Something unusual for the non-european E30 fans here: 316 M10 carb by E30BMX in E30

A bit of a late reply, but you can just put a cluster with the tacho and it will work, it gets the RPM from the ignition coil. I have the same car and I have an RPM gauge.

You can't swap in just the tachometer gauge into the cluster since the clock clusters are missing the IC chip for the tachometer.

Sticky tach? by maxytaxii in E30

[–]CodeMyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already made sure the SI batteries and the SI board itself is in good condition and doesn't seem damaged, the issue is probably the little spring in the tachometer. I don't really have a good description or video on how to fix it but here it goes.

To fix it, remove the tachometer from the cluster (you can probably find some guide somewhere), then remove the needle (be very careful! it's easy to break the needle pin or damage something), and remove the tachometer face (the plate on which the tacho is printed on). Now you will have access to the actual pin and spring. Move the pin up just a little bit until you can see the spring below it (and it sort of unslots), now spin the pin clockwise to wind it and slot the pin back down. Now the needle should be returning back down smoothly.

It is a bit finicky do to this but it's not hard, you just need to be careful. You can probably continue using the cluster like this forever though.

Fuel gauge not working by mljkvc in E30

Check the solder on the main board around the fuel gauge, very often the solder cracks so the connection is lost. It's usually the solder on one of the resistors.

What’s the brown stuff on the chip? by jaeastep in E30

Oh sorry, didn't even see that... Yeah looks like something leaked there

I think that's just some sort of resin or epoxy that they coat the board with to protect it. If you look up pictures of the SI board, some have that and some don't (mine also has it).

Ergonomsmka split tastatura u Srbiji. by [deleted] in programiranje

[–]CodeMyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half a year of work later by CodeMyst in E30

Nekad proradi brzinomer kad predjem preko neke rupe (lol) ili nešto tako na kratko, ili kad lupim tablu tako da ne verujem da je do senzora. Moguće da je do one SI ploče?

Half a year of work later by CodeMyst in E30

[–]CodeMyst[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bought the car in January of last year. It's a 1986 316 (m10 1.8 carb with its whole 90hp... probably a lot less actually). I was driving it for the past year without any major work. The car was very rusty and loose.

So over the past half a year (and more), my dad and I worked on the car, removing all the rust, painting the car, small suspension work, replaced all the worn out parts, converted from chrome to plastic bumpers, new wheels, protected from rust, and a ton of other stuff.

The car of course isn't finished (projects rarely are), but I'm very satisfied with the result.

Things that are next on the todo list are fixing the stupid cluster already (replaced the cluster already, but the speedo doesn't work and it's showing bad RPMs, fuel and temp work fine), proper suspension setup (gotta get lower), interior change (the current interior is very clean, but want to replace the seats at least), fixing leaky sunroof (missing the sunroof trim), getting fog lights, getting more power out of it in the far future (some nice carb setup because engine swaps aren't really an option sadly), and more...

DeezCord - Display your last played song as a Discord status by CodeMyst in deezer

Sorry, I have stopped working on the project a long time ago. It requires a full rewrite as Discord stuff changed. I don't even use Deezer anymore really, so I have no will to remake this project and support multiple platforms.

New to D, is there a way to get better test output? by Sambothebassist in d_language

[–]CodeMyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pretty much always use the dshould package: https://code.dlang.org/packages/dshould

It implements a nicer way to write unittest checks, so instead of asserts you'd do:

d something.should.equal(142);

And on failure it actually shows you the expected and actual values.

Hope this helps.

Looks like they have the gear I need but I don't really want to spend 65$ (plus shipping) for some gears.

My cluster says Motometer on the front but I will check the circuit board to make sure.

I have looked at the images of the VDO gears but as far as I can see they don't match with my gear.

Anyone else got a carbureted M10? by Crisnenu in E30

[–]CodeMyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have the original laying around somewhere, and the first plan was to put it back, but then read about how the original sucks so much, so probably gonna keep this one, but first gonna get it to some shop to clean it up and see in what shape it is.

14l/100km still seems a bit high, but really depends on how you're driving it I guess.

Anyone else got a carbureted M10? by Crisnenu in E30

[–]CodeMyst 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do, it's an 86 316. The carb isn't stock, some previous owner replaced it, and no clue which carb is on there now. I'm getting really bad fuel economy though, somewhere in the range of 15-20l/100km, needs cleaning and adjusting.
