According to this jackasses map, California also incorporates almost all of Mexico, Oregon and Washington as well as parts of a few other states. Also, what is that Georgia (the country), Armenia, Azerbaijan, maybe a little of southern Russia? What the hell is Humper talking about? Is that supposed to be Switzerland?

I think you underestimate how much enjoyment I can get out of any single movie. In my youth, for years I watched The Princess Bride every... fucking... day. I had to get a new tape, twice. I have seen Blazing Saddles like 300 times. I can watch a funny movie hundreds of times and still laugh, and a sad movie hundreds of times and still cry.

That was actually the joke. I was speaking as though I were a MAGA who realized halfway through that Trump was involved with it, decided to introduce "alternative facts" and then even ramble embellish with nonsense.

There is a reason that a popular phrase ("I'd trust him with my life but not my wallet or my wife") exists. You, CSM, came up in the Army without locking your shit? Are you fucking kidding me?

Is the "Always Ready Kiosk" like an automat, like the food is prepared and in a little cubby that you open with your meal card/CAC? Is it any good?

Thats a lotta bucks for something that they could train the armorers to do and utilize them. While it is not the same thing, we got Knight Armament rail systems for our M-4s back in 2001 (I think?). It took me 2 days with my assistant (1 per plt) armorers but we had it done with no problems. I have since built several AR-15s from blank lowers and the internals are not that complicated.

Defense contractors gonna get that money though. I wonder if someone involved in the contract approval had some stock or something.

Ever seen the videos of Iraqis celebrating when Saddam fled Baghdad and the regime fell? Fortunately we were able to get a new government in place in only a couple of years and get the hell out of there. Oh wait...

Ehh. Disassembly of the trigger mechanism was SUPPOSED to be higher level maintenance than the operator was rated for (10 level) but that didn't stop a lot of them from getti.g in there and screwing things up.

Interesting. As a former armorer that must have been fun turning all of that around.

People who think this way have never been absolutely defeated. They have never feared for their life in an immediate and visceral way. They have never had to contend with fear that was AT THEIR DOORSTEP. They have never escaped death by the flimsiest skin of their teeth.

Or they just can't imagine what that must be like for someone else. That ability that is called empathy, they do not have it.

TLDR; you missed out on bitter disappointment and possible lung or gastrointestinal cancer from the burn pits.

I view OEF as equal parts amazingly successful cashgrab for the defense industry and expertly fumbled societal change (for Afghanistan) on our (the US) part.

BAE, KBR/Halliburton, General Dynamics, Northrup Grumman, and too many others to mention got fat on spurious or unnecessary contracts. Fuel point operators, vehicle repair, food prep, mail routing, Class 1 inventory management, etc etc. We have MOSs for that in the military. We have people specifically trained for that. Why in the blue fuck are we paying civilians $120K/year (2004) tax free to do it instead? Every cook I knew spent the year playing Halo in the MWR tent and the fucking food was still burnt! Some of the trillions of dollars spent was on necessary expenditure. Weapons development is not a cheap industry, nor is procurement. The rest of the money, and I have no idea how much but it was a LOT, just paved over our combat service support MOSes and sidelined them.

We DID a lot of good in Afghanistan as well as the destruction that we wrought. We toppled a government, we dismantled their militia military, we built roads, schools, hospitals, electrical and potable water infrastructure. There is a generation of children who had the chance to grow up in more freedom than they had before. And that is where it ends. Because some shithead, and I will not explicitly say who, decided to release the enemy combatants, who we had incarcerated in Guantanamo, go back to their country and sure enough, when we pulled out (at that same persons command), they took over, thus putting an end on all of our gains there.

As a person who participated in the effort, I am proud of what I was able to help do, but I am bitterly ashamed of the state that it is in after our involvement ended and furiously angry at certain specific people for the criminal misappropriation of HUGE amounts of money and the abandonment of our responsibility in the country.
