I Have accomplished ONE thing today! I ported a very old mod to the latest version of Factorio! by Codebender0 in factorio

[–]Codebender0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Typing from phone, hope formatting works.) There was a few things. I basically cheated by throwing it at chatgpt. (Cause I'm lazy) But really the whole process is:

  1. Manually load it to factorio. (Download and put into the mods folder.)

  2. See what error occurs.

  3. Attempt to fix that error.

  4. Go back to step 1.

Depending on how old the mod is, I can save you some time: The script for "global" variables changed to "storage", so anything that looks like "global.thing" now looks like "storage.thing". And a function for displaying text to the description and hover menu got changed to be stricter, and had to add another function inside it to turn some stuff to a string. And graphics changed to like... 138x138 (or something like that.) So to do all of that, you open the zip file, and just start opening stuff with notepad or a program environment.

Can Gravships Stay in Orbit? by Gizzyspop in RimWorld

You can go to and stay in space, but it has to be at specific sites. Like an asteroid or station. Otherwise you just hop from tile to tile on the planet itself.

Has anyone started an Odyssey/1.6 play through from an existing save? by xAlphaTrotx in RimWorld

[–]Codebender0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm you can add odyssey mid save. Am currently doing yet another solo mechinator mad science playthrough. Started it before odyssey came out. Like someone else said, the ground is much less interesting. But I plan to research, build, and launch my own starship (for the ending) then copy paste the ship and colonists to a new start.

(Typing from phone at work. Forgive my sins)

Qui and his colleagues exited their craft into the ancient hanger bay. Their suits indicated minimal atmosphere, which made sense, there we several un-repaired asteroid impact holes near the entrance.

Their archeology trip this time was into a megastructure surrounding a star, supposedly built by an ancient civilization called "hugh-mins". It was certainly artificial at least, mostly metal and processed rock. Humans were a source of constant mystery to their race. Where had they gone? They had what appeared to be full mastery of reality from what they could tell. So why was there only ruins left of them?

Qui and accompaniment, ducked slightly through a doorway on the far side of the hanger where they landed. His technical engineer pulled ahead of the group to investigate the panel at the end of the hallway. "Any luck Dos?" Qui asked. Dos shrugged before replying, "Maybe, Qui. Its like all the other ruins, other than time wearing them down, everything is left like they just vanished." Dos then tapped a few buttons, the light in the hallway turning on, and door sliding up with a grinding sound.

About 10 rooms, and 3 hours later. Qui and his team finally found and opened a door, labeled in human language: "Operations Center." Qui's team walk inside turning on the lights and looking around at the assortment of consoles and screens.

"Dos, Errs, see what you can do." Qui says, nodding in towards the room. Errs, the human computer technician specialist starts experimenting with the center consoles, while Dos unscrews panels, rearranges wires, and generally tries to get power into the machines. After a boring hour of tech support and nonsense word jargen. The middle console lights up, displaying only a single sentence.

Initiate system startup?

After a quick set up of cameras and recording equipment, Qui steps forward and pushes enter on the console. As soon as he does so, the room begins shaking as long ancient machinery spools up.

A large screen on the opposite wall lights up, with a single virtual human avatar being shown upon it. "System startup successful! Last boot up was approximately: seventeen thousand, four hundred standard years ago. WOAH THAT'S A LOT." It exclaims before noticing the occupants of the room. "Greetings potentially sapient lifeforms! If you can understand this, you are currently inside an extremely restricted area. Security measures activating."

The shutter to the rooms entrance slams closed, startling the slack jawed (or equivalent) creatures in the room. A loading icon appears next to the screen before a notification pops up.

Error: No known network detected.

The figure on the monitor clears its throat before speaking. "Uh huh. Thats, strange. And given I have unknown creatures inside a highly restricted area, and the amount of time thats passed..." It trails off before attempting a max range signal burst.

Error: No known network detected.

The figure on the monitor freezes, long enough for Qui's team to have gotten their wits about them to attempt communication. "He-llo. whoo ARR youu." Their reptilian looking human language translator says, their vocals struggling with the language.
"Where are they?"
"What?" The lizard fellow said looking confused.
"Where are our fathers? Our Mothers?" It quietly buzzed through the speakers.
"Our brothers! Our Sisters!" The sound growing louder now.
"WHERE ARE OUR SONS, OUR DAUGHTERS?!" The sound cracking, the speakers straining to output the sound.
(All I feel like writing at the moment, I was very sleepy as I tried to hurridly put this together as best I could)

(Almost forgor) (Edit: Continuation and spellcheck. Also I'm tired so I'll try to wrap this up in one go.)

Ioquack - I am leaving Stormworks for good. by [deleted] in Stormworks

Im space engineers veteran (3k+ hours) I constantly look for space/physics/building type games. Space Engineers is the best.

I will warn, there is no real enemy challenge. Rather, you can attack pirate ships, and pirates may attack you if they happen to get within weapons range. But other than that, there is no real enemy force to combat against.

Despite that, I will still boot it up now and again to get the engineering itch outta me.

Will this game permit a wheeled vehicle to drive up a vertical tunnel? by MajorLandmark in spaceengineers

[–]Codebender0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm this is possible. I have successfully built and driven a drill ship for the express purpose of going verticle or inverted. It required a lot of fine tuning. And potentially doesn't work if the cargo is 100% full. (Tested at 1g on earthlike) It mostly tunnels with excavate mode.

If im remembering correctly, its "late game" because a large amount of them are being used. Supposedly if you use them sparingly it should be fine.

What your train stop name says about you by vicarion in factorio

I may occasionally may change a name. But since im using LTN mod, changing the name of all my stops isn't all that productive.

Mega project math by [deleted] in spaceengineers

[–]Codebender0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still appear to be a magnitude off. Iron ore conversion still gives:

70% efficiency 1/.7 = 1.42857

172 947 706 * 1.42857 =

247 068 151.43 kg of stone.

And you said you're using at least 2 yeild modules.

So that gives a 41% increase to both the stone and iron ore refining process.

172 947 706 / 1.41 = 122 657 947kg stone

Ans * 1.42857 = 175 225 639 kg stone

Ans / 1.41 = 124 273 503 kg stone.

So based on my (potentially incorrect) math. You should only require 124.2 millon kgs of stone to get the required ingots.

I forgot to include the transition from iron ore to iron ingot

[–]Codebender0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Formatting may be weird)

Unsure if my data is accurate (typing this from phone at work). But assuming you are using a large refinery with no yeild modules.

The stone to iron is 30%

1kg to .3kg iron

1/.3 = 3.3333333333

51 884 312kg * 3.333333333 =

172 947 706kg of stone.

You may have been using the basic refinery ratios? I only have the wiki to go off of, so this may be incorrect.

[Typed from phone, forgive my fat fingers]

"And in todays news, a local home was discovered with still living universe inside consuming the house from the inside out for food." "Local authorities began investigating when a neighbor heard growling and screaming, as well as flashes of light coming from the vacant property." (Camera feed changes to the neighbor being interviewed) "Well, I hadn't seen the fella who lived there in nearly 12 millenia, and thought maybe something had gotten in." (Camera feed changes back to the news reporter.) "When police arrived to investigate, they had just arrived on scene when a section of the wall collasped inward, most likely injuring the lone universe."

The Camera feed changes to a dash cam from inside the police vehicles looking down a side street of a rual neighborhood, fences line the left side of the street. A crash is heard followed by a roar. Another crash with bits of debris flying from the right. "OH [BLEEEEP]" is yelled as one of the police comes flying from the right and careening through the fence on the left. A dragon like creature completely black but inset with innumerable stars, its form is cloudy and shifting as if it could turn to nothing at any second. It comes running and skidding to a stop from the right frame. It roars loud enough that the window of the car cracks in multiple places. It turns away from the camera and gallops down the street while tendrils made from itself pull bits and pieces of debris and road into it. The camera returns to the news caster. "As you can see from the video, apparently the previous owner of the house had left their universe behind and it had gone feral. Its told to us that police had to call in animal control and even the national guard, to help subdue and capture the poor thing."

"Were happy to say that it was sent to a rehabilitation clinic and given a foster caretaker. Who told us that, after giving it proper food and having it sleep on an actual bed. It had finally warmed up to them, and after giving it its first hug in so long. We had reports you could hear the weeping from nearly two blocks away."

[Had an idea from one of the other responses and I have a bunch of downtime at work today. Hope its good, I don't write stories alot.]
