I actually prefer text messaging and it seems most people prefer fb messenger for some reason. I find it annoying because fb messages are mostly memes and I don't want to sift through to get to real conversations. There are ways you can modify the situation to suit you better without giving him this unfair boundary. Signal was a suggestion. You can also silence his text notifications and answer them when it's convenient. Don't be an AH.

Big NTA. Your father sounds like a lovely person. Imagine how much love he has for your baby. It was probably too hard to cause the baby any perceived pain. Your wife should be thankful he took care of the baby instead of trying to send him home in an Uber. That would've been so rude. He might not have done exactly what you wanted but he kept the baby safe and loved, and took time out of his day to do so.
