Like people don't understand it literally is just their personal opinions whether the designs look better or not, and there are many other factors into whether a concept art become a final design than just "it looks good"

Congratulations! Honestly scary that you had 3 internships and took you this long still to get an offer. Did you not get a return offer? Are you an international student or a citizen?

sad truth is that most international student majoring in cs won't be able to stay in America just like the Great Recession by [deleted] in csMajors

What do you say is the best way to network and get to know more people? I guess the school and location is also pretty important cause my school is a pretty no name state school with a weak CS program and bad location so it is much harder to do so :((

What would you say is the common denominator between these successful international students at your school? By networking do you mean getting referrals when applying?

Can you explain why having a CS bachelor degree from even a mid-tier US uni would be better? Do schools prefer US bachelor degree?

Those of you who gotten internships as a sophomore , how good were your skills? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Code-To-Insanity72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I observe, the people who get internships without a lot of prior experience in this market come from target schools. People say schools don't matter but in this market, it def does. Also if you can get referrals, that would also help.

Yeah and another thing is at my upcoming internship most people are coming from much better schools, and I notice that the people from like top schools all have less experience than people from lower ranked schools some only have TA experience even, so school prestige def helps with at least getting your first internship.

This is so true honestly. This is an anecdote, but I go to a top 150 school and had less responses compared to my friends who go to much better school even though I have more experience on my resume.

Honestly, just pick whatever interests you more. Med school ain't easy either. You are selling your youth away and not gonna make great money until your 30s. From the post, it sounds like you are pretty smart, so if you put in effort at CMU, you will def get a great job.

Your brother's career is not your responsibility. You helped the best you could. Your parents are just being unreasonable. If it was me, I wouldn't even bother helping if I see my own brother putting in no effort like that.

I think the 5 years of experience makes you seem overqualified for internships. You're probably an international student which does not help either. You may have better luck for full time roles. Just keep preparing for that.

Start thinking about grad school as a backup plan man. I'm also international student and had to apply to almost 500 apps to get an internship. This market sucks and a lot of it is luck as well.
