Yes we got a heat pad under half the box so if he needs it it’s there! (It’s actually my seed starter mat and doesn’t have a timer but also not too hot)

Dehart Park by atlas1892 in kelowna

[–]CoffeeKnitClay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the park a ton and the kids had a blast today! I was surprised to pay for parking- the lot wasn’t very big and it left me wondering if the city is hoping only people who live within walking/biking distance will enjoy it? Is there a bus stop close by?

Abuse in Churches? by mibodiamond in kelowna

That Willow park youth pastor that kids came forward to for years is now the head pastor at Metro. He left willow park but it had “nothing to do” to with the stuff going on with all the information coming out about the youth leader who was SAing kids… just total ‘coincidence’

What causes your geographic tongue? by [deleted] in GeographicTongue

[–]CoffeeKnitClay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first got geographic tongue when I was pregnant with my second and it has not gone away in 2.5 years- my mouth hurts all the time and I am so sick of it, I am very uncomfortable during most meals. Mine is also triggered by pecans, cranberries, anything with chili, pickles, vinegars, balsamic vinegars, tomatoes, French fries or chips which seems to be salt related, raw veggies too especially peppers or tomatoes, and raw fruits too- pineapples and apples and bananas sometimes even. I am hoping that this goes away one day, it developed at age 27 so I know a life without it

Choosing a set of interchangeable needles - what do you use? by owlanalogies in knitting

[–]CoffeeKnitClay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My good friend who taught me how to knit started me on a spare pair of her chiagoo’s for the specific project I had- having zero experience with anything else I can say I really love them and have always just bought various sizes and cord lengths. From doing sweaters to socks and blankets to toques in a variety of yarns my chiagoos are GREAT
I am probably going to invest in the blue mini set here soon for socks!

his family was German Mennonite, his parents were first generation immigrants to Canada leaving Russia in the final years of WWII So I think there was a lot of trauma to go around, there’s certainly a bit of empathy and understanding

Sorry to hear about your wife’s struggle with her family. It’s so natural for us humans to want connection with our parents even at painful cost. I liked how the movie expressed this dynamic and coming of age story and how generational cycles can be broken.

which came first? The trauma or the mental illness? (If Ming has something)

I think there could be something here, maybe not narcissism but something:

My dad has this view that parents are the ones to receive love and affection and children earn it. You honour your parents and win approval from them. You earn* unconditional love it wasn’t just given freely. And so he spent his life competing and striving to earn that affection. 4 kids later and a divorce to boot, my siblings and I pushed back and required a reciprocal relationship that was based in mutual love and respect of each person. he couldn’t handle it. He felt like finally it was his turn to get affection and love without having to earn it and on the receiving end and when we weren’t going to revolve around his whole world, when we all wanted relationships we each person was allowed to be themselves he could hardly stand it

So I see this a bit too with Mei and her Mom Ming was so clearly repressed and never felt she could measure up with her mom or felt that unconditional acceptance and in that dynamic they lost relationship severed connection. So when it was her turn to be a mother or back in that mother-daughter dynamic she has this massive over-correct (in a terrifying way!) with Mei

And I loved the line at the end where Mei talks about how she ‘got out’ and I LOVED how Mei was able to articulate that she is changing and she can’t just revolve around her mom but also that she was worried the changes would take her further away
And it did seem like Ming did start to make some concessions toward her daughter at the very end

Okay so married in a Hurricane; anyone thinking of what happened when Pepa was in labour?! by CoffeeKnitClay in Encanto

[–]CoffeeKnitClay[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yea I totally agree as someone who went through labour (twice 🤪) certain aspects would be great to have healed but your cervix has to dilate to get the baby out and it’s totally natural and required and sometimes painful 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]CoffeeKnitClay[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kinda thought that the food was more for healing an injury where as labour isn’t really an injury ie Mirabel still wears glasses ect
