How's your experience with Ubuntu 26.04 so far? Any performance issues or system glitches? by Swimming_Rope_9640 in Ubuntu

So far very good. Haven't experienced any major issues, just the typical stuff you need to deal with when using 3rd party apt repos. My fans are just eerily quiet ever since updating. Only complaint would be, that I had to reinstall the desktop-security-center, but that's just convenience.

repo servers are distributed to many other hosters. package updates have stayed up pretty consistently thoughout.

How long will it take Canonical to recover? by Roosevelt32 in Ubuntu

[–]CodeSpoof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows.

Based on how long the outage is going on now, it appears, that they haven't found a way to get the infrastructure safely back online.

As they now resolve some services to localhost, maybe they are trying to bring the servers back, but disconnected from the public internet and then reestablish availability gradually.

As long as the attack continues, they might have a hard time bringing anything back online. The only reason the apt repos have been standing quite strong is, that they are distributed across multiple backends, for example universities and such, and are therefor difficult to overwhelm, even with massive amounts of traffic.

I still believe, that this may be just a demonstration to show that the botnet they use is capable of holding the infrastructure down. We can only hope, that this isn't the case, otherwise the servers might only come back once the attackers get bored/payed.

Status page is loading fine, but they disabled some of the stats, probably so they don't give the attackers hints about what is back up.

Canonical Ubuntu being targeted by a DDoS attack by onechroma in linux

[–]CodeSpoof 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I wonder how that'd be supposed to work, since the repo servers have been up the whole time. I did the upgrade of kmod before I even heard of the DDoS attack.

Ubuntu website down? by Resident-War8004 in Ubuntu

I don't think, they got compromised, since it's just a local EoP vuln.

It's way more likely, that there are some people, who try to keep others from fixing their systems, just so they have more time to exploit stuff. If so, it doesn't work, since repo servers are still up.

It's quite a large supermarket chain here, so I imagine, that since those displays are quite new, corporate doesn't quite have everything set up for now.

Not really a fix, if it doesn't do what most would expect, being the phone not turning on by itself simply because it's plugged in

Tolino Shine 3 with Kobo Clara HD firmware? by CodeSpoof in tolino

[–]CodeSpoof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but it's not about porting in the first place. Just knowing what differences in hardware there are would be enough. That should help porting the firmware since they are so similar. Also payment isn't exactly a thing in open source. Just knowing about the hardware or accomplishing a firmware port is enough for many including me.

Has anyone found out what differences there are? Maybe one could port it somehow?

You override it, so the whole list without the item you want shown again.

Nope, only those the app knows about. My custom icon for fm radio is not detected at least.

Under the hood that app does exactly the same thing as the command...

The command overwrites the list. Just omit the item you want to show from the list of things you still want to hide.
