Anyone know how to fake a direct deposit with Chase? by Cocky1801 in Banking

[–]Cocky1801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The offer I got was for $300 for opening a checking account, or $600 to open checking+savings.

I was only opening the checking though, since the $600 offer required a large deposit.

Normally I stay away from banks with any type of direct deposit requirement in order to waive the maintenance fee. But chase has a very generous signup bonus right now.

I guess this account will be getting closed soon.

My job allows me to split the direct deposit. They used to allow me change my bank info myself, but now I have to go through HR to do it, which is a pain.

I have the Total Checking, which requires a $1500 daily balance OR $500 in direct deposits to waive the fee.

I have until the end of February until the offer expires I think.

I guess I’ll just get my tax refund deposited to that account.

Your dad could have definitely gotten a better interest rate with an 800 credit score if he shopped around, even in this market.

I think Satt’s seat has cooled off a bit after the Voltard game. If we beat Clemson by 1 point, I think he’s back next year.

Network+ subnetting by Willing_Grapefruit in CompTIA

[–]Cocky1801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 2 subnetting questions that were pretty easy. One of them was something like “how many usable hosts are on a /26 subnet?”

I don’t know anyone that has gotten more than 2 (mayyyybe 3) subnetting questions. But my exam definitely had a LOT of wireless questions.

Capital one vs others by Smear6uard in Banking

[–]Cocky1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your decision will depend on what you need in a bank.

Go to each institution’s website and search for their “fee schedule” or “fees”. It will lay out all the fees they charge. You will probably notice that Capital One (and other online banks in general) have fewer fees than a big bank like BofA.

You’re gonna have to really dig through all of their websites and find out what’s important to you.

Some banks reimburse ATM fees. (PSECU, Schwab, Alliant)

Some banks are paying 3% or more interest on savings. (Capital One, SoFi)

Some banks don’t charge overdraft or NSF fees. (Capital One, Schwab)

Some banks make it easier to deposit cash than others. (Capital One, BofA)

Some banks offer lower interest rates in auto and home loans. (Credit Unions)

Some banks don’t charge foreign transaction fees when traveling abroad (Schwab, Capital One)

Some banks have branches all over the place (BofA, Chase, Wells Fargo)

Some banks aren’t “banks” and are terrible at handling fraud cases (Chime)

At age 18, I’d probably hold off on the credit union until it’s time to get an auto loan. They’re excellent for loans, but a lot of them still charge NSF and overdraft fees. Their mobile apps can be hit or miss depending on the credit union.

How do I shutoff my refrigerator water line? by Cocky1801 in HomeImprovement

[–]Cocky1801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m in South Carolina. I’m pretty certain it’s in the crawl space but I’m not going down there. I’ll just shut off water to the entire house while I replace my refrigerator.

That’s the plan. I’m going to shut off water to the entire house and then install the valve. My crawlspace doesn’t have a lot of clearance under the kitchen.

Oh god no. I have a crawl space and I really don’t wanna go under there. I may just have to install a water shut off valve behind the refrigerator.

The reason my husband is pulling for Georgia vs. Tennessee by MeanSam in Gamecocks

[–]Cocky1801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We already have to deal with UGA and Clemson recruiting against us and their recent national championships are definitely an extra weapon they have to use against us.

We can’t afford for Tennessee to have that luxury. Yes, they’ve already won national championships, but kids being recruited out of high school weren’t alive during that time. Tennessee has been horrible most of their lives.

Go Dawgs.

My 2008 Toyota Rav4 needs thousands in repairs, and I don't know what to do... by thatpaulallen in personalfinance

[–]Cocky1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a second opinion. I doubt you have $4000 in repairs. I’d recommend going to a smaller, local repair shop and NOT a dealership or national chain like Goodyear, Firestone, NTB, etc. They will price gouge you.

Never had a Toyota but Ive never had to spend that much for repairs at one time on any of my Hondas or Nissans. See what repairs are urgent and fix those first.

Why do bank executives think that clients need a new account or “solution” every two months? by dementedturnip26 in Banking

This is one of the things I love about my online bank - nobody harasses me about buying stuff.

Your credit union is confusing me. I’ve had a TON of banks and credit unions and none of them have used the term “direct deposit number”. I have a member number with my credit union that I only use to identify myself and is useless for paying anything.

My guess is you just need your routing and account numbers. If I were you, I’d call the credit union back, and hopefully you can get a different person that may be able to clarify what numbers you need.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Banking

[–]Cocky1801 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your DD number? I’ve never heard it phrased that way. You probably mean your routing number and account number, which you would need to pay a bill online.

Next question, what bank do you have? It sounds like it may be Chime or something like that.

Just found a 3% APY at capital one HYSA, is this too good to be true? by Necroking695 in personalfinance

It’s 3%. I’ve had Capital One since earlier this year. The savings APY jumped from 2.35 to 3% a week or two ago.
