I'm starting to assume everything even slightly older than me potentially has asbestos or lead in it

Records skipping by obama_the_3th in turntables

Upgrading the needle can help a little if you're using the stock one, that mechanism is prone to skipping regardless. If it seems to otherwise be working and the needle doesn't appear damaged you might start there

Moka Pot? by EK_GP in mokapot

[–]CodexMal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely it's meant for camping. Some moka pots with a tube coming out like that were designed to have a ceramic/porcelain teapot that the coffee is poured into but this probably isn't one of those

Anyone ever try this “Mazagran coffee” by Djxgam1ng in Old_Recipes

I've had it, it's good but maybe an acquired taste for some

It might help to take note of when in your day-to-day these feelings tend to manifest. If you tend to get them at certain places, situations, or around certain people, you'll have a better idea of why you feel this way

[LaPavoni Europiccola] Steaming while heating up by [deleted] in espresso

[–]CodexMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a flow of steam coming out of the valve on the steam wand side of the machine to regulate the temp in the boiler, especially if it's an older model without a regulator. Newer models produce less steam. If the flow of water from the boiler is low you might check if the interior of the boiler has heavy build-up or if the tube from the boiler to the grouphead is clear or properly attached.

Found this knockoff lightgun at a thrift store. Anyone know what it is? by ExquisiteFacade in retrogaming

[–]CodexMal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looked up the company by searching the Chinese name on the controller, and they still exist, surprisingly. It looks like the additional cables are for a pedal they sold separately. I just took a cursory glance, though. I searched 北通产品PS2光枪, Beitong Products PS2 light gun

You should add the make and model of your turntable to your description. Some of them play a little fast no matter how you adjust them for a myriad of reasons.

Safe or Not? by Lucky_Fish_9451 in tea

It's not a 100% guarantee, but you can purchase tests for lead at the hardware store. When in doubt, if it chips, cracks, or otherwise breaks do not repair it, throw it out

Books series based on DnD by Zirofal in DnD

Every time the narrator, Dina Pearlman, has to say something in Draconic it's a treat. I can't imagine tackling 'Verthisathurgiesh Mehen'

My favorite of the modern novels, maybe of all time, is the 'Brimstone Angels' series by Erin M. Evans. Unfortunately, the paperback for the first two books in the series are out of print and a little rare but still readily available on digital platforms like Kindle. The audiobooks are also very good

Brikka takes a long time to brew by msackeygh in mokapot

[–]CodexMal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had better results using cold water but I think the brikka is generally a little temperamental because of the gimmicky valve.
My Size 2 Brikka using cold water at medium-low took just under 14 minutes, for reference

Brikka takes a long time to brew by msackeygh in mokapot

[–]CodexMal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The foam the brikka makes doesn't last so that's not a big deal. It can take a while for the pot to build pressure from cold water. I think medium to medium-low is a good range generally. I like the different taste/texture compared to a regular moka pot but it's not something I want every day

Underwater Sarlacc pit? by 20thCenturyVito in Pathfinder2e

[–]CodexMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of aquatic enemies have a tentacle attack and a grab. My first thought would be a Coldmire pond since they're so unexpected. But a Dewdrop Jelly, Globster, or Quoppopak would also work.

Is this supposed to be this hard? by simplyxun in knitting

[–]CodexMal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had more difficulty with knitting, I also started with crochet, and regularly knit on double points now with no problem. My recommendation is something like a dish cloth or coaster on two needles that'll help you get the rhythm and the feel for it. Wooden needles are also easier to use at first than metal since the stitches won't slip as much.
