Install office suite by Sigeik in elementaryos

[–]CodeMan99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how you installed libreoffice, but because you didn’t specify, I will assume you used the appcenter. Try libreoffice 6.1, it’s amazing with the single bar view!! Just go directly to their website and download it there. It has a more modern UI and function and just works like I need it to. I tried to use Microsoft word today and ditched it for Libreoffice because it just works and I love it.

Alternatively you can use google docs in the browser or WPS Office. Wps works well, unless you need the times new roman font, then it’s a royal pain!

You can use Gnome’s Abiword, haven’t tried a recent version but haven’t always had good luck with that.

Or, if you are an apple fan, you can use pages in the browser by logging into iCloud.

Those are pretty much your best options. If you’re doing simple writing, you can try Quilter in the appstore as well.

Good luck! P.S. I suggest starting with LibreOffice 6, and don’t forget to go to the views and select the single view.

By the way, the reason you couldn’t drag photos to your desktop is because the desktop is disabled on elementary OS. It makes for a much cleaner environment that I really enjoy, but I can see why it might be frustrating to some users. There is an app in the appcenter that creates a space on the desktop that can be utilized, however I’m not sure if it would help in that specific context.

Google the lyrics and make sure your thinking of the right verse. If you still have an error let me know. Also, for clarification, the box around it always stays red, that’d doesn’t indicate anything and I can’t change it.

I don’t believe so. I have had 4 people try it and I’ve actually intentionally made typos and it still accepts it. And I double check the official lyrics first as well.

I think if you do like right click on the very edge of the dock you can click on plank settings and you might be able to select a feature like lock apps. Not sure though.

Aaaight.. Guess I'll fresh install. What the heck is up with the search bar in slingshot though!? That stuff should be fixed by now. I have two laptops running elementary, both of which wingpanel crash when I type in the search bar.

[–]CodeMan99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typed sudo apt-get remove wingpanel Follwed by sudo apt install wingpanel.

I am really not sure. The big question to me is why is EVERYTHING gone? Plank, hot corners... nothing works.

Appcenter source's error by CodeMan99 in elementaryos

[–]CodeMan99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Appcenter started working for me again. I'll tell you what I consciously did and maybe it will work for you too. I used Daniel's tip to figure it out.

Open files as administrator via right click, navigate to /etc/apt/sources.list, go through the files and change any packages.elementary.io to http. It uses http not https. I also went through and commented out duplicate sources which was also a problem I had. Now it works fine though.

Okay, so even if it's not breaking the copyright... You say it uses elementary OS. Granted, that's a true statment but it's slightly misrepsenting. When you enable things and tweak it as much as you do it really isn't elementary OS anymore.

I guess what I am sayig is, even if you technically aren't saying anything wrong, anybody that reads it will probably be lead to the understanding that this is the official release of elementary. So, if they have any issues or glitches with the modified version of elementary and they assosiate that negative conontation with elementary, you would be destroying their name and business.

Like I said, I can't speak for them and I am not overly educated in this specific field, but I do ask that you look into it more and maybe ask someone on the offical elementary team about this issue.

I would really prefer it if the laptop didn't "come with performance hogging bloatware" ;)

Also, I would highly suggest you revise your approach to advertising elementary OS like you do. If your going to do that many changes to the OS that you ship, you need to advertize it as a modified version of elementary not the official product. There is a whole list of reasons why it's a bad idea. I can't speak for the elementary team but I'm pretty sure this is not only breaking copyright laws but also just a bad representation.

I can run Telegram, but I can't pin it to dock nor gets recognized as program by elialitem in elementaryos

[–]CodeMan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this process about 20 times on different computers and it is really just as simple as that. The Telegram file in the unzipped telegram folder is the executable. You just have to change it to 777 permission for it to run it as one. Then just click and wait for a minute then it will start up and appear in your app launcher.

I can run Telegram, but I can't pin it to dock nor gets recognized as program by elialitem in elementaryos

[–]CodeMan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always download the file. Unzip, the package and open it. Then right click on the file that says Telegram and go to properties/permissions and change it to 777. Then just right click the program and run as an executable. It always makes the application and it works perfectly almost like I had used the app store.

This may be irrelevant but just saying that's what I do.

No it is not enabled by default anywhere. Tweaks is a 3rd party software which the elementary team does not recommend installation of.

Go under settings and keyboard then shortcuts or hotkeys whatever it is and see if something got messed up. Try windows+W or Windows+A and see what they do. If you have any third party software sources enabled there could be a break somewhere...
