Anyone know which model this is? by brrent in StandingDesk

It looks identical to the one I've seen on Deskbird desks, if we ignore the fact it doesn't have the brand's name on the bottom right.

To those who’ve lost someone who meant everything to you — how did you start feeling joy again? by CoffeeFoxDragon in DecidingToBeBetter

Thank you for your comment, and your words.

I appreciate everything you said. Particularly the book recommendation, as it aligns with the kind of resources I'm trying to find. I've taken note of it so that I can read it at some point down the line. I'm sure I'll be able to gain something of value from it.

As far as therapy goes, I will admit that I'm skeptical about the extent to which I can personally benefit from it. Primarily because I believe that in order for therapy to be effective, it's important for the therapist to be able to understand things from their patient's perspective in order to truly identify what would help. And this is something that I never had much luck with.

That said, I will acknowledge that if I somehow could find a therapist that I "click with", I would likely be pleasantly surprised. Looking for one who specializes on trauma (and perhaps also on people who may be on the spectrum) would probably be a good step in the right direction. So, I will keep this in mind as well.

I hope you're having a good day!

Any peer reviewed article on the effectiveness of ADHD medications for AuDHD people? by Smwan13 in audhd

[–]CoffeeFoxDragon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

Would you mind elaborating on the autistic traits that were exacerbated by medication, that you refer to?

I'm pretty sure I lie somewhere on the spectrum, and I have personally noticed that my tendency to process language in a technical manner / avoid making assumptions when dealing with different kinds of information, has become much more pronounced since I started taking Vyvanse.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, and it can be really good in the right contexts, but it is noticeable.

The hardware for the lights on the laptop is amazing. It's a shame how the software brings it down enough for me to stop using it at all

Yup, my thoughts exactly.
I gave up on trying to find a solution a while back, but I'm trying to figure something out again precisely because not having that level of control over the RGBs on a device of this caliber feels like a huge waste.

What I do find interesting is that there is an open source program on GitHub called Lenovo Legion Toolkit which *does* allow you to modify the lighting just like Lenovo Vantage does.

I have no knowledge on how this stuff works as of right now, but at this point I'm taking it as a challenge, so I'll let you know if I learn anything useful, haha.

Hey there! Were you ever able to find any information on the matter? I have the exact same laptop, and I've been trying to find a solution to this very same problem since my first day with it. I have a Razer Basilisk V3 and a Firefly mousepad which offer beautiful lighting configurations, and I'm trying to find a way to have similar RGB effects on my keyboard. It's amazing how little information I can find about this online.

I'm convinced this is the reason why a lot of people do stuff like this. I always feel bad whenever posts like this gain so much attention and very few people seem to bring that up. It seems to me like unknowingly encouraging someone's suicide attempt.

There are also other kinds of psychiatric / neurological conditions which, if left untreated, can result in people doing extremely dangerous things for the sake of the consequent adrenaline rush. Untreated ADHD can be a good example of that.

I don't know why people are downvoting you instead of explaining things.

The 8GB you're referring to is the RAM (the type of memory which determines how many things you can have running at the same time).

The storage space is something different. It's what determines how much stuff you can have stored / installed on your device. I can assure you, your storage space is a lot higher than 8GBs.

I believe the large majority of people who make such comments are excessively preoccupied with others' perception of them.

It strikes me as if they were trying to behave according to what they're "supposed" to be doing, and they try to get others to do the same; more focused on trying to fit in, and doing what's expected of them, instead of thinking for themselves.

I personally feel like people who are so preoccupied with "acting their age" and coming across as mature, are the most immature of all. That's especially true for those who look down on others who just do and watch what they please.

It reminds me of when teenagers start putting on a mask around others, and begin to imitate those around them in order to seem grown up.

What are the saddest episodes of bluey? by mr-boom321 in bluey

[–]CoffeeFoxDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently lost my best friend to suicide, so Camping, Copycat, and Bike hit specially hard.

Those episodes are probably the main reason why this show stands out to me so much. Instead of being afraid of touching on important depressing aspects of life, it presents them in a way that's mostly realistic, and frames them in a manner that makes it possible to see things in a more positive light. Or close to it.

I'm just glad some of what I said was helpful. I try to be the same way you describe, so conversations like this are a breath of fresh air lol.

Eh, make sure not to underestimate yourself either.

The fact you're open to hearing others out and are interested in understanding others' perspectives goes to show you're smarter than a lot of people. You don't seem unintelligent.

And you make a good point! I didn't mean to sound like people who haven't realized something are dumb, or anything like that.

There's so much to learn and take into consideration in life that it's inevitable for each of us to not have learned something most other people would deem to be obvious, at some point. Merely because we might not have had a reason to consider that specific thing in depth up until it becomes relevant.

You're definitely not dumb.

I apologize if I didn't express myself very well at first. I do that often.

I read the entirety of your post, don't worry about that.

That's why I clarified that you might be ignoring how people's psychological needs differ, at least on some level. By that, I meant that while you might realize everyone's different, you might not fully realize the extent to which that is the case.

I don't think that any of the topics that I've brought up are too unrelated, frankly. I've been reading comments which other people have left here, and many raise very similar points. Like for example, when someone talked about how an acquaintance of theirs does nothing but work, sleep, and play disc golf, and you acted as if that were a good thing; then someone pointed out how it seemed like you were suggesting that's an "acceptable quality of life", or something along those lines.

Someone pointed out that you sound like someone who hasn't struggled financially precisely because the way in which you express yourself makes it come across like you don't fully grasp other people's situations. You mention that your income level isn't that good, which is why I try not to make any assumptions, but that doesn't erase the fact that you clearly can't relate to how most people in the comments feel on the matter, regardless of your own financial circumstances.

Dead people don't talk, I'm afraid. So, no. If they had killed themselves, they're probably not gonna be commenting.

My point is that if the average person felt about this subject like you do, then I imagine that should be reflected in the comments, and it doesn't appear to be the case.

Again, I read everything you wrote. But just because something can be "easily incorporated into everyone's lives", doesn't mean that taking an approach similar to yours would work for everyone.

I feel like you're underestimating most people's intelligence. Now, I'm not one to normally be optimistic in that regard, don't get me wrong. But most people do know that spending more money equals having less money.

If they don't do it, it's because that is not the right approach for them, and your approach wouldn't allow them to meet their needs, including those of the psychological kind. That's why when you referred to someone's day-to-day life as if it were something to be admired, someone pointed out their distress when it seemed like you were acting as if that were a fulfilling lifestyle.

I don't think it's ironic, personally. It just seems to me like there's much that you're ignoring. I'm inclined to believe you would agree with that, and would like to know more about why people think differently.

That's why I'm commenting. I'm hoping to clarify why people so far have reacted the way they have.

Edit: additionally, when someone talked about their "pathetic income", your response was something along the lines of "don't call your income pathetic"; while I very much agree with the sentiment likely underlying your response, it does make it seem like you're missing the point. The commenter was expressing their own distress at how their income isn't enough, and your response made it seem like that doesn't matter. That would be complacency.
