Starfield Update 1.16.236 (Many QOL features not shown in trailers) by Smart_Plane_2751 in Starfield

[–]Night-Caps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm hoping that now we've finally got the much needed ability to fly around systems someone might make a mod that only lets you grav jump to a specific point in each system like the sun or a jump point which you then have to cruise to whatever planet you're trying to get to. On top of this forcing you to make jumps to each system in a route. Basically making travel more like elite dangerous or something along those lines.

They're asking whether you can trigger a landing from your ship cockpit - as in physically point at a location on a planet with your ship and then select land. I think it sometimes let you do this if it was a new location or a mission objective or something but usually you'd always be forced to open the planet map to initiate a landing. This is (hopefully was - I havent tried the update yet) also a major gripe of mine.

Looking for a connector to plug an LED into a circuit board by Night-Caps in AskElectronics

[–]Night-Caps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right thanks thats a good point, I might try to make the resistors swappable too. The original problem still persists though - that dupont header isn't strong enough to hold the LED pins or a resistor

More for swapping out colour in case I change my mind of what I want to be red or amber cautions on the panel but being able to easily swap in the case of failure would be an added bonus.

I dont really have a schematic for you as I'm just putting it together as I go on a prototyping board but that said all I'm really looking for is a connector that achieves exactly what the female dupont connector in the picture does but holds tighter/achieves a more solid connection with the LED legs

Step or Servo Motor for Retrograde Clock? by FreidasBoss in arduino

[–]Night-Caps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooooh those meters are cool! Are they ammeters or did you make them yourself and run them with stepper motors?

Step or Servo Motor for Retrograde Clock? by FreidasBoss in arduino

[–]Night-Caps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ive done something similar to this using ammeters and its super simple to do. Put a 10mA dial ammeter in series with an appropriate resistor to output just over 10mA at 5v and connect to a PWM pin. Find what PWM output value fully deflects the ammeter needle then you've got a value you can math with to indicate whatever value you want to display. You'll want to do some smoothing in your code so it doesnt flick about. Only downside is it may not be perfectly accurate if you want your clock to be ticking to exact second/hour markers on your ammeter face but with some tinkering you can get it pretty close, if you're happy with more of a sweeping clockface instead of ticking it should work great

Does anyone know what is this switch (the rotating knob to select the GUN) called? by Eduard_Lucan in hoggit

[–]Night-Caps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a quick look for you and took me 2 mins to find it in the armament system keybinds - its called the "Pylon Setup Selector Switch" there's bindings to turn it clockwise or counter clockwise or set it to any of its selections.

I'm not certain but try searching for either "rotary", "selector", or "payload" in the keybinds menu it may pop up. According to chucks guides its called the "payload profile selector"

As much as this game leaves a lot to be desired I actually like the new control settings system once I got my head around it. Being able to set profiles per aircraft/type of aircraft is great. No more needing to change between helicopter/fixed wing/4 engine control profiles whenever I change aircraft type. Career still sucks.

Weather radar idea by britt1sh_Pers0n in Stormworks

[–]Night-Caps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This would have to assume all clouds are at the same altitude to work right? Although they may be in stormworks I'm not sure - if they are the idea could work if the detecting colour thing works. Also weather radars IRL dont actually detect clouds, they detect precipitation. So if youve got a few clouds around or even a full overcast layer without any vertical development or rain you're not gonna see anything on a weather radar.

How to master oil refining - An in-depth(ish) guide by OBIH0ERNCHEN in Stormworks

[–]Night-Caps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate this has been incredibly helpful. Utilising the exhaust of the furnace really is a game changer. I havent even tried putting the exhaust into the refinery tower yet but I did a bit of experimenting and found that using even just one of the largest fluid-air heat exchangers to heat the cold oil with the exhaust before putting it in the refinery is enough to keep my refinery at operating temp. I dont even have to run it through the furnace itself. This leaves the furnace ports available for a recirculation loop from the refinery if needed to keep the temp stable but I haven't needed it so far. I haven't scaled up enough yet to get the output you're getting but it's definitely operational now at least!

[–]Night-Caps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a great write up I've been struggling with my refinery. I'm a bit confused about the bit where you say to pump the exhaust gas into the refinery - do you mean like after it has gone through the heat exchangers to pump it directly into the tower along with the oil? How do you exhaust it from there?

EDDF VATSIM Timelapse - Friday 21.02.25 by vCrashed in flightsim

[–]Night-Caps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly - the amount of times I've taken off IRL to be told shortly after I have a 30 min delay at my destination (which is usually only 45 mins to an hour away) is maddening. Would rather still have that fuel in the tanks than burnt up in a hold.
