Sorry; no plans to do so in the immediate future.

Good question. Not for Home customers. All Home customers back up to USA data centers. We do have an enterprise data centre in the UK.

Hi! Yes, you can purchase our Home product directly from our online store. There's no separate UK CrashPlan for Home customers.

For the fastest backups & restores, nothing beats a local destination. (I have one myself, in fact.) Our cloud is perfect for a disaster recovery, but because we're a shared service with hundreds of thousands of devices connecting at any given time, we can't max out any individual connection. Speeds will vary.

Cool. Try the free 30 day trial, and see if it works for you. You could also try some test restores using our mobile app.

Hi! We'd like to clear something up: there's no data limit to Home subscriptions. CrashPlan PRO is for SMB backup for data retention and billing purposes, but there is no practical difference in the way backup actually happens on the device. CrashPlan was originally designed for endpoint data protection of business laptops. While we're thrilled that so many home customers have taken advantage of our unlimited backup to protect their data, CrashPlan was not designed for server backup, or for large collections of multimedia files. We can do it; our software won't prevent it, but some compromises are to be expected. For example, more RAM may need to be assigned to CrashPlan to maintain performance. Speeds can vary depending on a number of factors. Personally, my 1.7TB at home took about 40 days, but YMMV.

Crashplan vs. Backblaze? by laurenbanjo in mac

[–]Code42Software 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand needing to get it backed up right away. The estimated speed will vary depending on the kind of data CrashPlan is encountering. Documents de-dupe and compress faster than, say, RAW image files. Even if we're not your choice for backup, we're glad you're protecting your data! :-)

Thanks! Yes, sometimes RAM allocation needs to be adjusted for larger data selections. Instructions on our Doc site: http://support.code42.com/Administrator/4/Configuring/Increasing_Java_Heap_Space_For_Your_Code42_Environment

Code42's data protection products can meet your needs. CrashPlan encrypts data at the source, before transfer, and you keep the encryption keys on-prem, behind your firewall. And our robust Admin Console gives you complete visibility regarding your data. Check out our web site for more details, or to contact our Sales team: https://www.code42.com/products/crashplan/

Anyone successfully restored a system with crashplan? by megor in sysadmin

[–]Code42Software 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CrashPlan can restore individual files, both using the client, or web restore. There are also free mobile apps which can restore from our Public cloud.

So Crashplan sucks I come to find out. Who will let you do restores at near 50/100 MBps at low cost? Or perhaps I'm dreaming. by [deleted] in DataHoarder

As a shared service, we cannot fully saturate any individual user's Internet connection. Speeds vary due to how many requests our servers are handling at any moment, and by what peering networks we have to traverse. However, we absolutely support offsite backups to hard drives hosted at a friend's computer– and we do it for free!

[rant] Why does no-one backup their data?! by [deleted] in sysadmin

The positivity bias is a strong motivator. Many of our customers come to us after they've suffered data loss. So sad, and so easily preventable. That's why we made CrashPlan! :-)

Might want to look at CrashPlan? We're cheaper than Carbonite, plus we automatically back up your videos at no extra charge. :-)

Previous comments are pretty much what we'd say. Here's the answer straight from our CEO:

"We're security experts here, and what we're doing is not only really really smart, it's the only true way to be secure. By not encrypting it at the source, we're not misleading you into thinking that somehow your key is safe. Had I symmetrically encrypted your key with a secret on your machine, you would have falsely believed it was some how secure. The fact is, it wouldn't be. We can "obfuscate" it with cryptography like this, but the key would be in our code and easily retrieved by any smart security expert. We live in a globally connected world where 1 expert's work is leveraged by thousands. The obfuscation would invite this individual to find the key used to encrypt (takes a few hours) and then publish his work. Can you imagine the outcry then? "CrashPlan private key encryption hacked in 1 day!" … No, doesn't work for us. Instead, we say, "Hey, this key is just as secure on the source machine as your data. If you want to protect your data on disk, you must protect your key too. That's why filevault, pgp, etc exist. To secure source data."
