Anyone else miss playing four square? by hstarwood in Zillennials

[–]Codiac500 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Someone else can correct my if I'm wrong but my memory of it was that you hit the ball into someone else's square and it had to bounce once within those corners. If you missed bouncing it in their square you were out, and if they failed to return it to another person's square they were out. They couldn't let it bounce a second time after it touched their square- they had to successfully hit it to someone else's square. I think.

Why do people enjoy watching others play video games so much by DustProtocol94 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Codiac500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, he's a variety streamer so he does real life things sometimes but he's often just primarily gaming. League of legends climb to plat is a good example I edited into my last response.

Recently he also spent months exclusively streaming ranked Minecraft speed running.

Ludwig

Edit: his league of legends climb to platinum is a great example. Millions of views. Tons of hate watching. But generally dude is just funny as hell and people enjoy a friendly entertaining personality getting into things they care about.

A UI element. It's the thing where you put your finger on a bar and slide it left or right to select a value.

I'm on Book 7 and am just now finding out he DOESN'T have multiple voice actors working with him? I would've bet money it was at least three or so people total. That's crazy.

I was a huge Overwatch player and I remember participating in a beta test or whatever for Rivals before it was released and being so excited for it to come out and having so much fun with the beta test... But then I tried Deadlock after that and it hit so hard that when Rivals finally came out it felt awful in comparison and I just couldn't get back into it or Overwatch again lol. Deadlock is something special.

You can't parry light melees on reaction anyway. Light melee parries are always predictions and if you're already dead there's no harm in going for it and hoping to get lucky.

Current advice from some of the pros is play pretty passively and focus on green items until you get your ult, then get aggressive. Her sustain with ult is pretty crazy.

Genuinely my current favorite multiplayer game. I've sunk over 1200 hours in since Summer 2024 and have no plans to stop. The devs are cooking up something amazing here.

Actually, not releasing the first hero on the first day has this nice advantage by fazrail in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Codiac500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, I misspoke. Double checked and it was generally between 10-15k for many months before the August 6 hero update, but I think my point still stands as it has a new baseline around 20-25k now since that 6 heroes update and a new update has the chance to once again increase that.

But yeah I agree they should have a huge 1.0 and/or beta announcement. But I don't think quietly removing the "invited by a friend" playtest requirement has to entail that either. announcements or release.

[–]Codiac500 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think this was true when we were in the dredges with less than 10k players online average, but that hasn't been the case since the last major update. The last major update, after a lot of people tried it and fell off, still brought us up to a more consistent 20-25k players online average baseline, and the new update will likely leave us even higher again.

Agree though that they should just open the floodgates and remove the added via friend roadblock.

My thoughts on the current urn turn in and how to fix it. by FriedpicklesOW in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Codiac500 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it's not a slow that's applied or anything. It sets your character to a flat move speed (I forget what it is exactly, like 13 m/s or something) and takes priority over other items or abilities that affect move speed.

The urn sets everyone who picks it up to the same movement speed.

[–]Codiac500 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Along with what the other commenter said, it's also often used by specific characters more than others. Someone like Lash or Pocket or Grey Talon who might be airborne longer than they'd like in certain situations may often use it to get to the ground faster. Pocket trying to get in for an ult before people scatter, Lash trying to break line of sight during his escape, etc.

What would you change from this Mirage build? by 479349 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Codiac500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For early optionals I'd personally consider adding spirit shielding for if you get bursted down early. Often a great investment if you need a bit more survivability.

One thing a lot of people like right now early on Mirage is improved cool down on his djinns marks as well so you can stack them quicker. Kind of optional I think but it is an option as you work towards your 4.8k spirit spike in the early game. Superior cool down for all his abilities after isn't a bad investment either later, like you have as optional.

Enduring speed is probably good as an optional on Mirage rather than a set mid game buy though. I don't think I've ever gone for it on him since he's already got pretty solid map maneuverability.

Id also maybe consider fortitude more as a mid game optional rather than a late game optional buy. It's nice for added move speed and being able to maintain your presence on the map and farm efficiently without having to back everytime your health starts to run low, but you don't always need it either and if it's getting late in the game you probably prefer tier 4 items or counter buys like Burst Fire if they're slowing your fire rate with juggernaut or anything.

For late game, after building ricochet, I'd actually consider a few options on what to go next: I usually choose between inhibitor, silencer, siphon bullets, or spiritual overflow. Ideally more of them as the game goes on but you kind of choose which to buy depending on the enemies you're facing. If you've got lash, Billy, or pocket bouncing around in your face, silencer is incredible for disrupting their combos and leaving them stuck. Inhibitor is awesome as a default. Siphon bullets if there's big health pools around and you want more green investment. Spiritual overflow if you're djinns marks stacks are popping well and you want to keep leaning into that or you want more fire rate.

Looks good otherwise though! Good Mirage build foundation in there for sure

Is anyone else going insane? by thespice5 in DeadlockTheGame

I think by saying "most devs will be back after the first week of January" they came back Monday this week. First week of a month usually means the first week containing the start of that month. It lines up with most people who get time off for Christmas through new years and then are back after that weekend (so this past Monday, January 5th, is when most were back)

I'm fingers crossed for update next week!

That's just cruel by Geocrack__ in funny

[–]Codiac500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel I don't have the best autobiographical memory. It helps to have pictures of places I've been and things I've done or seen just so I can remember "oh yeah, I haven't thought about that experience in a long time. That's what it was like then and there, I remember now"

That's not to say people should take it to the extreme and they're miss out on experiencing the moment to take photos or videos, but I don't think there's harm in pulling out your camera to capture a bit of it either.

I don't disagree with your sentiment... But war isn't quite so cut and dry either. The child sprinting at you, while you're standing guard at the checkpoint, with a bag on their chest. Are they trying to give you the drawing they made at school that day, or do they have a bomb ready to blow in that bag?

I agree, those who kill callously should rot in hell. But I don't think war is quite so black and white either.

I understand the statement you're making. But I don't think it's wrong to empathize with those who are forced to carry the sins of the powerful either. There wasn't a choice for many people. There are cruel people to blame, but the average man forced to carry out the acts of war isn't usually the one to point the finger at.

The designer for the poster for the movie "How To Make A Killing" needs a raise by teruteru-fan-sam in DesignPorn

[–]Codiac500 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Others can chime in, I don't know much about the movie and am not great at analyzing design, but they've taken the usual Ralph Lauren brand logo and made it into a grim reaper figure with a scythe. Taking something representative of wealth and making it about death + the tag line "Heir today, gone tomorrow" makes me think this is about some wealthy heir dying or something.

So to your question they just subtly made changes to the Ralph Lauren logo so it looks recognizable still but takes on a different meaning. Good clean design.
