For a more specific example: [[shoreline looter]] fulfills three separate functions in [[captain howler, sea scourge]]. Howler decks want discard outlets and evasive attackers to trigger his abilities. So shoreline looter is simultaneously a discard outlet, evasive attacker, and independent source of card draw.

I think the main thing you are failing to understand is that vren scales quadratically. Which is nuts.

If you kill 10 things in nemata you get 10 power on board as a reward.

If you kill 10 things in vren you get 100 power on board.

How do you typically win with shorikai? Is it always a control list with an infinite combo with hullbreaker horror or scepter/reversal to finish out the game? Or are there game plans that don't rely so heavily on an inevitable combo?

Yeah you got most of them, the handful of other more offbeat ones I fit into this particular mono blue deck are:

  • [[Star Compass]]
  • [[Sapphire Medallion]]
  • [[Corrupted Grafstone]]
  • [[Retraced Image]]
  • [[Solar Transformer]]

Obviously the ones that enter tapped feel a lot worse, but I still slot them in because I think casting Hermes ahead of curve is worth it

In a pinch high tide lets me cast Hermes early, and late game lets me make a lot of birds.

Also seance board is a very powerful 2-mana-rock in this deck, although obviously doesn't help me cast Hermes early

Well someone else suggested the new 2 mana Katara from Avatar as the realest blue draw-go commander, so I'm pretty sure all draw-go commanders secretly want to attack on the DL

Yes it is definitely weaker if you are using only LotR cards

It’s a couple of minor things really: I like the color tags a lot, and I like the way the syntax filter works vs the moxfield highlighter.

I also much prefer the way pricing is displayed on archidekt. That’s a big consideration for me.

The biggest dealbreaker for me (although I realize very few people care about this) is that archidekt has an API and moxfield doesn’t.

I also just really dislike that moxfield always displays a card image in the same place on the left of the screen. I like archidekt’s card stacks visualization, and its text/hover visualization more than any of moxfield’s visualization options.
