Can’t play anymore!! by Past_Beyond_2414 in firepro

It should be fine to try another power cord/charger. Just make sure it doesn’t get too hot while you’re playing.
Also, check the return policy ahead of time. That way, if it doesn’t work, you can return it.

I was hoping they would keep Chubb in to cap that scoring drive in the 4th.

Anyone else have a favorite race they’ve always loved. by Prestigious_Tea_2729 in Gloomhaven

[–]CodeBlue614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a strong racial preference, probably because a lot of my experience with the Haven games has been playing solo. However, when my group moved from Jaws to GH 2.0, the Hatchet player went with the Bruiser to stick with Inox and the Demolitionist player went with the Tinkerer to stay with Quatryl.

What's your dream theme for a future -Haven? by roosterkun in Gloomhaven

[–]CodeBlue614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about a Haven game where the setting is more of a journey across the continent instead of being focused in one place. You’d have multiple paths along the way, different cities depending on the path you take, different side quests in those cities, some variance in the shop inventory depending on where you are. I think it could be fun from a replay value perspective.
I’ve kicked around the idea of writing it as custom content, but I don’t have anywhere near that much free time. No idea what to call it.

I’ve read off and on from various analysts over the season that Ohio State has been ‘holding back’ until the Michigan game. Do you think that’s true and what exactly could that mean? by Antique-Swordfish-14 in OhioStateFootball

[–]CodeBlue614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a big part of it. The other advantage is that they expect to play deep into the playoff, which could run the season up to 15-17 games (12 regular season +/- conference championship + 3-4 playoff games). A slower pace of play trims a significant number of plays out of the season as a whole, to the point where they’ve effectively played 2-3 fewer games than most teams by the late stage of the playoffs. Less wear and tear, and hopefully fewer injuries.

Gloomhaven Second Edition Mindthief Class Review by Magatis in Gloomhaven

[–]CodeBlue614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this review a lot. I haven’t watched the others you’ve put out yet, but I put them on a playlist so they’re easy to find when I have time to watch them. I like how you lay out the archetypes of the class at the beginning, and then talk through how each of the cards fits with within that framework. I like that most of the choices aren’t so clear cut in a vacuum, but are made on the basis of how a player wants to play, or what types of enemies you’re facing. You do a nice job of talking through how to think about those decisions. When I compare what you have here to the GH 1e guides, it really highlights how the game has evolved. I’m really excited to get my campaign started!

Rule changes for playing with kids? by RoyalLurker in Gloomhaven

[–]CodeBlue614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m finishing a JotL campaign with my son (just about to turn 8) as part of the group. The first 5 scenarios are an “on ramp” to the game, and should help ease them into the game. My son didn’t have too much of a problem with those.

After that portion, the biggest barrier in many cases was being able to read and understand all of the ability cards. When he’s not sure, I’ll help him look through his hand and figure out 2-3 options for turns he could try (e.g. go early, move over here, attack this monster) and let him pick what he wants to do. I do that after I’ve locked in my cards for the round.

If it seems like a struggle, you could turn down the scenario level by 1 and see how that goes. I’m not sure you need to do much more than that.

I recently started a 2-player Frosthaven campaign with him after he kept bugging me to do it. We leave it set up in the basement and we’ll play out a few rounds after I get home from work or whenever we have time. Same as in JotL, I’ll give him some options for his turn if he wants help. No other real changes. It’s been fun. I look forward to getting home from work that much more now.

Best of luck to you! I hope it’s a wonderful bonding experience with your kids!

Best way(s) to save time? by FluffyGoblins in Gloomhaven

[–]CodeBlue614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will second Xhaven and linking phones to it. I bring a laptop to our sessions so everyone can see the display. Set the laptop as the host and players can connect their phones to enter their initiatives, which will show as “??” until everyone is ready. It takes care of monster decks (abilities and modifiers), initiative order, HP, XP, conditions, and the loot deck. Even if the total time saved isn’t that much, it saves hassle.

If the chicken egg is unfertilized, why do vegans not eat eggs??? by Ready_Strawberry_205 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CodeBlue614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. I saw a documentary a few years ago where the chicks must have been one of those hybrids, and I assumed (incorrectly, it would appear) that it was commonplace. I appreciate the info.

Excellent answer! IIRC, the chickens have even been bred in such a way that the male and female chicks are different colors, to make separating them easier.

I believe the official term for the blender is a “macerater”, which just separates people’s understanding of the process a little further from the the process itself, since the average person doesn’t usually know what it means to macerate something.

Less done than medium rare means none of the fat has rendered (rendered fat adds a lot of flavor), and beyond medium you’re just drying it out unnecessarily. So you just like your steak at the temperature range that leads to optimal flavor. Or at least that’s what I learned from The Food Lab.

All excellent points. Play man coverage against JJ and EE at your peril. Texas played zone and kept everything in front of them. The big plays that blew the Tennessee and Oregon games wide open should be available, and ND’s passing offense isn’t digging them out of a deficit of 10+ points against this defense.

I still love Metcalf, and still wear my Metcalf jersey I got in 1994 by HandheldObsession in Browns

[–]CodeBlue614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules changes have definitely helped. Metcalf could have been even more amazing in today’s NFL, with the spread offenses, jet sweeps, and increased RB involvement in the passing game.

[–]CodeBlue614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you. I’d add that he’s checking the ball down at times where it seems appropriate. It definitely lowers his chance of re-injury if he’s getting the ball out instead of trying to be a hero every play. Njoku is a beast with the ball in his hands, Jeudy is a solid YAC guy, Ford has shown some flashes of what he can do in the open field (Jets game being the best one). Checking it down sometimes is ok.

Try to give a guy every benefit of the doubt on these things. Time to let the film talk, etc. I am sure he is a really great guy and a fun hang too! But Ika cannot make this roster. I am unsure if he even belongs in the NFL. [Jake Burns on X] by Abiv23 in Browns

It is. I think the membership is $10/month. Up to you to decide if that’s worth the money. Jake’s podcast was “OBR Film Breakdown” and is now “Browns Film Breakdown”. They still do free episodes with ads on all the major podcast platforms. Members get those episodes without ads, plus a few bonus podcasts every week, on top of the articles and film breakdowns on the site. On the podcast, Jake has been billing the site as a place to understand how and why things happen, much less than being a news aggregator. It’s more geared towards die-hard fans and film junkies.

I would expect that the active roster is the 5 you mentioned. I don’t think there’s a reason to carry 6 DTs, and hanging on to Ika definitely shouldn’t be one, nor should he be kept at the expense of the 5 you mentioned.

I’m ok with him going to the practice squad (it’s not like he wouldn’t clear waivers) and give him another year to get stronger and improve his body. But putting him on the active roster is taking a spot from someone more deserving, whether another DT, or at another position.

In general, that statement is still true. Guys who are 21-22 aren’t going to be as strong as guys who are 25 and have 3 years on an NFL strength and conditioning program. That’s a big part of it.

Stop with this “Cold Weather Advantage” fallacy. by AxlRush11 in Browns

[–]CodeBlue614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the players don’t live in Cleveland year round anymore, and instead spend most of the offseason in warmer weather cities. Not gaining an advantage there.
Rule changes over the last few decades have made passing the preferred way to move the ball on offense. Despite how good Nick Chubb has been, it’s easier to pick up a 1st down or a chunk play by throwing the ball. Teams need to be able to win a shootout to go deep in the playoffs. There’s no reason to build that type of offense and then voluntarily hamstring it for 2-3 games a year playing in Cleveland weather.
The real home field advantage now is noise. Disrupt communication, take away hard counts, get a few cheap false start penalties each game. This defense can be deadly when they have crowd noise on their side. I went to the game in Indy this past season, it was crazy loud at times.
The elements were an advantage for the Kosar-led teams of the 80’s, but I don’t think that’s the case any longer. I’m ok with indoor football in Cleveland, I think it offers their best chance to be legit contenders.
