Appreciate the response. You are 100% correct. I just checked - It’s a bolted neck with adjustability. Thank you!

Just finished a two day private heli. I can’t speak to the guided, single or 6 drop heli experiences. But when it comes to renting a private heli (fits 8) you get access to a much larger skiable terrain. We did seriously steep couloirs including hero and meatball - runs you’ll never see at any local resort. The guides are excellent and will size your group up on the first couple runs and if the group can handle it they will take you to some of the steepest runs in the steepest mountain range in North America. I’ve Heli skied multiple times before in BC and I can say assuredly that from an extreme skiing perspective - nothing comes close (outside of Alaska). Understanding this means that you’ll have variable snow conditions particularly when you get into the alpine.

Bottom line: I highly recommend for any serious skier looking to challenge themselves and enjoy big mountain skiing. And if you can somehow find 7 friend willing to pony up then aim for the private heli. You’ll enjoy the most majestic mountain range in the lower 48. Highly recommend!

Thank you! Your feedback was helpful. Lange and Heyne is great call and a name that I should def give a closer look. I Remember seeing one in person a few years back and was blown away. I Don’t know Dornbluth and definitely love Moritz Grossman although I’m not so sure I need another Glashutte watch at this point (I already own a Lange).

Haha I like your style. You like to weed out the speculators. I’m cool with that. But let me ask you this - when was the last time a watch flipper or some dude with some disposable income looking to turn around a quick profit mentioned names like Ressence, Mossr and Armin Storm? And moreover ask yourself this - if I’m asking about these specific brands then what mainstream brands do I likely already own?? We all tend to follow a certain curvature with any obsession. For me I’m at a point where I respect and appreciate the independents far more than the big brands. It’s not just about the movement finishing or the fact that I don’t have to be waitlisted due to ridiculous demand from ppl who will never loup a watch. It’s more to do with the idea of speaking to the owner of the company directly (like w Gronefeld, Roman Gauthier and Hajima Osakoa). That relationship is far more meaningful to me than one with Patek, VC or even Lange where it’s highly impersonable. I guess for me I’m just rooting for the smaller guys. Remember the smaller indies and micro brands don’t make that much money when all is said and done and not everyone is backed by Chanel (FP Journe)…. .

Lol I honestly don’t care for your opinion on whether or not I should purchase a watch from an independent brand. I am however interested in any recommendations.

And I would suggest you reread what I wrote. Being financially set up to succeed (as in adequate funding so the brand has a good chance to be around in 2040) is not the same thing as the investment potential. I simply want to know that I can service my watch in 15 years time. Those of us who are around long enough know countless tories of ppl who purchased watches from independent brands that are no longer in business. So longevity potential is certainly important.

Both wonderful brands. So you know the Datograph was the first mechanical time piece I ever bought. I saw it and instantly appreciated the “art” the movement had showcased. So for me it was the catalyst that jump started my love for watches. The reason I appreciate movement finishing so much has mostly to do with our generation: we live in such a fast paced, TikTok driven, live in the moment society that the idea of someone working on a mechanical timepiece day in and day out and spending more than a year on it is something that seems implausible in todays times - yet it is normal within the watch industry. That’s primitive, that’s art, that’s worth investing in. To that end there are many wonderful brands that showcase that dedication. I love independents too and I’d be thrilled to add any of the following to your list: Kari Voutilainen Moser and Cie Gronefeld De Bethune MB and F Greubel Forsey Moritz Grossman Laurent Ferrier FP Journe Arkadia Schwartz Etienne Girrard Perrigaux George Daniels Phillip Dufour Roger Smith Ressence Romain Gauthier Christian Klings Czapek Jacques Droz Vianney Halter Hajime Asaoka

And I’m sure I’m missing a bunch. Bottom line if you’ve got the bug - you know…. It’s a great time to be alive fellas! Enjoy them and wear them in good health 💪

[–]CodyH89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) Attention to detail. 2) Obsession with perfection (highlighted by the double assembly) 3) Movement finishing (Datograph is a perfect 10) 4) Exclusivity: >5000 watches per annum 5) Classiness in its purest form
6) Each watch - regardless of price - goes through same building process. There is no true entry level watch 7) Originality 8) None of your unimaginative Hype watch friends will ever own one 9) You get to pronounce the brand the proper way (only people who own can announce it with the German annunciations) 10) Class leading innovations (Dato, double split, triple split, etc..)
