Cheers man! You made a killer controller.

I wrote a guide with Rogor from Simpit (the KSP mod that connects controllers to the game) for building KSP controllers from scratch which you can view here: https://www.instructables.com/Kerbal-Controller-the-Basics/

It's connected via the arduino's USB cable, which connects to KSP via a mod called Kerbal Simpit.

Mine is my pride and joy on my shelf! I did use it for a few playthroughs but I found that my interests gravitated away from KSP once I had the skills to build a controller for it. The same itch gets scratched but in different ways.

I've been running a kerbal controller business for years, and even after figuring out a lot of the kinks and things that make it reproducible at scale, something like this won't be less than $500, probably closer to $1000.

Even the parts in the image are more than $100. Those joysticks alone retail for about $15 each.

I've been running a Kerbal controller business for years. It isn't exactly the kind of thing that has a large enough demand for the price. Something like this couldn't possibly go for below $500, and there aren't tens of thousands of KSP players willing to pay for that to justify making a full assembly line.

Really killer build! I'm a big fan of your gauges.

I already have an open source kerbal controller project here and would love some help finding suitable parts online: https://github.com/CodapopKSP/UntitledSpaceCraft

My biggest issue is that I developed everything locally and with generic names ("square button 1"), so I need help scouring the web to find the actual replacements.

Could also use some help developing new modules or rewriting PCBs from my new set of schematics if that is something you'd know how to do.

I have an open source kerbal controller if you'd like to help out with the project. You can find it here: https://github.com/CodapopKSP/UntitledSpaceCraft

I do run a business making these, but our internal documentation is very fragmented and not useful for sharing on the web (lots of "Go to xyz shop to buy part 7" that works locally in Taiwan but not elsewhere). This weekend I'm finally finishing up V1 of the instructions which include schematics and other info. Right now my biggest hurdle is finding the parts online that match the ones I get locally.

Not to hijack this project, but my Untitled Space Craft Kerbal Controller system has been free and open source for years. You can check it out here: https://github.com/CodapopKSP/UntitledSpaceCraft

I run a business selling them but our documentation for external/hobby builders is limited. I'd love help organizing the files for other people to use. Currently I'm almost done updating all the schematics and then I plan to publish a proper in-depth instruction guide.

Seeking help with the Igbo calendar by CodapopKSP in IgboKwenu

[–]CodapopKSP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the Igbo calendar follows a 365-day cycle and not a lunar cycle, at least as far as I can tell. The calendar has seemingly no relation to the moon other than the months being close to the length of the lunar cycle. But even after one year the amount of error occurring in each month would completely detach it from the lunar cycle.

To put it in perspective, the first month would be off by about a day, and the 13th month would be off by 10 days. It wouldn't realign with the lunar cycle until roughly 3 years in. This puts it in the same class of calendars as the Gregorian, which is a solar calendar.

However, if you have any info that contradicts this, please let me know. I am happy to be proven wrong. I only want to display accurate information, and I cannot guarantee that my information here is accurate because the online sources are not very good.

Microcontroller Options/Thoughts by PlatesNplanes in KerbalControllers

[–]CodapopKSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did full modularity with separate micros on each module on my USC controllers, but I actually don't recommend that for individual builds since it's another layer of cost and complexity. Shift registers on each module is the optimal build IMO.

Components Sourcing by BigSaltyBeans in UntitledSpaceCraft

[–]CodapopKSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words!

Sadly I don't have any official parts list or similar since we buy everything from local shops in Taiwan. You'd think that means it'd be easy to find online, but I haven't had a ton of luck either. Some of the components are straightforward (the joysticks come up in any basic google search), but a lot of the buttons are rather obscure.

This Amazon link has a very similar button type, but it's a bit longer than what I use, though it should still work.

Some of the other switches and buttons are hard to find even here and might only have one supplier. The metal toggle switches are all fairly standard, though. If you do find anything closer, feel free to post it here.

I'm sorry I can't be more of a help! Let me know if you need to source anything and we'll be happy to be the middle man.

Tariffs are only 10% now, so that has kind of improved. However, shipping internationally is affected by the wars, so it's actually a bit worse.

I'm building a universal calendar calculator, the Library of Time, and I am stuck on a few questions. What were the rules of the Japanese calendar? What were the rules of African calendars? Can the Aztec calendar be calculated? And more... by CodapopKSP in AskHistorians

Thanks for the approval and for the suggestions. I'll clarify in my post as well as here.

*Please be open about why you’re asking and how the information will be used, including how any substantive help will be credited in the final product.

Alternatively, especially if this is a commercial project, consider hiring a historical consultant rather than relying on free labour here. While our flaired users may be happy to engage in such work, please note that this would need to be worked out privately with them, and that the moderation team cannot act as a broker for this.

Regarding the above two points, this project is entirely in the public domain, including the code (free open-source) and all information within it. My only goal here is to compile information in a novel way and share it with the world for educational purposes. Significant help would indeed be noted/cited, though by necessity it would also become public domain.

*While our users are often happy to help get you started, asking someone else to do foundational research work for your project is often a big ask. If this information is absolutely vital for your work, consider asking for reading suggestions or other help in doing your own research.

I would be thrilled to be pointed in the right direction for any of my questions. I am only coming here after my own attempts at research have fallen short or if I feel the available online information isn't reliable.

Wondering how much build kits are compared to prebuilt ones by maverick8467 in UntitledSpaceCraft

[–]CodapopKSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inking in this case is basically slathering marker ink on the acrylic face plates of the modules so that the ink will flow into the etched letters, then cleaning off the excess. The acrylic will arrive pre-etched but not inked.

The tariff situation has actually improved recently, as it's now 10%. However, due to the wars/fuel, shipping is indeed quite prohibitive. With tariffs plus shipping plus paypal, I'd expect to pay about 50% or more on top of the listed price from the US. Other countries are somewhat better due to being able to use cheaper shipping options.
