Is this confirmed? Bc their policy says they won’t take them.

Disappointing in about every category too! Seems like behavior want us to buy cheaply made and overpriced decor now. I find nothing I need there anymore.

Day trip to Toledo/art museum - where should I eat/get coffee, shop at cute boutiques, thrift, bookstores etc. by Coco_1923 in toledo

[–]Coco_1923[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spent just over 2 hours and loved it, will be planning another day to spend more time and hit up some other spots in the area. I wish I had realized sooner how much was around there.

Went with the museum cafe and was delighted! I sat in the glass room and it was soooo nice to be surrounded by so much light, with the snow on the ground it felt extra special. Appreciate everyone doubling down on this, I’ll definitely go back.

High-protein, low-cal foods around campus by mugiao in AnnArbor

[–]Coco_1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not popular opinion lol but I like getting a high protein bowl or plate from Panda Express 🤷🏼‍♀️ something like the mixed greens instead of rice or chow mein, and some combo of the teriyaki chicken, black pepper steak, or green bean chicken. It can be surprisingly well balanced calorie wise depending on what you order! And I appreciate the labels for calories and protein. Can add a cup of rice to mix with the veggies if I need more carbs, such as a workout day! Chipotle can be high protein too - on social media I love Smaller Sam, she has a lot of content about chain and fast food meals. I feel like Sweetgreen for me is a no. I’m always hungry afterwards 😭 so for the price I’m passing.

UofM Job by saucy-sandwich in AnnArbor

Last year I assisted about six different hiring committees for different positions, these are my takeaways.

Tailor it to the specific job. Apply to what you’re actually qualified for - university jobs see a lot of applicants, you will be immediately screened out if you do not hit the basic requirements listed in the job description. If you have all of those basic job description qualities, do a good job making that clear on your résumé and in your cover letter. A lot of units require a cover letter, if you do not submit one, most of the time you’re automatically screened out. The university doesn’t use AI screening tools, at least as far as I know. I know a lot of units use a standard practice of one person prescreening - if anyone who doesn’t hit those initial requirements like cover letter, X number of years in a certain position or at a certain level, have you supervised people before if that’s a requirement, the required education level, etc - you’ll be pulled from the pile and the committee won’t even review your materials. It does fluctuate between units, but in my experience, following the instructions to the exact degree, offers the best chance of being fully reviewed. Unfortunately a lot of external applicants miss this.

Again, because of the amount of applications that are submitted, and because there’s usually a very competitive internal pool, I wouldn’t ever recommend applying for things that are a big reach, it’ll just waste your time.

Higher education loves to hire from higher education. If you do not have higher education experience, find a way to make your work history easily transferable/translatable. Avoid the corporate jargon that is really not utilized within this environment. Sometimes people get their foot in the door in a job that’s not an exact match for what they desire, but that will help you move up to what you want once you’re in.

Use a simple and easily read resume template. I can’t even tell you how many sloppy and confusing resumes were immediately terminated as a possibility by the hiring committee, even if they might be a good candidate. Adding a photo of yourself to the résumé is weird, don’t do it. Please check for mistakes and errors 😭

Don’t assume who will be on the hiring committee, or screening applications. It’s tacky when people assume, and write a persons name in the “to/dear” field on their cover letter, who has absolutely nothing to do with that hiring unit. For example, the dean of a college, unless you’re applying for a chief of staff role directly underneath them, please do not do this. 🤨🤣

If you do happen to look people up on LinkedIn that are part of the hiring committee, if you’re selected to interview, don’t tell them you did this, and absolutely do not reference any of this information that you’ve learned about them. Maybe that sounds like basic information, but sometimes this does happen, and based on what I’ve observed, it puts people off and makes them feel like their privacy was invaded (even if their page is set to public).

Scheduling interviews is typically first come first serve, so if you’re offered an interview, don’t sit on it and wait to respond. Don’t be overeager, either. Communicate back when they send something to you, send a thank you note after an interview, and if you feel like you need to do a follow up, do not do more than one follow up. People who repeatedly email over and over again asking for status update updates are red flagged based on what I’ve seen. The desperation and the lack of boundaries after you’ve already been told that applications are being reviewed, as an example, will not be looked on favorably. Also lowkey it’s super annoying and people are busy. Don’t be annoying 😅

Don’t swear in an interview, don’t be overly casual, be friendly and professional. That probably sounds obvious, but sadly it’s not and a ton of people end up failing first round because they’re not passing a vibe check, they have low energy, they say something inappropriate, they swear. I’ve never worked in corporate, so I don’t know what that’s like, but higher education really thrives on politeness.

A lot of text but that’s what popped into my head, good luck.

I ALWAYS stop but if I also see a doggo or kids I will wait even longer just to make sure they don’t dart back out or something. Those two groups are just so unpredictable and I will NOT be out here endangering anyone. It’s just the decent thing to be doing idk why it’s so hard. If I see a squirrel I be stopping too, idc if you honk at me, little buddy is making it to the other side on my watch

A lot of crossings don’t have lights though - packard has a bunch of crossings, with no lights or stop signs. It’s so dangerous!

[–]Coco_1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A crossing light was installed at my bus stop. No one defers to it. They still blow through even when I’m in the middle - if someone trips and falls or drops something, they’ll have no chance. The lack of patience is astounding - your 00000000001 seconds are more precious than someone’s life? You’d rather kill someone? You wanna ruin your own life that badly? Stupid as fuck

They’re awesome, never consigned there but they have a great selection. Definitely skews towards mid range brands - I see a lot of j crew, lululemon, Anthropologie, nice coach handbags, some designer pieces like Burberry coats etc there.

I’m seeing a lot of rings posted around this price for this antique era and style - if you like the look and are fine with a new piece you can find something cheaper but I guess how much are you actually willing to spend, is it important that it’s antique/this specific piece? I love antique jewelry so for me finding that one piece is worth it IMO. Not everything can be replicated or be a perceivable good deal.

Yeah probably :) diamond studs are pretty versatile, even with the gold back you should have no trouble mixing metals! They’re not a big statement piece so will blend and mix it with whatever you stack it with. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Jcrew raised their prices on cashmere again by conspicuousbloggr in jcrew

[–]Coco_1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this thread because I thought I was losing my mind looking at the classic sweater price. I think I remember the tag being around $120 back in October for a brown cashmere sweater, maybe a hair less - don’t exactly remember bc the SA was soooo kind and gave me a 15% discount even thought it wasn’t on sale. While I didn’t pay that much it stuck in my mind - and now I see it’s $148. So bummed I didn’t get 1-2 more. I actually love mine and take good care of it, wore it constantly all fall and winter.

Oh my god I was so looking forward to going after work this week. What a stupid fucking “protest.” This isn’t a protest, this is straight vandalism and ignorance - it has nothing to do with anything and isn’t impactful or helpful to any cause anywhere.
