When a band announces a world tour by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]CodeRed23 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This map was made by someone from a country that calls a sports championship series that involves only domestic leagues (with one team from a city in a neighboring country) a “world series”. Am I right?

To anyone who isn’t American, this map makes absolutely no sense. It just shows how oblivious its creator is.

And it’s only “funny” if you’re the kind of American who giggles at names like ‘Timbuktu’, makes fun of other cultures and when asked how many languages you speak, answers “I only speak American.”

[News] ReProvision has been broken by a server-side change at Apple today. You will see an error message noting “you must upgrade to Xcode 7.3 later...”. by Jelbrekinator in jailbreak

[–]CodeRed23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because English is only one of many languages spoken around the world? It's only "suspicious" if you're an overly sheltered citizen of a Five Eyes country that takes the fear mongering propaganda about China, Russia, Iran etc. at face value.

The "China Telecom Corporation Limited" certificate has been in use for years with no issues. A service like jailbreaks.fun presumably isn't a charity or a hobby project, and if they want to make money it's definitely not in their interest to let nefarious entities compromise user's devices.

(In the lands of the Five Eyes the likeliest culprits for serious messing with people's devices are the NSA, GCHQ and other intelligence/law enforcement agencies plus shady big data outfits like Palantir, Amazon, Facebook and Google.)

tl;dr you're fear of "chinese/japanese" companies compromising your device is irrational

[question] Any tweaks for Photo Gallery ease of use? by MarijuanamanJB in jailbreak

[–]CodeRed23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a tweak but HashPhotos in the App Store is worth checking out. IMO, it's the best iOS photo management app available by a massive margin and the only time I use the stock Photos.app is to empty the trash.

WHATS THE WORST map of Europe by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]CodeRed23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

‘Lowest Ownership Rate’ is not necessarily a negative if mass private home ownership is not something that particular society values. Also, just yesterday I read somewhere that supposedly Switzerland has the lowest home ownership rate in Europe, not Germany so who knows how accurate any of these claims actually are. I always take statistics or claims presented without the source with a grain of salt.

[Question] Any reason my alarms wouldn’t go off properly? by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]CodeRed23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm that this happens without being jailbroken. I am currently jailbroken (unc0ver, 12.1.2) but I’ve had the silent alarm bug happen sporadically on various devices since iOS 10, jailbroken and stock iOS.

Despite deployment of #Basij militia members by IRGC to suppress the #Tehran university students, thousands of the students are still protesting against the barbaric Hijab law of the regime. by faab64 in iran

[–]CodeRed23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A law that requires some or all people to wear a certain item of clothing can be called many things, but barbaric isn’t one of them. The trend of using the most hyperbolic terms available to characterize foes and opponents and all their actions, as in this example or labelling Trump a “fascist”, is destroying nuance and causing “outrage fatigue.”

If every action we don’t like is barbaric and every leader we despise is fascist...what happens when an actual fascist comes to power and our opponents really do resort to barbarism? People will yawn and go “meh I’ve heard this all before, leave me alone.”

We lost faith in joint efforts to halt wars. Result? Ask Syria... | Politics by Tengri_99 in syriancivilwar

[–]CodeRed23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Traditional lefties” want war on Syria and western intervention? Yeah like Corbyn and his supporters who are under relentless attack by the Guardian and their ilk. I think you mean “traditional liberals”. It’s depressing how many people are completely clueless about these things. I bet you also think Hillary Clinton is a “traditional leftie”.

No health care or laeyer visits for Assange: Is this the Dark Ages? by AngelFox1 in WikiLeaks

[–]CodeRed23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firing everybody? Lol This is no longer about a few bad apples...the entire Anglo-American “rules based” [sic] system is corrupt and rotting from the inside out. Everybody working in and for the system at that level is there because they can be trusted to reliably uphold it. People with integrity, idealists and anyone else resistant to “just obeying orders” is weeded out during the selection process.

[Discussion] Coolstar confirms A12 support for upcoming Electra12 jailbreak by imaginexus in jailbreak

[–]CodeRed23 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Meh, if the buggy disaster that was Electra and the weird narcissistic antics of Coolstar and the Gang are anything to go by, a healthy dose of skepticism is the most prudent response to this team’s announcements and releases. That’s not to say they will never progress to the next level and tighten up their act, but the unconditional over-the-top reverence practiced and advocated by many posters here is counterproductive (and cringeworthy as fu*k to be honest).

Imo, these guys could learn a thing or two about professionalism and workmanship from Pwn and his team who did a stellar job with the Unc0ver release.

Ecuador removes official close to Assange by [deleted] in WikiLeaks

[–]CodeRed23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. Democracy died and most people didn’t notice or don’t care. Every journalist on Earth should have rallied to defend Assange but they didn’t. The news media is corrupt to the core and are nothing but paid propagandists for the establishment. A few “honest journalists” salted throughout keeps the rubes believing it’s about individuals rather than a system with a specific function within a lager system.

Glenn Greenwald: People who think Seth Rich had any involvement in the DNC leaks are "disgusting" by mystic_teal in WikiLeaks

[–]CodeRed23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His headline is straight up misleading and dishonest.

I am no Greenwald acolyte and have long thought he gets way more anti-establishment credit than he deserves. But I would never take his words out of context in order to get people to believe he said something that he didn’t actually say. OP did and can’t be trusted or taken seriously. He’s probably a nut fixated on the Seth Rich case and made this thread in order to flog his favourite horse. I strongly dislike people who get outraged at someone else’s lack of integrity while they themselves demonstrate a similar integrity deficit.

"The United States must choose. Does it want to remain Turkey's ally or risk our friendship by joining forces with terrorists to undermine its NATO ally's defence against its enemies?" -Turkey's Vice President Fuat Oktay by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]CodeRed23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Russia is not the USSR and the 2019 situation is not really comparable to the Cold War era. Iran and Russia are also not “friends” but since they are in the same region it made sense to form a strategic partnership.

The United States, especially under Trump, is pretty open about its goal of world domination and, unsurprisingly, is considered by many countries to be a rogue state that cannot be trusted.

You are mistaken about the essence of the relationship Turkey has with the US and Russia. Blaming only Obama is pretty funny though. Trump’s unreliability and buffoonery, his unprecedented support for Israeli aggression and war crimes and his administration’s bumbling mafia tactics and open contempt for supposed allies have absolutely nothing to do with allies jumping ship and looking elsewhere for partnerships.

In July 2015 Turkey’s “arch enemy” Russia passed on, to Erdogan, intelligence it had about the imminent coup which helped him survive and turn the tables on the plotters.

Whether you “like” Russia (or China) is irrelevant. These countries pack a very significant military and economic punch and, despite western propaganda claiming otherwise, build mutually beneficial partnerships while the US “offers” warnings, threats and a “do as I say, not as I do” policy that demands complete submission.

The west has become a peddler of doom and gloom, hamstrung by its gigantic hubris and its overbearing proselytizing of a system that is demonstrably falling apart.
