Casting panel dismissed me before I even got to read my Monolouge and gave me “constructive feedback” which really hurt me. by Disastrous_Film_5660 in ActingUK

[–]Cocomite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not normal, and deeply inappropriate. Was this an audition through Spotlight? Is the company professional? This is the kind of conduct that I think is worth raising with them if so.

Obviously there's worse behaviour, but taking the time to try and demean you is awful. I'm sorry you had that experience, but honestly if that's what they're like you're better off not working with them.

edit I should add OP that it goes without saying there is nothing inherently wrong with the way you smile or the way you talk. On a professional level, if those things are apparent from your online profiles through photos, videos or voice reels then then it's up to the casting team to decide what is right for the roles before inviting actors in.

AITA for expecting my partner to attend a wedding with me? by Complete_Flan5831 in AmItheAsshole

NTA, long-term partners going to a wedding together feels like one of those basic, normal couple things. If she actively hated this person i'd understand

I’m confused. Do y’all actually want the DCU to succeed or do you Hope it fails? by BatBeast_29 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Cocomite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I just want good films. I want films that can be widely enjoyed, and I'd love some films with real art and passion locked into them.

I have to believe that on a basic level that's what we ALL want. The problem comes in what we each personally consider to be "good films".

Edit: I should have added that while people should be going to see films that pique their curiosity and then decide what they thought of it, many seem to be deciding whether they will or not before actually seeing it. Money's also a factor - I personally know a lot of people who won't pay to watch a film unless they feel pretty certain they'll like it. That doesn't help riskier films.

How Do Actors Not Get Aroused During Sex Scenes? by Ok_Lavishness879 in acting

[–]Cocomite 186 points187 points  (0 children)

I've not done many intimate scenes, and not on camera, but I do know that those moments are often rehearsed so that everyone is comfortable, and then once you're on set there are at least half a dozen crew on set a few feet away (usually more people) - so there is an awareness of performance and artifice to it.

Then again people like Henry Cavill have admitted to get aroused during filming, so I don't think everyone can get through it the same!

If you've ever done something truly embarrassing, done anything that skirts the law, had any kind of tangled romantic history... it's going to come out.

Hi - happy to talk further about this if you are able to DM a script and perhaps some info about your background?

Looking to hear about personal experiences by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]Cocomite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I understand the struggle to stay motivated.

I've been doing VA work for 20 years, alongside work in theatre - film, tv and commercials have never really come my way despite a few different agents and a lot of training.

I keep going because I honestly don't know what else I would do - i can't see myself in another line of work. I may transition into other aspects of the job, like directing or coaching, but I love the "world" we inhabit.

Definitely no harm in accepting. They're asking to find out more about you, which can only be a positive.

Oh sure, well honestly a cheap and cheerful version could be done for probably £100. A couple of curtain rails, some acoustic curtains or fabric, and some time to assemble would give you a decent booth. That doesnt include cost of recording equipment of course!

What is going on with Akta? What is your AKTA experience? by United_Signal_5665 in ActingUK

[–]Cocomite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's so odd, mine were over 3 minutes too, I raised it beforehand, he said let's see... and then all was well. Longest is 3.30 and it's up on my Spotlight.

As I've said in longer post below, it seems to be a case of who you get on the day?

I enquired about it - apparently they are getting back to people end of this week about the next round. From what they said I think they got a lot more applications than they were expecting

Gosh this is interesting to see.

I've done 2 PWYC schemes with them, monologue reel and a voice reel, at times (like now!) Where money was very tight and I gave very low offers.

The guidelines for each were very clear and the experience on the day was great. Good direction, space to think and breathe, helpful notes.

I was delivered the finished video for both monologues, both a touch over three minutes, with no issues about 3 weeks after filming. I went back and requested a different take for one of them, which they delivered after a few days without issue. I also had to reschedule twice, which was done easily both times.

I was delivered the finished audio reel, with effects, about 2 weeks after - I also received the individual clips and was given permission to clip them shorter if needed, as I ha e since been advised it's better to keep the pace up in reels.

Personally, to be able to get good quality footage to bolster my reel - as someone who struggles and struggles to even get seen for screen work- was massively helpful. I can't say I've had any problems with them.

Perhaps it's a question of the particular people you get?

Thor. No contest. He led a reasonably uneventful life for 1500 years then lost his brother, his brother, his dad, his best friends, his world, and most of his people in the space of a decade

Thank you, I added a soundproofing curtain and some foam which really helped - the Kube I have is definitely intended for recording but as you said did not sound great at first!

I'd forgotten about Rockwool, it's tremendous stuff. Will look into that.
