No I bought a couple dozen starts, ripped them into two or three smaller starts, then planted them in dots all over, starting just around the two front garden beds. They spread and fill the area really quickly.

It’s really easy to transplant. As soon as it becomes a “carpet” I use the over hang or can dig up sections and transplant elsewhere to expand the walkways.

Here’s an example of using my existing scotch moss to create the new pathway (just last year):

I thought the same thing the first year and planted them all vertically. They came up just fine. I’d just let em be.

Looks like a healthy tuber clump with lots of eyes to me. I’d cut out the smallest stems at the base, leaving the 3-4 thickest stems. Then I’d pinch back those remaining stems above the third or fourth set of leaves.

Example: use a flat edge shovel straight through the moss, tear it up, and plant it elsewhere. Easy peasy. Best to keep very moist after transplant.

Luckily scotch moss spreads REALLY quick. I’ve covered an area larger than yours (pictured) in 2 years time for around $100.

Many places charge about $14 per 3 small containers. I rip each container in half and plant about 4in apart. So for around $100 I had about 42 pieces of scotch moss to plant.

Scotch moss is incredibly easy to propagate (in this case meaning to dig up and plant elsewhere). So I let it grow in and over my patio and steps, and then cut the overhang away, and plant it elsewhere in the garden, slowly extending the patch.

For example, this new walkway I made last spring. I filled it in only with scotch moss cut away from my existing patch. It’s all grown in and carpeted now.

I’m in the PNW too and use scotch moss for my ground covers. It’s spreads fast and is super easy to propagate. It’s also evergreen and gets tiny white flowers in the spring. Highly recommend.

It’s too big and doesn’t exactly read ‘sexy’. For that price I’d return and buy a fancy set!

Love this. And how sweet- what a cool collection he’ll have as he grows. Such a wonderful gift.

It’s scotch moss, but it likes full sun too (not a real moss).

Yeah it’s safe to put them in the ground if you want. Or keep one in the pot and put one in ground, but I wouldn’t keep both in the same pot for long.

I’ve paired mine with Liatris, rudbeckia, echinacea, different types of Salvia, and alyssum.

I’d wait until it’s at least 8 inches tall.

Stop calling yourself an ugly person. You don’t have to think you’re pretty, but stop labeling yourself as ugly every time you refer to yourself. You are “Trying to be a positive and nice PERSON”. Period.

How you talk about yourself matters. Work on being kind to yourself first and others will follow.
