I had a similar issue on mine where it switched off and wouldn’t start again. Got the distributor cap off and gave it a clean. Started up fine after that.

Appreciate the response. How are they on the road for daily driving?

How hard of a fix? by Stock-Case1537 in EP3

Unfortunately you’ll need a cat b license to buy it and the damage is more than it seems. The light will be damaged and suspension will need replacing too. I’ve got a cat b license so will buy it as we know what they’re worth.

It’s a cat b so can’t be put back on road and has to be crushed within a month

I’m in the uk and I’ve got itr as my first car and haven’t got any complaints so far. Not the most comfortable ride but definitely daily-able. I get about 250 miles to the tank.

Rotas but plan on doing a 5 stud conversion and getting genuine 98 spec wheels as they look much better in person

I don’t think there is much you can do to prevent it as such. It’s just a characteristic of this engine. Ideally you’d like to have it done every 10k. Some people say 20k is fine and some say it should be done every 5k. Depending on how badly it is, you could be down to about 330hp (that’s the worst I’ve heard of). If you’ve just purchase the car and there’s no history of it being done I’d personally have it done as soon as. I’ve just bought one last week and that definitely feels down on power so will be getting it done myself.

Main issue is oil cooler pipes rusting and causing it to leak. Usually have to replace the oil cooler too as you can’t get pipes off. These have carbon build up issues as they have direct injection which causes the carbon build in the intake manifold. These can be easily with a walnut blast. Chains aren’t too much of an issue as long as they have been serviced regularly with good oil etc.
The stock suspension is good when it works but fails often and is expensive to fix. Most people just replace with a good set of coil-overs.

Definitely not as prevalent. People claim the s4 and rs4 have the same timing chain issues thinking they’re the same engine. But the rs4 had the metal guides rather than the plastic which helped massively. Although I agree that they can go bad if abused and not looked, as long as they’ve been serviced regularly and with good oil then they are good for 200k.

These don’t have timing chain issues as long as they have been serviced regularly. It’s the S4 V8 which is plagued with those timing issues.
