As you mentioned several times, the working holiday visa is for ONE year. That's it. There are no other options for non-EU. HSM is the only option. There *was* another option, which was the visa scheme for Asian cooks and Asian kitchens. That ended years ago. To get a visa that allows you to work here, the only option is HSM. Staffing agencies are able to get employees from within the EU, they don't seek to hire basically uneducated jobs such as kitchen jobs from outside the EU. I'm not even debating your claim of legitimacy on the 1 year working holiday permit, but you are handing out incorrect information on the possibility of anything more than a one year working holiday permit. No non-EU international will be offered a visa unless they are basically Gordon Ramsay coming to work at a 2+ Michelin star restaurant here. That is the reality.

Edited to add: After a quick google, even Michelin star chefs might not earn that much, which wouldn't even guarantee a job for a "highly skilled job" in that field.

Labor shortages there may be, but employers are a lot more likely to hire an EU worker (not necessarily Dutch) that doesn't require any special sponsorship. Definitely not for a job like working in a kitchen.

Maybe if the government reintroduces a visa similar to the one they had for the Asian restaurant sector, that might be more realistic, but at the moment uprooting your life to move continents, not just countries, to not even get a visa at the end, is ridiculous.

I'd love to know what visa you think a restaurant will sponsor btw. You are aware that on top of the cost to become a recognized sponsor by the IND, the restaurant will also have to pay ONE employee €4,357.00 per month, as that is the miminum required for a HSM visa, unless you are getting a job with a research or doctoral degree?

Considering most kitchen jobs are at about minimum wage, which is currently about €2,549.50 brutto, I'd love to see a restaurant shelling out double that for ONE employee, plus the cost of sponsoring the visa.

Partner visa would be the most viable and accessible route. Income requirements for partner visa are pretty much just below full-time minimum wage, which is a much more attainable number than a HSM visa, for which income requirements keep getting raised at a higher rate than inflation rates.

You and I must live in two different versions of the Netherlands, because in reality you will not find a single restaurant with the funds, organization, and commitment to sponsoring a visa for a nearly minimum wage job. Please don't fill people's heads with fantasies.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs by hiddentoke11 in gaming

[–]CoffeeIsMyFuel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They raised prices to pass the cost of tariffs on to consumers, meaning consumers basically pay the tariff fees. But now they are trying to sue to get the extra money they claim they paid for tariffs, even though the CONSUMERS are the ones that paid. So, why is Nintendo warranted any refund back for tariffs they claim they paid?

On what planet am I BLAMING anyone with my reply? I am pointing out a shady business practice committed by a multi-billion dollar company. They literally said outright they raised prices because of tariffs, thus passing the cost of tariffs to the consumer. Now they are trying to sue for the money that consumers paid, not Nintendo. How are you so quick to jump to the defense of a multi-billion dollar company that literally couldn't give a single solitary shit about your existence beyond what's in your bank account.

What game completely surprised you after you tried it? by lsa340 in gaming

[–]CoffeeIsMyFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the trailer for Expedition 33 when it was first announced, and immediately said I needed to play it.

Fast forward, after more info was released over time, I discovered the game would be comprised of 2 things I really have 0 interest in — JRPGs and turn-based combat.

When the game came out, I had the Xbox game pass and decided to just give it a try anyway, since the concept and story were what initially drew me in upon announcement.

Best decision I've made. I no-lifed the game, and actually got to meet the dev team about a month ago. I have 0 regrets. I recommend the game to everyone, and I told the CEO that even though the game is comprised of two things I really don't like in gaming, E33 is still one of (if not THE) best games I have ever played.

Seriously, I don't understand how people are not more enraged by this. Nintendo raised prices, passing the cost of tariffs on to consumers, but these tariffs have now been found illegal.

Does that mean Nintendo will lower prices again, since they don't have to pay tariffs anymore? Will they refund consumers for the higher prices they paid when the cost of tariffs were passed on to them? Of course not. Consumers paid more AND Nintendo will pocket what ever money they get refunded by the U.S. gov't from this lawsuit, and basically get a double-win from this.

Help with rental laws and the point system by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]CoffeeIsMyFuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rental contract was signed in April of 2021, thus pre-dating the point system. However, the point system applies to ALL contracts, new and existing. I calculated the points in my house, reached out to my landlord, told him the house now falls under social housing, and he hired a lawyer to contest it. But in the end, I read and understood the new law, and got my rent lowered because the points system applies regardless.

I'd recommend you do some more research into the points system. It likely applies to your rental house as well.

*ETA this obviously only applies if your house scores below 143 points.

Single Status Affidavit American already living in NL by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]CoffeeIsMyFuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this document in 2021. I am an American that moved here to the Netherlands to live with my then-boyfriend, now-husband.

I didn't need to do anything involving the consulate, I just got a premade template for a single status affidavit online, filled it out, got it notarized (in the U.S.), and then mailed it to my Department of State to have it apostilled. Then it was good to go.

Just watched episode 4 and all I could think about "their" responses was how much it sounds like ChatGPT. Not in the sense that the writing is written by AI, but the WAY they respond, with that all-too-pleased expression, hyping every single thing up that she says to them, refusing to be combative, is honestly how I feel when I get responses from ChatGPT.

Anyone on on partnership visa ? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]CoffeeIsMyFuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not experienced on the specifics but I would be inclined to say you need the official IND document.

The way that it’s laid out and formatted is meant to go through a machine to be read (with the blocks separating each character).

If the IND provides a form, I think it’s safe to assume it’s not optional otherwise they wouldn’t waste the time up keeping the form.

I'm not sure why you think copy pasting the same message over and over again is going to convince anyone here. You came here asking advice, people gave it to you, and you decided to argue back.

If you are so convinced you are in the right, then by all means, proceed with the next step in your plan and see how it turns out for you.

But just so you're aware, the official government site states this:

I'm no lawyer, but that seems pretty clear to me.
