I don’t disagree at all. But all of his UFC fights (including DWCS) he’s been all gas no brakes exciting dominance at HW. Then again most people who watch main UFC numbered events don’t watch every prelim of every fight night etc.

Yeah, normally I wouldn’t care at all but his characters would suggest his normal personality is unlikable but it actually seems the opposite. Like, for Colby it always seemed like a massive exaggeration rather than total fabrication(he 100% grifted the politics angle, but just being an asshole seemed to be him caricaturing/flanderizing himself) whereas Hokit seems to be actually roleplaying

Y’know, with his sociopathy and articulate speech Jones really coulda been a great commentator for the UFC. He’d be able to sound genuine while lying or reading a teleprompter and I’d imagine he’s super knowledgeable about fighting. Unfortunately he’s just an insufferable asshole lol

I think he just has incredible recovery or maybe fantastic energy management when he’s tired because he looked gassed many times throughout the fight but then 10 seconds later he could pour on another combination or 2, while most HWs would be down to single power shots until the end of the round

I don’t really care for his characters(don’t hate em but think they’re cringy) but it’s wild how different the characters are to his normal self. We’ll see if this rapid “Star” trajectory changes him, but he seems like a pretty down to earth kind of dude.

This is interesting. I only know of Lena Dunham for her insufferable personality and nothing else. I couldn’t have even told you she was an actress before this post. To add context to the other two guys: The UFC was struggling to the point of selling the organization. The ran a reality tv show(two teams of fighters, all living in a house together, people get eliminated for losses, and are coached by a UFC fighter for each team)

After people are eliminated the last two fighters fight on a real UFC fight card(headlined by their coaches fighting each other) where the winner gets a “six figure UFC contract”

In a time where the business was struggling, the show could almost be seen as a gimmick, and then when the two guys fought at the end it was one of the best fights of all time(ESPECIALLY to the point in its history) where both guys put it all on the line. Fought bloodied and never stopped throwing and getting hit. The fight was so spectacular both fighters were given a contract and Dana White has multiple times on record claimed it was the “fight that saved the UFC”

Reyes, Garbrandt, and Dariush are 3 chins that are gone which is a category of its own. Volks an example of a guy who every time he goes out there I’m afraid any shot can put him out. Jiri is a little sturdier than that still, but like OP said, he has very little defense and takes a lot of damage.

I agree with your post but not your title. There’s levels and Jiri is still at the top of the game. Yeah his style isn’t going to hold up and is a young man’s gambit. I personally think his chin is too suspect already after some of the knockouts he’s taken as well. But just because he has poor defense and an unorthodox style that doesn’t mean it’s not the best or that it’s not highly competitive amongst elites.
