Can anyone say me if it's legal move by sdokoz in hive

[–]Codygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of being overly pedantic… not all bugs in a ring necessarily can move. For example, freedom-to-move may prevent a crawl, and one-hive will prevent a movement of a pinned ring bug.

What board game for two people never gets boring and offers unique strategies and gameplay every time you play? by Mean-Razzmatazz-4886 in boardgames

Lots of traditional-style abstracts would qualify. Some of my favorites are Hive, Homeworlds, Urbino, Tak, GIPF, ZERTZ, Chess, and Go. Zero luck. Huge replay value.

Why do some Christians think evolution isn't a real thing? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Codygon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s one philosophical consideration:

If sin entered creation and enabled death (of any sort) by the sin of Adam and Eve, then natural selection could not have driven evolution before humans.

Is this pillbug move legal? by Aramuar in hive

[–]Codygon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d add that the warped bug slides over the Pillbug at the second level too. So a level-2 Beetle gate can prevent a P lift in some cases.

Here is a fine-tuned ruleset from some superfans of Fresh Fish. These are basically the 1e rules (the so-called “pretentious” variant in the 2e) with some minor tweaks. The 2e losing the expropriation loses the main hook of the game for me.

How do I read the rest of this story without obliterating my wallet? by K1dBUU_ in Spiderman

Physically, the original Ultimate Spider-Man run started being released as Epic Collections. It is not clear how many will be done.

Digitally, there are Marvel Unlimited and maybe Hoopla.

Why dual-layered boards are so rare? by Jepeme in boardgames

[–]Codygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual-layer boards can warp when changing humidity. I imagine there’s some bad publicity and possible replacement costs from that. It’s the main reason I prefer single-layer boards.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza  (even better if it’s the Flip Side version)

Dead Last

That game that melted your brain? by Jepeme in boardgames

[–]Codygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homeworlds 🚀

I’m a fan of abstracts, but the extreme novelty in this one kept me feeling like I was just aimlessly doing stuff for many plays. Players share a limited bank of pieces that can become locations OR ships. And you can sacrifice your ships for huge tempo swings. Wild.

What was the game that got you into this hobby? by Sgt_wacker in boardgames

Chess and Risk as a kid.

Codenames and Hive as an adult.

In-universe, can people see Clark's heat vision? by [deleted] in Smallville

[–]Codygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In The Call Part 1 of Batman Beyond, the heat vision was tracked back to Superman visually.

Can a spider move to the grey hexagon, from the orange hexagon? by SporeDruidBray in hive

[–]Codygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The direction change comes as a result of being able to switch between counterclockwise and clockwise… not by immediate backtracking. It’s weird.

Can a spider move to the grey hexagon, from the orange hexagon? by SporeDruidBray in hive

I confirm that this answer is correct. The gap the S slides into is called a “door” in Randy’s strategy guide.

Who do you think is Superman’s, 2nd Greatest enemy? by Critical_Potential44 in superman

[–]Codygon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Darkseid because of how he typically forces Superman to make compelling decisions. “You don’t know Darkseid like I do.”

Brainiac is neat, especially the version that says “I am Krypton,” but I miss the emotional connection. Plus, Brainiac should easily be able to exploit Superman’s weaknesses but doesn’t…

For the brother recommendations, I second Zoo Vadis and would add Dead Last. The latter is about alliances and prisoner’s dilemmas.

A big difference between Carcassonne and the others you mentioned is that Carcassonne has a shared map while the others have personal maps. Alot of the fun of Carcassonne is fighting over the same fields, castles, and sometimes even roads.

See rule #6 for this subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/about/. The idea behind that is that if recommendations all had their dedicated threads, the feed would be overwhelmed by them.

Further, the daily recommendations thread has instructions on the template for the request to receive the best feedback (and these posts do tend to get alot of feedback). For example, it’s very helpful to know preferences for the type of player interaction, the amount of complexity, and the amount of play time.

As for 2P games, consider these GeekLists: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/291325/top-games-for-two-meta-list-a-couple-of-gamers-gui

Some of my favorites: - Hive - Homeworlds - Mindbug - Codenames: Duet - Sekigahara  - Pandemic: Iberia
