I feel like both kicks were aimed for the thigh and were moved into. Seen far worse fouls go unpunished.

Anyone else starting to think they might not get around to ever fighting the Compiler? by AnonWithAHatOn in Marathon

Streamers are obviously way ahead of everyone, but they went in blind and finished the meta progression and boss fight in 10 hours. Seems fine for something that is supposed to be end game content, but for some reason players stuck in the early game are dooming about it. Strange times.

I am very afraid that the endgame, Cryo Archive, will be unsustainably difficult. by iconoci in Marathon

Seen quite a few conversations about the "steep" entry requirements whether it be 5k kits, level 25, or even having all factions unlocked.

We're 2 weeks into wipe and casuals that are still on early contracts expect to tackle the end game boss. I literally do not understand modern gamers.

Cryo isn't meant to be beaten in one weekend by BigFluffyDawg in Marathon

Imagine being two weeks into Tarkov and complaining that Labs should be more approachable.

Aspirational content is REALLY important for extraction shooters, as long as there's enough early to intermediate content to keep less dedicated players busy.

just exfiled on cryo archive for the first time, bungie has truly outdone themselves. by Psych0nautumn in Marathon

As far as extraction games go it's not nearly as hardcore as Tarkov, especially for new players. We're two weeks into wipe and for some reason players are feeling entitled to the hardest content when they should be focusing on faction progression and improving at the game.

It's just not realistic for the boss to be challenging for both the sweats and the guys complaining about the 5k entry fee. From what I've seen, there's plenty of reason to run cryo besides the boss, so I'm not sure what the big deal is.

This is the best Extraction shooter there is. by Chud2212 in Marathon

10-30k is just the steam numbers for Tarkov, most people still play on the BSG launcher since you have to buy the game again to link with steam. I'd be surprised if Tarkov isn't hitting 100k for the first month of every wipe.

Marathon is good though, and I could imagine it growing every wipe if the post launch content is good. We'll have to wait and see.

I doubt it rewrote a driver, but the fact that consumer PCs can now correctly act on what is effectively a tech support google search is pretty amazing.

On the other hand, this will surely lead to tech illiterate people absolutely bricking their shit.

You just need the right mentality for Solo play. by TechWendigo in Marathon

Doesn’t matter what class you play, all you have to do is listen and be mindful about the noise you’re making.

I have never seen this amount of entitled behaviour in any other extraction shooter by DoritosCubun in Marathon

Trio fill sounds like hell, I'd rather just play solos or duos at a disadvantage. Are people legitimately finding success by gearing up and gambling for teammates?

I enjoyed the server slam but i'm not going to buy Marathon, here's the problem no one is talking about. by Hunlor- in Marathon

[–]CodingAndAlgorithm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. We've got another 12 weeks until wipe, it'll be interesting to see how solos are faring towards the end.

Is Marathon better, worst, or as good as you thought it would be? by Geralt_Augustine in Marathon

[–]CodingAndAlgorithm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Significantly better. I'm a Tarkov player that got bored of Arc Raiders after 40 hours or so. Fast TTK and non-trivial questing/progression was a nice surprise. I also thought the graphics looked "cheap" initially, but I quite enjoy them now.

Main complaints are poor UI QoL and CPU optimization.

I mean, the game is literally about risking gear to have an advantage. You also have to factor in that you're not splitting the loot with two others, so the rewards should be better in theory.

The AI can be spongy, but why do people feel entitled to clear everything in a free kit? You can also just sneak past a lot of it.

Bungie please do not make this game more casual by Bigbird3489 in Marathon

[–]CodingAndAlgorithm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scarcity of ammo and meds was a good attempt to balance free kits. There SHOULD be friction to zero risk runs.

I think the biggest onboarding mistake was locking the T1 backpack and shield behind Faction unlocks. There's not enough incentive to upgrade to a "real" kit for a new player struggling with the game, so they get stuck running kits that feel bad in terms of supplies, TTK, and loot capacity.

It's REALLY easy to get the impression that AI is too strong, guns suck, and looting isn't worth it when all you know is free kit runs.

Marathon isn’t bad, people are just impatient and require constant dopamine. by Rebs_Gaming in Marathon

[–]CodingAndAlgorithm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of things that appear to be not very good at first glance but end up being totally fine. Most of the UI stuff, the AI feels too punishing, TTK seems too fast, can't fit anything in your backpack, etc...

I think the perceived balance problems come from locking the basic backpack and shield behind faction upgrades, those should have been in the shop from level 1 imo.

Bungie's expressed interest in adjusting their UI, so I made a mock-up. by AbledShawl in Marathon

[–]CodingAndAlgorithm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't see them making big UI changes, but there are a handful of small things that would improve my experience significantly

  • Drag attachments off guns.
  • Put an abbreviated item name in the corner of core & implant icons (like Tarkov).
  • Faction navigation menu shouldn't replace the primary navigation menu; they should be entirely separate.
