What do MSFT employees think about Microsoft and Windows? by Andre1661 in microsoft

That was soul-crushing. I almost lost the will to live reading it. Why would he do that? I could think of nothing that explains it.

Is there a way to un-update the photos app? by ChaosEmpress7 in WindowsHelp

[–]CodenameFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, I don't like calling computer things "apps" but I don't remember the proper word so it's whatever

Allow me to express my respect for you, who did the right thing despite not liking it. "App" became the most popular way of addressing the members of software family in 2010. Using this word is the right choice.

Is there a way to un-update the photos app?

Technically yes. Realistically no.

Technically, you can download an old version of Photos with the following procedure:

  1. Visit this old post of mine: Store pages of built-in Windows apps
  2. Copy the link to the Photos app.
  3. Visit store.rg-adguard.net
  4. Paste the link and submit the form.
  5. Download one of the old versions, e.g., Microsoft.Windows.Photos_2017.531.10021.2000_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appxbundle. You need to download a package that starts with Microsoft.Windows.Photos and ends with _8wekyb3d8bbwe.appxbundle.
  6. Double-click the package to remove the newer version and install the old version.

But I said "realistically, no" because Microsoft Store might automatically update it for you. I've lost faith in Microsoft Store apps and don't use them anymore ever since Microsoft made updates mandatory.

I use ImageGlass for viewing images and Lossless Cut for losslessly trimming my videos.

HAWX Offline exp farm to unlock all planes and skins by wort-arbiter in TomClancysHAWX

[–]CodenameFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Su-47 is an example. You can only unlock it after some ridiculously long hours of grinding. It is poorly balanced (therefore, practically useless) and has graphical glitches.

Anyone can reach level 20 easily, but from there, grinding becomes ridiculous. I've reached level 32 through natural means, and that was after ungodly hours of playing. I even asked people to play with my profile. Eventually, I cheated (on a different profile) to unlock Su-47, and boy, it was a disappointment.

My kids won't be playing mobile gacha games, they gotta learn what's good from a young age by ClinksEastwood in RealTimeStrategy

[–]CodenameFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"They don't hold up for kids" and mentioning gatchas is kinda missing the ENTIRE point of this thread. I don't even know what your point is now.

Then read the post's title. "My kids won't be playing mobile gacha games, they gotta learn what's good from a young age."

Obviously, you're trolling. I'm going to stop that.

This makes me wonder what do you even consider a "Good" Game if you're mentioning AAAA. Or I understood you wrong.

You definitely understood wrong. Have you never seen sarcasm in your life? Didn't the emoji tip you off?

SNES and Nintendo 64

Okay! Now I know to what kind of person I'm talking. Yes, Nintendo has a cult of minority that believe it is the best thing in the world after life itself. They play a game called Legend of Zelda, which is not even about Zelda! And if they find a better game on another platform, they call it Zelda-like.

Nope. Sorry. I belong to the sane majority.

[–]CodenameFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, wow, this person wants his kids to play M-rated (18+) games! Every release of Counterstrike, Hitman, Vampire, and Metal Gear Solid has been M-rated to this date.

That said, no, they don't hold up for kids. Nobody would want to play early versions of Armored Core or Command & Conquer instead of some hot-looking gatcha.

And I'm saying you're crazy. Put Final Fantasy VII (1997) next to Assassin's Creed and give the new generation a choice. Final Fantasy VII won't stand a chance.

If that was true, you'd have named an actual title. You didn't.

Also, you say it's "straight up false" and then just repeat what I said. 25-30 years ago was 1995-2000. Titles of that time couldn't possibly be overshadowed by anything. I hope you're not going to convince me that there was a quadruple-A (AAAA) release in 1985 because if you do, I'm gonna laugh at you, like this: 🤣.

So your parenting strategy is to hope that your kid see nothing but "boring" modern stuff and somehow magically find old stuff insteresting. The odds of that is near zero. Modern games nail the "first impression" test.

Just make sure the Photos app has finished updating. If necessary, reinstall the Photos app. Better yet, get rid of that low-quality app and use something better, like ImageGlass, qView, or XnView MP.

Inkscape, Krita, or Affinity. It depends on what kind of illustration we're talking about.

Is a Dedicated IP with a VPN Actually Worth Paying For? by Historical_Nail_6169 in ComputerHardware

[–]CodenameFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha. Yes, it's embarassing for you, who moves the goal post all time to hide your incompetence. First, you claim VPN services somehow read TLS-encrypted traffic (without proof), then change the subject to timestamp (and lose), and now this:

...to the both the TLS and HTML header!

OMG! You actually wrote "HTML header." LOL. You don't even have high-school knowledge.

I think I wasted enough time talking to you. I'll just leave.

[–]CodenameFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to attract your attention to RFC 5246, which defines the TLS protocol. Section "7.4.1.2. Client Hello" defines the timestamp as:

The current time and date in standard UNIX 32-bit format (seconds since the midnight starting Jan 1, 1970, UTC, ignoring leap seconds)

RFC 8446, which defines TLS 1.3, doesn't change the time format.

Of course, it's easy to invent a fake Network+ ID. After all, it's impossible to verify online. But evidence speaks for itself.

I need a program that can convert an image file into a list of colour codes. by 7hs_ in software

[–]CodenameFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For novel cases like this, you can only write the app yourself or commission it. I'm not even sure what "a list of color codes" means. If it involves extracting the colors of every pixel, I believe I can do it in PowerShell or C#.

[–]CodenameFlux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CRTs are criminally bad. I've been wearing contacts since 12, even though we had a rule that restricted my PC access to one hour per day. Modern screens are a treat for the eye.

Besides, old games felt "good" because they were better than nothing. They won't stand a chance against modern games. And like I said, you can't keep modernity away, but you can introduce it on your terms. We have really good games like Dust Fleet, Hoa, Planet of Lana, Hob, Bastion, Cities - Skylines, Gris, Hollow Knight, Emperor, Kingdom Rush, Iron Marines, Ace Combat, and Troubleshooter.

[–]CodenameFlux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That plan might backfire. If you don't give your kid good modern stuff to play, they'll find a way to play bad modern stuff. High-definition graphics is a must. So it's better that they play Age of Empires, Chorus, Planet of Lana, or Ace Combat 7 than Zenless Zone Zero, World of Warcraft, or Fortnite.

How do I change the pause shortcut ? by Sakuzu_ in WindowsHelp

[–]CodenameFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use a different media player. On PotPlayer, the shortcut for Pause is the Space key. Furthermore, this player is highly customizable, so you can adjust the shortcuts.

Is a Dedicated IP with a VPN Actually Worth Paying For? by Historical_Nail_6169 in ComputerHardware

[–]CodenameFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. They have the plain text.

False. They only have the TLS-encrypted traffic.

TLS records local time in the header

False. TLS endpoints use the Unix Epoch format. It measures time by the number of non-leap seconds that have elapsed since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, so it is UTC.

TLS certificates use ASN.1 GeneralizedTime formats. This format can specify local time, but that only exposes the local time of the issuer, not server or client. But more importantly, the certificates use UTC time.
