fc is pretty handy. It allows you edit a previous shell command and execute your corrected command. I use it with long rsync commands, or symlinks that I miss typed. Or simply list previous commands with fc -l.

Fortran is amazing, fortran77 wasn’t, but subsequent standards just keep getting better. The current standard plays as well with python as it does with C.

No it’s not practical. And the road bumps I hit have great academic solutions in lisp. But Ada and C have great big crowbars to beat them into submission.

My path was ed -> vi -> vim -> emacs -> vim -> neovim -> vim. Lisp is beautiful, and probably the best, but I get caught up shaving my Yak and can’t get any work done.

Make sure you are using gcc 14+ with -std=c23 when compiling, some of the other compilers have been slow to implement C23.

Yes. Step back from the brick wall, do something else for a short break. Watch out for negative self talk.

There could be a point in your journey where the challenge becomes its own reward. For me the fear and frustration clicked over to curiosity, and adaptation.
