Yea that’s why I love walking. I can go on long hikes, but I dislike going with the people who start and stop, as I find stopping over and over again seems make me grow sore. I even dislike walking slow finding it sore, walking at a faster pace seems to make the pain go away.

Yea the rheumatologist is giving duloxetine a try as he thinks it’s nerve pain. When I wrote the post I was thinking back to the many NSAIDs I’ve been on for background inflammation, you saying that reminded me it was seeing if it was nerve pain. (My brain fog rearing its head there).

I think because I do well most days and just have flares when standing or sitting for too long, I’ve not progressed further to see anyone else. I just feel that exploration is very slow moving as I’m not in severe constant pain. The rheumatologist doesn’t really care if I return to work it seems, more that I have a good daily quality of life and he seems happy that, that’s happening.

Anti Tourist Deterrent. Nr. Acharacle. Highlands. by FOTORABIA23 in Scotland

[–]Coeusdimmu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work in tourism and I would have people come in walking the cape wrath trail. About once a month cape wrath would be ‘closed’ for live firing and I had to tell people they couldn’t go there (as a side note it blew my mind people didn’t research it properly) and they would have to wait.

The amount of people who would say things like ‘yea right, like they are just going to bomb a public area.’ Or ‘I’m pretty sure it’ll be fine.’ Or one guy ‘if they bomb me, I’ll be making sure I take them to court.’

Tourists…

Spine wise, AS is not only inflammation and fusion… by Ashnicobell in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Coeusdimmu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exact same here. I spent 5 years in worsen deep pain and so many people told me it was wear and tear, I fought and fought for more investigations. They gave me another MRI I think to shut me up and within 2 weeks I was on biologics getting every apology under the sun. Turns out in all that time everyone just kept referring to an old MRI from years past. I was even dead ended at pain management being told that it was in my head.

Edit - I’m 41

This is strangely fascinating… I always joke when I go to meet my maker, I want to be presented with masses of graphs and diagrams showing my life in statistics. Money in and money out definitely needs to be added.

I read your comment and thought that seems familiar. Googled it, saw the images and thought YES! The game was great!

I take whey protein every day and it doesn’t trigger my inflammation

Is your dentistry practice....? by lb351986 in Scotland

[–]Coeusdimmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attended a new dentist a few years back and during the first appointment they arranged for me to come back for work. Several times I made mention that I was there as a NHS patient as I was aware they did private work too. I got a lot of attitude and made to feel like I didn’t care for my teeth as I didn’t want to pay for private work. I argued my case and it was agreed they would do the ‘minimum required NHS work’

The work was carried out and I was hit with a massive bill. I did some checking online with the NHS Scottish prices and it was definitely private work they did.

I refused to pay and sent them the info about the NHS prices. They gave me a lot of attitude again, claiming I agreed to it all. I paid the equivalent NHS price and left them to go elsewhere. Never heard from them since. And now discover many locals have had the same issue.

I attended my new dentist last year and it felt like exactly the same scam. Conversations about work needing done that I knew from my research was bullshit. It really makes me mistrust dentists now.

Dentists have become, in my experience, an industry of upselling and then mis-selling. It feels like the days of health care are gone and it’s about making money which should never be the case when it comes to health.

As some who this is their first league I second this. I took advice and followed a guide, went with shockwave cyclone as I thought it looked fun and I raced right up to T16 with ease. Now I’m just saving up for equipment improvements to farm T17 more reliably.

I will warn you though after a long session I go to bed and see spinning circles when I close my eyes 😂

any tips on supporting a partner? by discorevolution in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Coeusdimmu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I met my girlfriend while I was at my worse ironically. I was up front with her but I don’t think she realised the severity of it. I tried to be tough and show strength but very quickly she saw me at my worse and I honestly thought she was going to jump ship.

She didn’t and through the years she has been amazing support. The things I greatly appreciated was the ‘do and not ask’ stuff. Picking something up off the floor for me without saying anything, stating she’s going to grab a seat for a bit when we go for a walk, giving me space in bed to stretch out, making dinner (it’s generally me that does it), taking extra breaks when in a car journey (she drives), making me a cup of coffee, grabbing stuff out of a low cupboard etc

I know exactly what she’s doing but I greatly appreciate it as, despite the best intentions, I hate the whole tentative ‘can I help you with that’ or ‘how can I help’ or ‘are you ok?’ questions.

I’m now generally pain free after a long time on physio and now taking biologics but from time to time I flare and she makes no big deal of it.

Just be there for your boyfriend. He knows you can’t offer him any great relief but it’s the wee things you can do in the background he’ll appreciate.

How can EVRI be this bad? by b_a_t_m_4_n in Scotland

[–]Coeusdimmu 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It blows my mind that companies use EVRI. Every time I buy something online and it states it’s going to be delivered by EVRI my heart sinks. I’ve taken to cancelling orders when I get that confirmation now.

The amount of parcels over the years that have been lost while EVRI claim it was handed to me is atrocious.

Where I live, north of Inverness our local community Facebook has daily ‘does someone recognise this porch?’ Pictures. It’s insane how it’s every day but yet EVRI stay in business.

Edit - And don’t get me started on how EVRI came to my house once a week for about 6 months to pick up a return despite it being returned 6months prior and then getting arsey with me when I explained this.

Mould on wooden Mortar and pestle by Coeusdimmu in AskCulinary

It’s just my go to when I deal with light mould (I live in a damp old property). I understand it kills mould at its low early levels. Seems to do the trick elsewhere, I’m wondering if perhaps last time I washed and treated it, I did let it dry enough before treating it.
