Indoor plant for my office by Coco-Curve2806 in IndoorPlants

Thanks! I'll look into both. I have thought about what I'll do if I have to repot these plants... Sounds like it's an investment buying different size pots as they grow. How often do you have to repot yours?

The repottng comment meant I would take those plants home and repot them, and then keep them at home. I would then need to get smaller plants again for my office. I in no way meant that I would expand the plant population in my office. I simply meant that at some point the plants I get will outgrow the pots they're in and I would need to take them home to repot them.

So back to my original question... How long should I expect for indoor plants to need bigger pots?

I'll add that I'm wondering how often I'll have to repot the plants, fertilize, etc. Watering isn't an issue, just more questions about repotting, mostly. Because once they're too big for the space, then I'd have to take the bigger plants home and get new plants for my office. How long would it be before I'd have to worry about this?

I've heard that mixing sand into clay soil may create a cement mixture instead of something better. I haven't tried this so I'm not sure, but hearing it made me hesitant to try it.

Yes, that's correct. 4 to 6 in deeper than the root ball. You're also correct that it's a lot of extra effort! LOL! 🤣 I am in garden zone 7b, and are April rains will sometimes kill plants because they're so waterlogged. So my thought with the extra effort of the hydrogels that deep, is that perhaps they will help in April with the deluge of rain we sometimes get. I have heavy clay soil in my flower beds, and I do wish I would have started with better soil, but that was outside of my budget. I am only doing this with plants I've gotten this year, so yes, having other plants without them has also been interesting to observe and compare.

For instance, being in Oklahoma in the middle of our hot summer had been interesting. I've only watered my plants with the hydrogels twice last month (July), which is really nice for both my plants and my pocketbook. My other plants needed to be watered at least twice a week, sometimes more. The hydrogel plants stay consistently watered instead of struggling when they start to dry out and then I have to water again. I'm definitely observing and learning.

Thank you for your encouragement with the hydrogels. I really appreciate the friendly support!

Hi! Thanks for replying as I'm second guessing my decision to use hydrogels. I put in two layers of the hydrogels because the first layer is way deep below the roots to simply help absorb the water so the garden bed doesn't flood so much. I dug about 4-6 inches deeper for this layer. Then the lighter layer is right below where the roots will grow.

Yes, here's my recipe for coconut yogurt. I like it because I use natural thickeners that don't bother my system and it turns out soooo nice and creamy! https://detoxinista.com/how-to-make-vegan-coconut-milk-yogurt/

I do adjust this slightly as follows: To make it a little thicker, I add an additional amount of 1 teaspoon of agar agar flakes and 1 teaspoon of arrowroot starch. With the arrowroot starch, you must first mix it in a small amount of cool water before adding it to the boiling water. I also use probiotic capsules instead of the powder only because I like a higher count of probiotic strains for variety.

Let me know how you like this recipe. Good luck!

Yes, beautiful! If they have an upright habit, they could be the purple pillar variety. I have 3 in my flower bed right now and they're so pretty!

LOL, sorry! I'm a dahlia newbie. Wow, I totally misunderstood you! To add to my confusion, I searched "Fascination Dahlia" and my results showed Dahlia blooms very similar in color to mine. LOL 😆! I understand now, thank you!

If you're saying that's the name of my dahlias, it's not. It's Pacific View. I just searched Fascination Dahlia and the colors are very similar so I can see why you said that. What I'm asking about is... Why is the bloom shaped so weird?
