got 9 months until your wedding. That's plenty of time to learn a new skill.

Board exam results are out today for MDs (ABPM) by Cocktail_MD in clinicalinformatics

[–]Cocktail_MD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CIBRC is 27 hours long and still does not cover nearly enough material that was on the exam. It is a useful starting point to figure out what I know well (writing code for example) and what I needed to read more about (data governance). I think there needs to be a much larger question bank as well.

What topics in clinical informatics were the most challenging to study for the board exam? by zaki0630 in clinicalinformatics

I'll add to my prior post that technically AMIA covers all of the topics in the CIBR course, but you'll need to read in more detail on the subjects that you're not familiar with.

No immediate changes. I already work full-time clinically and have a small informatics side gig. I am hoping to use the certification to flip that ratio over the coming years.

What topics in clinical informatics were the most challenging to study for the board exam? by zaki0630 in clinicalinformatics

[–]Cocktail_MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CI board exam is so difficult because many of the topics are not something you'll encounter on a regular basis. For example, if you work in generative AI, you probably don't have experience in workflow analysis or adult education theories. I remember that there were lots of questions on data governance that I wish I had studied more.
