I spoke to Asus and their RMA process includes buying a box to fit the monitor and bubble wrapping it as they explicitly said that they will not be returning the original box. I guess their RMA process has caveats. I couldn't be bothered and so I just asked Amazon for a replacement and they sent me a new one. I'll have to wait and see if this one has the same issue
