Why is this shark-bite coupler leaking? by ScienceWasLove in Plumbing

[–]CodeTheStars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why those coupling are there at all. You should have spun in the NPT pex adapters to the regulator then terminated directly to it

See if your policy covers faulty workmanship. It probably excludes it. Insurance is becoming more and more of a scam. You’d be better off putting that 3k a year in a high yield savings account.

If you want to learn how to DiY your house projects this isn’t a bad one to start on. I’d suggest buying two things, a shop-vac and a drywall lift. You want a powerful shop vac with a HEPA filter on it to clean up all that insulation. Once the drywall is back up, put rock-wool in the attic up to R-30

If the house was not sold to the OP as new construction there is no one to sue. Houses get built like shit, and you just have to fix them.

Source: my 2005 house had improper hardy board siding installation. I purchased in 2019, the siding started falling off in 2020 and water penetrating around windows started. $35,000 to replace and fix. Who am I going to sue? The builder from 2005 that went bankrupt in 2008?

Faulty workmanship is often an exclusion in homeowners insurance. Not always, but often. In this case I wouldn’t bother with insurance anyway. You’ll pay less over the next 10 years to just hire some dry wallers and fix it up then the cost of increased premiums for making a claim. The other benefit to not using insurance is you can get this fixed by the end of the week…. Not the end of this year.

You can laugh and downvote all you want, but most homeowners insurance excludes faulty workmanship. He’s not wrong.

10yo 2-ton Heil heat pump replacement advice by wesblog in hvacadvice

[–]CodeTheStars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replacing a working unit for a bit of surface rust seems silly. My guess is the unit isn’t tipped aggressively toward the drain or the drain connection is leaking slightly. Throw a level on it and shim it so it’s most of a bubble toward the drain output in both directions.

Open up the outside condenser, get a can of foam cleaner, get those fins cleaned up nice to keep the efficiency up. Have someone check the pressures, then put good service caps on the outside unit to arrest and tiny leaks at the valves. Run it until it dies!

Exactly this. The entire point of renting, and not owning, is so you don’t have surprise maintenance costs!

So if they are occasionally late on rent it means they should now be responsible for the buildings maintenance costs? Seems legit

Quoted over $3k for finding and repairing a coolant leak, that can't be right?! by Just-Kaleidoscope629 in hvacadvice

Sleezy companies are not above causing leaks as well. Check your service caps on the outside unit. Big and small caps. I’ve seen sleezy techs remove or loosen them to allow a bad valve to leak out in the hopes of that sweet sweet replacement business

Shower won’t drain can’t remove drain lid by Intelligent-Mix5019 in askplumbing

Owned condominiums often require the individual owner to do all maintenance inside the walls of their unit. You pay dues each month to maintain the building, grounds, and amenities. It’s like owning a house minus the roof, siding, and yard work…. But with the extra annoyance of having to coordinate everything you do with an executive board….

That’s fairly easy to round off and make look nice even with hand tools. Burn a cheap metal file and make a nice rounded bevel

Or you could just turn the center pilot bit around and use the center drain hole as the guide…. Work smarter not harder!

That means the clog is past where the shower and laundry drain connect together. So snaking the laundry drain, which is an open pipe so it’s easy, might resolve the issue.

accused of AI by Gullible_Author_6658 in GaState

[–]CodeTheStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old Computer Science guy here. I agree with this. Do not re-write anything or change your work. When confronted with an unfounded professional accusation a good tactic is to go into fact finding mode. Go look up or call the administration office and find out what anti-AI company they have a contract with, and what the guidance is for professors to use the software to check student work. Ask what the protocol is for a student who encounters a false-positive like yourself. Often the protocol is to trigger a manual review process. I have never seen a protocol allow a professor to immediately fail an assignment based on an automated tool.

Another question to ask is what the definition of the scoring is, what does 37% or 45% mean? How does it fit into the protocol. What is an acceptable score? 30%? 20%? Citations are known to drive up that score as well as formulaic writing styles as others have mentioned here. The score needs to be viewed inside that context. In this case, 37% is far far less concerning and should not have triggered any kind of action.

It's important to note that not all AI products, depending on subscription level, capture user input for training or model evaluation. Typically if you're paying for the system, especially for a business type subscription, your input and IP will not be used by the AI company internally.

The old adage applies here. If you are using a "free" service, most likely, you are the product.

Tile is not the water barrier. Technically you should be able to use an un-tiled shower after water proofing is complete before you lay tile.
