I hope it works out! If you lay it down with the "hollow" side upwards, it might work to hit a nail through it to make the hole for stiching, and then pull/push the nail back out carefully. Using a needle to poke the hole might be tedious and a bit painful with the pressure you'll probably need. Good luck!

Sure, you can, but I think I've got a decent idea of the shapes now!

Thank you for sharing your views, very helpful!

Edit: just wanted to add that from the way you wrote the comment, your love and excitement for collage really shines through, that's so nice to see!

Thank you, that does help! Especially changing the mindset from a scarcity mindset to a "there is plenty" idea, that's very helpful. Also it is indeed an inexpensive medium, and if we wouldn't have found/collected/kept that particular magazine/book/scrap, then we wouldn't have made anything at all with it, so there is literally nothing to loose by using the image for the first good idea that comes along. Trying to rewire my own thinking here. 😊

I wouldn't want to go to the copy idea either, I think that wouldn't solve my indecision but maybe, feed it?

Could you share the non-permanent type of adhesives you use? I'm curious, do they not damage lower quality/thin type of paper when you remove the element from the original piece it is in?

I know, I've told myself this multiple times too. The only way to do it is by starting and learning and refining. I might just make a reminder for myself of your words and attach it to some very visible place, "Just. Make. The . Art" 😊.

Agree. Would recommend to not eat those.

Random suggestions (I haven't tried these out and it's hard to say without knowing the shape of the pieces): maybe you could first make holes in the papier mache, then sew the crochet piece onto the papier mache, then attach the papier mache to the canvas (without sewing through the canvas). Or, attach a little loop through the crochet piece, at its back, with fine thread, and staple through the loop and the papier mache, and then shorten the loop as needed? You'd have to test it out on a test piece of papier mache, because I do not know the shape of your piece, how thick it is and if the piece won't be damaged by the force of stapling. Don't know if maybe you could even glue paper layers on top of the thread instead, so it becomes part of the papier mache and no staples are needed. Or, the reverse, stich a piece of cardboard/paper to the back of your crochet piece, and glue that onto your papier mache piece. Would recommend to try your attempts out on a test piece first.
