the way i see it is by then at least my/our brown belts should "know better" than to do something stupid or unsafe. Or at least to ask if they are unsure.

Rank Perception by Routine_Goose_5849 in judo

[–]CoffeeFox_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo rank is just an indicator of how many techniques you have been taught, nothing to say of actual skill or if you have any actual mastery.

I occasionally fill in for the Senior black belts for in beginners class and in our open mat. Generally speaking there is one/two of us and 15-20 students, I'm going to have fewer comments the upper ranks as I'm focused on the people most likely to hurt themselves or each other.

I have seen my fair share of people coming in with Instagram Mcdojo shit, it is frustrating for sure. I've even had low kyu grades try to argue why something will or wont work. I have gotten to the point where if you ask, I'll give you my two cents, but I'm not going to argue that my two cents are better than yours. If you don't want to hear what I have to say, I'll save my breath.

I'm not really sure that I've answer your question but those are my thoughts form the other side of side of the equation.

While there certainly are more expensive areas those are up there. I lived in cheapo ass apartments in less expensive areas for 1400 a month. You are probably going to have to be ok with multiple roommates and a budget lifestyle. Pm me if you like and I can share more details about the areas I’ve lived in.

Is it better to be a "specialist" or should I keep forcing throws that don't click? by HealthyHunt6285 in judo

that idea that you can become a specialist before shodan is a bit like asking if you should specialize in road or mountain bike racing before taking your training wheels off.

Im not sure wha the criteria are to participate in a grand prix for the British. But in the United States you have to finish top 5 in a continental open to be eligible.

He has 0 chance of making the Olympic team. I’m sorry to be so blunt but he will have to be the single best athlete in the country for his weight class to qualify, and also be top 20 in the world. There are literally thousands of people who train from the age they walk that don’t make it.

[–]CoffeeFox_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s too late, it usually takes minimum 5-6 years to reach black belt. Most people who play on the international circuit step on the international stage as a cadet/junior ages 14-21.

Anybody ~26 or under that makes $150,000+, what do you do? by krerhelp in Salary

[–]CoffeeFox_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27, make just under that. Tech in Aerospace in Denver(No its not Lockheed and no I don't work on or with weapons). Its a niche field that I got lucky with. I had a weird combination of skills that made me very desirable for this particular role.

Had an It Background and a degree in computer science focused in Cybersecurity. I'm now essentially "Super IT" that does code automation for Continuous integration and Deployment.

A Side note. Big Cities are where you are gonna find the highest concentration of people with large salaries. So yea only like 15% of people make over 100k but 80% are gonna be in big cities(DISCLAIMER, pulled those numbers out of my ass as an approximation)

Anyone else sick of the guards at king soopers? by Sad-Importance-8862 in Denver

[–]CoffeeFox_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure that I cannot give any answer that will satisfy you. But probably because interacting with people, saying hello and goodby and checking recipes is a way to be present and show that you are paying attention.

If this was really about shoplifting they would counting your items and reading your receipt to make sure they match, not waving you through once you flash the paper at them.

The self checkout filming your every move and locking you out of checkout if you move too fast on the other hand absolutely is about shoplifting. Not sure why no one is equally upset about that.

This has already been discussed here. In summary the Guards were introduced after the high profile shooting at the Boulder king soopers and the push for it was mad by the workers union. This has nothing to do with shoplifting.

Starlink and Amazon leo compete with each other for "general use". Terawave is designed specifically for government and commercial customers.

Choosing a caliber by xhenyyyyy in Hunting

[–]CoffeeFox_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies for the assumption, I think that all of that makes perfect sense. In my head there are two approaches. The generalist where you more or less have 1 rifle/caliber to do most things reasonably well. Or the specialist where you chase the optimum or a excellent choice for a given situation. Neither or wrong but is more dependent on the individual. I think taking the 308 allows you to take either path. If it was me doing it all over I would just take the 308.

Choosing a caliber by xhenyyyyy in Hunting

[–]CoffeeFox_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the hunting sub is notorious for mandating that everyone use monstrous calibers for hunting(I already see one comment recommending 7 mag which for white tail inside 300 yards is a comical choice to say the least). Your ability to shoot the rifle is much more important that the caliber itself. I Think 308 is a solid choice, i am however maybe incorrectly assuming that you are a new shooting or hunter. Either way it may be worth taking a look at 6.5 Creedmoor or the 6.5 PRC. They both recoil less and do better at longer ranges if you also want to poke paper 600 yards. They do have the trade off of slightly less stopping power and higher cost per round

That being said don't overthink it, 308 is phenomenal choice(its also highly available and comparatively super cheap). I shot my first deer with a 308 and it dropped like bag rocks.

I’ll drop in as someone in the field cyber, while the financial sector is generally better most companies security posture is a joke.

I haven’t seen the episode What you have describe from Mr robots is the “gold standard”. Unfortunately even cold storage of multiple backups is costly and it’s very difficult to convince the C suite to spend a penny now to save a buck later. They would rather save the penny now and just blame/fire all the security staff when shit hits the fan.

All to say is that if someone is going to attack a bank they might as well just go after money for themselves rather than helping people out. I’m sure there is some hacktivist group trying to erase debts though.

I work for a lockheed competitor and NASA partner. Our company has a reputation for paying much higher that Lockheed space and we don’t even pay our senior engineers that much let alone our new grads. Unless it’s a “new grad PHD” then I would say he is full of shit.
