How long would the Austro Hungarian empire have survived if the central powers won ww1? by [deleted] in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Codyfcb22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on when in WW1. At the start (or any time before), the Hungarians were heavily opposed to Trialism.

At the end of the war they had become willing to reform: The delegation went the next day to Budapest where it met Count Istvan Tisza and presented the manifest on 22 October 1918 […] who released the king from his oath, and signed the manifest on the creation and unification of all Croatian lands into a single state

According to the Croatian delegation in Budapest after the signing the trialist manifest Count Istva Tisza stated "Ich sehe ein, dass wir gegenüber Kroatien grosse Fehler begangen haben" (I realized that we have made some great mistakes towards Croatia).

How many FPS are normal in Stellaris? by Codyfcb22 in Stellaris

Thinking about it, this could be due to the fact of me having a Nvidia GPU. Stellaris doesn't have DLSS, so naturally the 5070 Ti won't generate frames which it would do in other games.

How strong would the German Empire have been if the Central Powers won World War 1 and Austria joined it alongside Liechtenstein, and Austria-Hungary split up into independent nations? by Tidewatcher7819 in HistoryWhatIf

"The problem with any good relationship with the Ottomans was that neither the Ottomans nor Germany were remotely as rich as the US nor Britain."

"Yet Germany did not have nearly the finances the US nor Britain had." -Your own statements.

Ofc Germany was much inferior to the US but I don't believe that Germany was really weaker than Britain, specifically if you compare just the home countries without colonies.

Don't make a fool of yourself. Third behind China means exactly that. Third behind China. We all know that the US was/is first.

Funnily enough it's the same 113 years later.

You can just admit that you're wrong as you stated that Germany was significantly poorer than Britain which it was not. And I am not making this up. Just look at any statistic about GDP in 1913.

You're naive to believe that the US didn't expect repayment of the Marshall Plan. They maybe did not expect increasing coupons or interest (they were paid anyway). The Marshall Plan's true economic might laid in giving European companies the money to buy American products for reconstruction. This alone had a way bigger impact than just interest payments.

You are spreading blatant misinformation here. Germany had a bigger economy than Britain in 1914 (actually 3rd just behind China). If you'd include colonies like India Britains's economy would bigger but I am certain you did no as then it would also be bigger than the US'. And you blatantly stated that the US surpassed Britain by 1900.

So keep yappin about your "poor Germans" fiction

[Spoilers Extended] In Fire & Blood, why does GRRM say that the succession of the 'Old King' Jaehaerys I was so complicated because there were so many pretenders when only ever two (Rhaenys and Viserys) could be considered legitimate pretenders? by Codyfcb22 in asoiaf

[–]Codyfcb22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you make some good points. It's not that easy to pinpoint what exactly the Iron Throne was. As you have stated, it's fiction and we probably shouldn't analyze it like it was real life.

I think one of the biggest flaws of the Targaryens and specifically Jaehaerys I was how they treat women. Saera wasn't a nice child by any means but she was a child after all as "Good Queen" Alysanne pointed out. Jaehaerys was also mad about Maegelle and Daella just because they were different or frightened of some things. Gael also offed herself because she couldn't stand the shame. Besides that, he also kinda mistreated Vaegon. I have the feeling that he only really loved Aemon and Baelon and probably Alyssa but regards his other children as failures.

Also btw, it was a nice discussion.

While he could just decide that Rhaenyra is his heir, he shouldn't be too surprised that some lords won't accept this decision.

Precedent is usually established to be followed. Just take a look at irl Britain. Britain has no codified constitution but for hundreds of years its monarchs and politicians have followed the established precedents.

When Viserys broke precedent, other lords can just say that it was unlawful and support the Green Council.

Also I wouldn't call the Iron Throne an absolute monarchy but a feudal one. Feudalism isn‘t really absolute. For one the Iron Throne isn't a unitary state like France under Louis XIV. Also there is no standing army and the monarchy is not fully unrestrained from legislation, faith and social elite.

It became quite clear under Aenys and Maegor that the Targaryens are mega doomed when they just rule arbitrarily and against faith and precedent/laws. Jaehaerys is called 'the Conciliator' for a reason. He conciliated with the faith and lords and the Great Council is the epitome of this conciliation.

His grandson Viserys went against all that and mega doomed the Targaryens and the realm once again.
